Five people. Joe Stiley, Kelly Duncan, Priscilla Tirado, Burt Hamilton and Nikki Felch. A sixth passenger, Arland Williams survived the crash but was trapped in the wreckage and later drowned before he could be rescued.

I remembered when this happened. I was in 7th grade. I remembered the accounts of heroism, and sacrifice. I still remember all these decades later.

Looking at the news clip, and the people at that time it’s amazing how heroic all of those people were, God bless their souls.

3:24 The guy jumping in just as the cold had the victim paralyzed was one of the bravest thing I had ever witnessed. I remember watching this in high school.

This was truly a Friday the 13th day. While the Air Florida plane was crashing, Metrorail derailed only a mile from the 14th Street bridge. I can't get over the irony from that day.

Oh jeeze I didn’t even know about the metrorail, imagine being an emergency responder on that day. Two giant tragedies in the middle of a Armageddon blizzard.

@@luvsilly604 killed I believe. I was home from school because of the storm. We lived in Fairfax, Virginia. I still remember watching this and, 4 years later, the Challenger explosion live on our black/white tv in our kitchen.

Dan Ratherbiased turned all news to crap. Maybe his dishonesty is why he looks and talks like he’s battling a stinky shart in his underwear.

Unbelievable that anyone thought that was a good day for flying. God bless the helicopter pilot who didn’t think it was a good day for a flying either but had no choice! RIP all those passengers and crew and commuters on the ground.

That scene was an Esther Shocker because I remember hearing and seeing about this on the news about 40 years ago when this airliner had taken off during a heavy blizzard, then crashing into the Potomac River just minutes after takeoff and I believe the aircraft had at least over 100 people on it, but only seven or less survivors within plucked out of the water, because I remember watching the original news footage of the daring rescues that these people had to do the save the people that were in the water that just came out of the aircraft after it crashed in sanked into the water.

Is there anyone reading these comments at this account because this was all over the television, not just local news, but worldwide television, because an airliner, which was bound for Florida, had taken off during a winter storm, then lost altitude, smashing into a bridge, then into the Potomac river nearby because the aircraft had nearly 100 people on board and many of them died but only a few survived because I remember seeing the original news footage of helicopters hoisting, a young woman out of the water and then I remember seeing a man dive into the icy cold water just a grab someone else out also because that footage was a true Esther Shocker there .
