Great to see older folks are being hired! As long as your health is good, why not? Older people have so much wisdom due to life experiences, I believe they would be a fantastic asset to any airline, just by the mere fact that they have seen SO much of what life is and has or doesn't offer.

Older folks were being hired for this position LONG before COVID-19 was even on people's radar. Ever since about the late 1970s or early 1980s, airlines here in the US have not been allowed to discriminate based on age, gender, or physical appearance. Maybe they still do that in some parts of the world, but it's illegal here in the US.

It has to fit your lifestyle and unfortunately it’s not for everyone. Someone like me who does not have a mortgage & not planning to invest in real estate anytime in the future & has a kid in college who’s on a full scholarship ride, money no longer matters to me. I get to travel the world anytime for free and this is the only job that keeps my entire being in check all the time. I’ve never had this much discipline in myself and freedom since I got into this rewarding career.

$62k a year???? I was hired in 2022 & I made $19k my first year as a United flight attendant lol. We’re not paid for boarding, delays, sits between flights….

Liz, did you not understand what she said ? She said the medium py for flight attendants nationwide is just under 62,000 starting flight attendants earn less.

God bless every flight attendant who flies the skies today. I'm surprised the don't put them through police academy training with the 🤡 cars that are a good number of the public today. Having to deal with that 33,000 ft in the air, in a metal tube. Not to mention the other responsibilities of the job. It USED to be a glamorous job, back in 60's, 70's, up even in 90's. Society has devolved to a bottom denominator , for most part since those days. All the best to all of them!

They do get a security training on how to react to violence & hijacking. Also how to arrest someone in the air if necessary & put them in handcuffs.

I was a flight attendant for35 years, based at four different domiciles. I have flown with and known thousands of other flight attendants and never, not once have I ever met somebody who made $130,000 a year. Perhaps they exist, but to say that some make $130,000 a year is like saying some people are multibillionaires. Very few and very far between. It was a great career, but those days are mostly over. Unless you have at least 30 years of seniority at most airlines, the job is thankless.

Quite a few of my friends and I make that amount, butI have been flying for 34 years. It can be done with plenty of seniority and max pay. We still love our job and some days are thankless, yet I never want to do anything else. Some days I go home knowing that I’ve made a difference in somebody’s life. I’ve had a few emergencies over the years and I knowI did okay. I have done everything else before, restaurant server, served in USMC, receptionist, yet I find this the most fun. It helped me raise a little girl as a single mom and she’s now an amazing adult. One day I will retire and say that I’ve done it all and traveled the world. 💜

@@mariasinner3534 I also loved being a flight attendant! I used to tell people that I felt like I was surrounded by love at work. I had no intention of leaving, but I have some health issues and when COVID came along and my company offered a package to leave, I felt like it was my time. I miss my friends, the job and even most of the passengers. I bet that I would have loved flying with you!

@@mariasinner3534…that’s a great thing to. make that much and still get the days off. I never broke through $75K in my years of flying. Well, I was fortunate enough to have a few other sources of income that I was able to invest most of my UAL earnings. Having been based in SFO out of training was great for I live close by in Atherton and did a short stint in SEA then back to SFO. I loved every moment of it and wish I had stayed but I got injured and left in 2010. I do miss it a lot but being work free ever since has been divine. Best of luck.

I hope that screeching trainee (the one that sounds like Kimberly Guilfoil during the Republican convention) during the practice emergency situation will drop out before I take my next flight! It was impossible to understand what she was saying and that voice could send even the calmest flyers into full blown panic.

American Airlines, on the other hand, keeps their FA trainees chained in cages where they are sprayed with cold water at unpredictable intervals. That goes on until they snarl and snap at anybody approaching, and then they are given their flight assignments. Welcome aboard.

I think flight attendants are being over paid. Look at their job duty, light and easy with leisure pleasure, plus the traveling and sight seeing are so ridiculous awesome. Why even ask for 60k a years

Training is tough and extensive but it’s all worth it. You gotta love it for you to stay in this career for the long haul.
