This was back in the days when you could do some repairs yourself by going to the salvage yard and getting the parts there and then the garage could do the rest of the job and it was a lot cheaper than but those days are gone.

Back then, ALL the car parts were made HERE IN THE USA and they were not digital so a husband, uncle cold fix car parts.... so sad how it is now

Because so much on cars was replaced by plastic. Lightened up the vehicle's weight and seemingly had advantages over metal---less costly and non corrosive. It's why these days some collisions have a distinctly different crunching sound caused by cracking plastic.

If you will allow me me to move in rent free for two months we could overlook the whole episode. I have my eye on that den,, do you have more than one bath room? My two Saint Bernards would fit nicely in the backyard. And I do prefer breakfast in bed. And the doctor says my foot fungus is only mildly contagious. Why soon you won’t even mind my snoring. Certainly a reasonable arrangement to compensate for that scratch on my car. Is your house keeper married? That was a pretty deep scratch.
