There is a growing trend of women in the U.S. having babies alone because they're tired of waiting for "the one," or because they simply want to parent solo. Nikki Battiste has the story.

Yes it seems like the media supports women choosing to be single moms but don’t support childfree women and call them selfish. I think it’s a woman’s choice whether she wants children or not. I am a 40 year old male with autism and will be 41 on May 25th. I work part time at Walmart, don’t drive, and still live with my parents. I would like to live on my own and get married one day but don’t want any children. Part of the reason why I don’t want children is because raising children will be a lot for me with my autism.

@@ronaldjoseph9055 Yes. You are very right. It should be a woman's choice if she wants a kid for the rest of the life or not. Or if she doesn't want to take care of the kid then drop the baby at his/hers father's house and the father should take care of HIS kid.

Single mom by choice but that child didnt ask to be raised by one parent!
@SL-lz9jr
@SL-lz9jr 11 күн бұрын
No but if it’s a stable adult who planned well for it, I don’t think the child will suffer as many consequences than if it was an unplanned pregnancy by a couple who end up in divorce or child abandonment by one of the parents. Could be a lot worse than a parent who wanted to be a mom so bad that they went through it all to make it happen. Having said that, not every single mom by choice is necessarily doing it with full consideration for the child’s well-being. I do know of women who are rather older and who aren’t financially stable who have tried to become single moms and I don’t think that would’ve been good for the child. Although they did have a very strong tight knit family including brothers who would’ve stepped up as uncles and father figures.

@thepoetswife
@thepoetswife 4 күн бұрын
@@davidortiz3094that is false. First of all there has never been statistics on single mothers by choice. There is statistics about single parents in general, particularly mothers, and this is a complicated issue for many reasons. Most obvious being: most single parent households before and now are not single mothers by accident or by choice, but rather through divorce, the reasons can vary but usually include abuse, cheating, financial and addiction issues, so not only those would be traumatizing during the most essential years for the child's psyche, they're also unplanned which adds a whole other level of burden and stress to it, including not being able to spend enough time with the child because suddenly you have to take on more roles and make more efforts providing for your child and that while possibly being traumatized yourself. The next thing is this statistics does not accurately represent the class and race issue. Among single mothers by circumstances, there are more people of color and more people beyond poverty line, so those class and wealth differences also contribute to the bad statistical outcomes. So obviously people who are rich and privileged and white are less likely to experience bad outcomes later in life but they are also more likely to come from a 2 parent household. And since correlation doesn't imply causation, you can't make a fair argument that their outcomes in life or even the fact they are more likely to have 2 parents only comes from the latter and in no way influenced by other circumstances including historical differences and wealth and class and race. If you take Afghanistan for example, it has the lowest single family percentage in the world and yet doesnt make outcomes for the kids better. So context matters and other determinants are way more important. And of course, societal norms and expectations matter, as single parenting becomes more acceptable, these kids going to feel less pressure and judgment to have let's say a father in the family to be like other kids. There are other things at play but most important ones I think I highlighted.

The bottom line in all this is choice. Women who choose to be single without any children have a right to do so. Just like women who make a decision to go to a clinic to have a child because they want to be parents whether or not they are married. The bottom line is the right for a woman to make a decision on her own without anyone interfering. So what's so funny about that ?

I know three women in my circle who are single moms by choice. 2 adopted children, and the other got a friend sperm donor like the woman featured (and had twins). They are all amazing mothers and their kids are thriving. What I notice about these women is that they put a lot of thought into how they would provide for these children-- not just financially (however, they are all making good money), but also socially and emotionally. They all reached out to their circle of friends and family and asked us to be a village that surrounds and supports them and their children. No one can really raise children alone (or with just one other person/spouse). You need the support of your community.

@NomadicIslanders

My mother did the same at the age of 30. And I’m glad she did because by the time she met my step-father she could no longer have kids. I am now 30, living a fulfilled life, travelling the world with my husband full time. A lot of my friends who did have a father, grew up with and still have a lot of daddy issues (and trauma). I know this may not be the norm, but where I’m from, it’s common because the father is usual the person who disciplines. And in my country where it’s legal to beat your kids, it’s no surprise most people with fathers don’t have good relationships with them and have a lot of trauma. While this may not work for everyone, I’m happy my mother decided to do it. The reality is a lot of people end up being single mothers after separations, fathers don’t step up to the plate, or just leave all the child rearing to the mother anyway so at the end of the day, she is still functioning as a single mother but while married 🤷🏽‍♀️. These days, this isn’t much different than what ends up happening in a lot of cases anyway. One loving parent who can provide in a happy home is way better than two dysfunctional parents or one parent who loathes the other for not helping with taking care of the kids. When I look at my life vs. the life of everyone I grew up with, I am glad my mother made the decision she did.

Unless they are adopting kids that's very different. There's no benefit from not having a dad when you could have had one. These kids are made to be fatherless to fulfill a desire that someone wants to be a mom. That's completely selfish. If you never get married and spend $25 dollars on a seed for a child who legally can't see their father until after 18 (happened in England with someone who was like 24 25) is sad. Adopt your 12 disciples. Adopt that 17 year old about to age out. Adopt that kid with health issues that could have a longer life if they had a parent. My cousin is adopted and only has a mom. She got her. 3 days old. The woman who had her pick my aunt. She wanted a baby yes but she didn't make a kid be fatherless she helped a kid NOT be in the system. That's very very different.

Being raised by a single responsible parent is far better than being raised in a household with two dysfunctional parents. Far too many use the situations that turned out bad with single mothers and ignore the ones that turned out fine. They blame the mothers as to why the child ended up as a delinquent while ignoring that the father who had partial custody but just as much influence as the mother and who was a terrible influence, they ignore that society and churches stigmatized women for being single and make it difficult to even exist, or that society pressures a women into a relationship with a man who could turn into another bad influence, all because “a child needs a dad.” A child doesn’t need a dad if he’s just an irresponsible pos. Women can be bad parents too obviously but so can men, yet somehow it’s the mother’s fault if it doesn’t work out.

Easy to say. That’s the logical choice but when it comes to people who truly desire having kids, it’s anything but logical 😅. It’s more emotional at that point, to grow the baby in your belly yourself, the body releasing all these hormones to get you to bond with the baby you desire so much, to watch baby grow from moment you give birth. Adoption is necessary and really good thing to do for everyone but for these people, biology trumps reason and it’s human nature to spread their genes and would want to put your own blood as priority. Also adopting is not so easy. A lot of those kids are abandoned by parents who were not healthy mentally, emotionally. Yes there’s some strictly financially not ready but most were given up because they had issues from biological parents. Adopted kids need extra care and attention. It’s a bit complicated too and often single people are turned down because adoption centers want two parents stable household with good income.

I had an abortion at 34 (it was 2020 and the baby’s father was the absolute wrong person to be a father, I was pregnant before I realized all of the red flags and there were so many), but now at 37 I think being a single mom by choice may be the way to go. Dating just isn’t working and I don’t want to miss my chance. I have so much love to give and so much wisdom to provide. I’ve always wanted to be a mom since I was a child. I just never imagined life would be this hard. If the man wasn’t a walking red flag, I would have kept the baby, even though I myself was not in any position to be a mother. I would’ve found a way to get my life together to be its mother, but I was so worried what the father might do that I just couldn’t carry it to term and risk it.

Not fair to the children at all. Being raised in a loving TWO-parent stable household does wonders for a child's development. Seeing functioning adult men and women who can role model for children is very important. Some women can parent alone excellently, but most cannot.

It looks like you did well being raised by a single mother. I was raised in two parent household. Oh but I just love the anxiety attacks that I had every now and then. Or the fact that I'm still 34 and going to therapy. Or the fact that anytime my father was around me I'll go into panic mode. But yeah having that two parent household was great. Even if it meant getting my head knocked between the washer and dryer. Our accidentally knocking over my father's liquor. I could go on and on annoying. But those lovely little bruises I carry is a daily reminder that a lot of family members of mine ain't s***. Not every two parent household is going to be glorious. People who have children need to be mentally stable before having them. Not just to have them and be selfish. There's plenty of men who impregnate women just so they could have a legacy when it's really a lineage. They don't seem to know the difference.

Children who do not have their fathers are most likely to feel insecure, have trouble maintaining relationships as adults, are more likely to have mental issues and go to prison, are less likely to graduate rigorous college programs or trades, the girls sexually mature up to 5 years earlier than those who live with their fathers, the boys lose 1-3 inches of maximum height, and their telomeres are shorter which shortens overall lifespan. Yea that sounds like a recipie for preparing a well-adjusted adult for the world. remember a person will be an adult far longer than being a child, and a child longer than being a baby.

In my apt building there are a few of these women. Very affluent with good jobs. They look run down and tired. Only can afford one child and are over forty by default. As a married mother of two in my 20s you couldn't catch me doing that. By putting social life on the backburner for 20yrs these women end up choosing this difficult road after serious sacrifices and rejecting acceptable men who could have supported them in this major decision. Having a single mother is not ideal. I can't imagine doing postpartum alone and then having to hustle back to work because I'm the only provider. This sounds messy and I don't think it will continue beyond the late 30s generation. The buck has already stopped with this "trend".

A male spouse is NOT a partner, but your husband. If you’re a woman who has a mentality that a male spouse is a partner and not your husband then you have the wrong view of who your male spouse is. Some woman like to say partner instead of husband, because a husband is based upon wives being submissive to their husband as unto the Lord in everything as well as husbands leadership authority over their wives, because the husband is the head of the wife. Yes, husband and wife work together as a team, but the wife ultimately submits unto her husband. If a womans’ viewpoint of a male spouse is first a partner above all else and does not view a husband as the head of the wife then those woman have no business getting married, until they decide to be submissive, period.

There are so many disadvantages and future problems a child will face if raised by a single mother (which they don't face when raised by a single father strangely enough). This is not a good thing! I am so sick of this Feminist BS that is not only destroying families but destroying society as well. Furthermore, when it comes to "sperm donors" (and I am talking about literal sperm donors who donated at fertility clinics) why have so many men now been retroactively sued for child support by these empowered "single mothers". And yes, you can look that up as well. What a joke this all is.
