I have a near mint TRC-424 CB radio, got it in the original box. The chrome and faux-wood is looking sick. The sad thing is it suddenly started blowing fuses every time you turn it on. I had a look inside and couldn't see anything obvious wrong with it. Does this diode thing cause fuses to blow continually, or just no power at all? If you have any thoughts why my TRC-424 keeps blowing its fuse a second after it's powered up, please do let me know as I would love to fix it.

Honestly, except for a few very vocal folks, nobody cares what kinds of radios people use on their authorized bands as long as they don’t cause trouble. In bush Alaska (where I grew up), nobody cares about how radios are used at all. The technically illegal use of marine VHF and HAM radios for all sorts of things goes back a long ways over there because of poor communications infrastructure. Basically, if it’s not the air band or a commercially licensed channel, it’s practically fair game. To some extent, this is changing, but the FCC hasn’t gone through the trouble of slapping villagers and fishermen around for running illegal radios, and they are probably not about to start anytime soon. It’s a different place with a different culture and a different mindset from the norms of the rest of the nation.

I got one makes lot bad noise sometimes on picking up the sound of the button on key up Any help to stop that ?

How does adjusting the mic gain improve AM.

McKinley or Harrison? I don't need SSB, I do want WX I've been through 2 Uniden Bearcat 980ssb in the last month and I can no longer trust the reliability of that unit. I use my radio on the road for road information and weather information. If not the President models, what make/model do you recommend?

I love you guys!! Never leave! Do some basic setups that show people how to throw up a dipole antenna when needed for emergency use. Most have forgotten this basic setup.

I had one . Audio was weak out of the factory so I had mine adjusted. I loved this radio! It was stolen out of my car and I never replaced it. Wish I had.

Has a very similar feel to the Astatic D104 lollipop desk microphones. I wonder if it's possible to up/down buttons in it and upgrade the cord with additional wires.

Going on the rust and corrosion on the case, this has seen some water in it's time. The fact it still works shows there wasn't enough water......best use case for these was as wheel chocks.

i thinks it can be mod like de george 11. only need to do the same mod here.

I have almost bought every CB HAM transceivers that are out there on Amazon. The only radio that i did not buy is the CRE 8900 (DX10) it is a radio that costs about 229 euro. I rather save up more money to drop on a better quality product. No i don't like the CRE 8900 Radio but still thanks for sharing!

Awesome comparison! It has similar results to the tests I've done between a Uniden 980 Bearcat (Astatic noise canceling mike) and the President George with the Digimike.

Remove the foam from the stock will bring up your audio just fine.

I still have a CPI 300 with matching speaker / power supply, also the FC-70, 2 of the 3 meter version SWR meter 2 Talk Powers and 2 adaptors for the FC-70, Unfortunately the CP-300 is not operational, probably needs a recap. He Mentioned Tram, I owned both the Tram D201 and the CPI 300 in the late 70's still have the Tram as well. I remember the receive on the CPI-300 being really good but that for AM radio which is what most of us were talking back then the TRAM D201 was a real powerhouse on AM with loud clear modulation. Be nice to get that CPI going but I have since moved to the ham world.
