CBS would air PSAs or a CBS Late Night slide during commercial breaks that local stations could fill with local ads.

It preceded you-know-what - but they didn't get the message, apparently.

1:02:15-1:02:45 As an elementary school kid, I was very pleased that WBBM-TV was being different from the other CBS stations at the time, saving their showings of the Price is Right until 4:00 in the afternoon. I'd get off of school at 3:00 and take the bus home, then I'd get home around 3:30 and I'd watch the Price is Right. Those were easy, nice times until they moved it to 10:00 in the morning. Then I'd wait for the Summer months to watch it.

For clarity… The original NBC Mystery Movie proved so popular that they split it into 2 nights in Fall 1972. The ever popular Sunday edition had Columbo/McCloud/McMillan & Wife and a new player in the rotation Hec Ramsey. The 2nd night ran on Wednesdays and completely different opening titles than the iconic Henry Mancini theme music with the man with the shadowy flashlight. This new Wednesday Mystery Movie had theme music by Quincy Jones and animated opening titles and, as you mentioned, featured this show, Banacek and Madigan. In season 2, the only show they kept was Banacek and added The Snoop Sisters, Faraday & Company and Tenafly. They also ditched the Quincy Jones theme and replaced it Mancini’s theme w/Shadow Flashlight Man. The original Wednesday Mystery Movie Season 1 opening is nowhere to be found but Season 2’s is lurking here on KZbin.

If you look at the description now, you'll find that being on Wednesday, this was indeed in rotation with _Banacek_ and _Madigan_ . (Ironically, the one that had the longest staying power was _Banacek_ .)

The Sunday Mystery Movie is actually the one that was added. Columbo, McMillan & Wife and McCloud all aired in Wednesday night the first season. When the decision was made to add more movies to the “mystery wheel”, the original shows were moved to a new Sunday slot, and the new shows took over the Wednesday edition.

Funny, on the Vlasic ad, if Harrington voiced Groucho, whom did Richard B. Shull voice?

@ I believe Richard B. Shull is the on-camera actor playing the storekeeper. Doug Preis also voiced the stork, but it sounds more like Harrington here.

@@andyrose5616 I believe the voice of the stork is Ron Masak (Sheriff Metzger on Murder She Wrote.)
