Closing of gym on Chicago's South Side inspires members to take action

Next month, the Morgan Park neighborhood is set to lose a gym that members say is a staple in the community. Hundreds of gym members are banding together in hopes of stopping the closure and they're asking local aldermen for help.

That gym had rock solid membership, crowded with seniors. Those seniors receive a benefit on the Medicare Advantage programs to cover the cost of membership. The gym gets paid mostly thru govt funds. The issue is larger than just that location.

This gym is not suffering from business in fact we’ve had to get creative to share the space because it’s always busy! I can travel elsewhere but there are seniors who attend simply because of the companionship but I guess no one cares when it doesn’t affect your life 😢

What folks don’t understand is it was a husband and wife that owned LA Fitness and Esporta. There was a divorce. There was a business split off. Esporta is not being profitable. That place is too expensive, it’s $25 a month for a membership and to bring someone it goes up to $40 a month their obviously struggling for business

@@Hooperd2023 It is a lot when you have Planet Fitness as a competitor and their monthly fees are $10 without a commitment, now I see why they kept giving me free passes and stalked my phone to sign up with them again, when I started with them I was paying $15 monthly and I was able to bring my daughter, I can literally go to the real L A fitness with those prices, who wants to pay those prices in a knock off gym????
