😯 oh wow I remember these, well maybe not exactly this one but the ones from the 1990s, for sure. Back when I was living in a little city called easton pennsylvania and on the weekends, my friends and I would cruise up and down the strip and just talk on the cb all night long to a lot of other truckers or to other people. If we weren't talking to the truckers we would always keep our radio channel on 27, so we couldn't disturb other people that were talking about serious stuff. Anyway this is what we did on Friday and Saturday night from 8:00 p.m. that night until at least 5:00 in the morning. talking about great memories and fun times. I miss these Cobra cbs

It appears to me that CB radio is making a comeback. There sure are a lot more radios available out there. There is nothing like working another station through the atmospheric noise and flutter. Working SSB lower side of 38 late at night. It's a great hobby.

Well bought this radio. Pleased I did too. Great tx and Rx and controls and extras too. Clock and timer are just two. Selection of colour screens too. Overall a really nice radio. Well built radio although volume and on/off button could be better. No other concerns for me.

david dickson define work. Are you using the European frequencies? So long as there is a radio to receive your frequencies yes it would work. Typically the power that comes out of a CB radio is anywhere from 8 to 10 W of power.po

From what I see, Cobra doesn't make ssb radios anymore. I used to have a 142 and a 146. Loved them both. Lightening got the 142, diesel car antenna swr got the other

Vienneau Marcel cobr 29 has never been a ssb rig, am only. All they did was redesigned the 29 classic for a more modern look with some added function that I find useless.

Nemesio Morales Check your hot and ground wires and make sure it's plugged in good at the back of the cb. Sounds like you have a loose connection on either the the hot or ground wire

hey :) I don't know jack about CB's however my husband is an OTR driver and needs a new radio and I'm trying to grab him a new radio through the trucking companies catalog before his hometime. I hope you will help, I have 3 questions please. 1. Does the Cobra allow for military time on the clock function? 2. Which would you recommend : The Cobra 29 LX or the Uniden Bearcat 980SSB ? Verify that you have put the stud washers together properly. Firestik k4 or k4a package has a picture on the back showing where the washers should be. Don’t use no ground plain coax or antennas

I have never understood why Cobra doesn't have NB as selectable independent of the ANL. There are times when you get better audio from a weak station with the ANL turned off, but still have impulse interference going on, so you still need a noise blanker to deal with the impulse noise. You need to be able to switch the NB and ANL on and off independently. (sweep&click for more) Making NB available _only_ in conjunction with ANL makes no sense at all. And to think they still haven't learned that after all these years, and are doing it on their latest model. Sheesh!! Receiver is everything. That is the side of the radio _that you experience_. Most any radio will have adequate transmit audio, at least with the right microphone. The receiver is of utmost importance. Even though I was always a Cobra man when I was a "big time CBer", if I were comparing this radio to the Uniden Bearcat 880, I'd get the Bearcat for the very reason that it does not have this design flaw.

@JasonDolan I agree that FM is much more clear and just to add that mode along with using the same frequencies would not be that hard. But here it is in a nutshell. The US governing body for radio's and such, FCC, is a huge bureaucracy that it makes it impossible to make any kind of significant change unless you are a powerful lobby group that has political and monetary influence. This is how it is with all of our government.CB radio here in the US does not involve that type of organization.

I have the same problem. All I can do is try a cheap temporary antenna and see if it works that way. If so, then I will have to dig around to see if my coax is messed up somewhere or maybe not grounded. IDK.

Get a wilson 2000, 18 ft of coax, don't roll the coax cable excess up lay the excess side by side. Let a shop tune your antenna and properly tune your cb. It's well worth the cost.
