Caster Semenya did not “cheat” on purpose. Caster has a very rare intersex condition called 5α-Reductase 2 deficiency which only affects genetic males. Individuals with this condition have normal male internal organs that are not fully masculinized during embryo development. When they are born their external genitalia can appear ambiguous or female. During male puberty the external genitalia may stay the same or start to take on more male characteristics. It is so unfortunate that she had to find out about herself on the world stage. Babies with 5a-Reductase 2 deficiency are raised as girls because they look like girls. It is not until puberty that things become more clear.
@RyMuEntertainment Жыл бұрын
Very interesting stuff, and I do agree it was unfortunate for this person to find out publicly, but with that said... why are we celebrating her "victories" when, technically, all the other female athletes have been robbed? This is akin to these so-called transformed wanting to compete against natural born females. The only measure fairness here would be if these type of athletes would be grouped and made to compete amongst themselves. The same goes for the trans athletes. I bet they won't do it.
@_rrwwcox6 ай бұрын
THIS!! This is the most accurate and kindest explanation I've seen regarding Semenya. Why can't the news anchors have said as much. They've treated Semenya's case as very ambiguous by leaving out science and that was an editorial choice that has left the public confused and upset. Journalistic ethics and integrity require reporting the facts (one would hope and expect the SCIENTIFIC facts) rather than sentiment. We should have conpassion for Semenya, but also be clear that Semenya is male, not a "woman who appears masculine" or other confusing nonsense. We can be polite without lying or obfuscating reality.

Sports are about bodies, not identity. Biological sex matters in sports. Gender identity is irrelevant. It's literally why men and women have separate categories, because XX bodies cannot compete with XY bodies. To falsely make this about gender identity and inclusion rather than physical advantage in an arena that is 100% about physical performance is gaslighting, frankly. It erases biological females from the sports world, as they will never be able to compete. And at this level of competition, it is about careers, scholarships, and the futures of thousands of women. They should not be working for hours a day, sacrificing everything just to come up against a competitor whose bone density, size, musculature, etc. gives them an unfair advantage. That's all this is. I think to make it fair, we need to make an "open" category for trans and intersex athletes to compete in.
@denisewalsh65864 ай бұрын
As Ben Shapiro said you can't magically change your gender. Gender Identity is not the same as your Biological Gender any scientist knows that. @@MSK-n Semenya has multiple gold medals and world records. So no, other women couldn't keep up. I don't approve of bullying. But your belief doesn't change that this is a fact that XY athletes have an advantage over XY women that XY women cannot make up for, regardless of how hard they train. The indisputable proof of this is that having this condition is EXTREMELY rare, like below .01% of people have it, yet there are multiple women with XY chromosomes winning at the top level of sports. In boxing right now, there are two, both winning gold (one about to win gold.) If it were a fair playing field then it would be EXTREMELY rare for intersex people with XY chromosomes to be competing at the elite level of sports, and only .01% of the women in elite sports would have this condition. But that is not the case. I don't pretend that there is a simple solution to this, as I recognize trans and intersex people's humanity and gender identities. As I said, it's not about gender identity, but biological sex advantages. I think it's disingenuous and gaslighting biological (XX) women who have sacrificed A LOT to compete at the top levels of sports, to tell them they're just biased and to shut up and deal with it as they go up against people who have an inherent advantage against them. This is favoring a tiny percentage of women and throwing 99.99% of women under the bus. It's misogynistic, even if the intention is not that and it comes from a good place to want to be inclusive. Social inclusion should not come at the cost of another marginalized group (women.) There is a reason they separated men and women in sports. XY bodies are more powerful than XX bodies, even at the same height and weight and when testosterone is suppressed. That is a scientific fact, no matter how inconvenient that is for those of us who support trans and intersex rights. But now that people are more free socially to identity with the gender they believe themselves to be, we have the issue of increasing incongruity between the sex of female elite athletes and the gender of these athletes. There has to be a more equitable solution to this problem than just telling biological women to shut their mouths, stop complaining, and take the L, or else they are bigots. That's bullying women with legitimate concerns.
@miekeeerkens10014 ай бұрын

And again, XY intersex condition is VERY, VERY rare in the general population, but not at all rare in elite sports. The statement made by CBS morning host " you were born w female genitalia" Is patently false, this is not opinion but fact. Caster has male chromosomes and had no female genitalia, rather an absence of male genitals. In his country it is common place to "decide" to gender someone with this condition as female. He has testicles that weren't apparent at birth as often males havnt "dropped" until later in life. I find it curious that this morning show person would be so ignorant of real facts that are out there related to Casters real sex. He is free to identify as anything he feels comfortable with, at the same time for him to sit there and not put all the facts on the table, facts he himself knows and understands well is to say the least highly questionable. Why can't he just tell it like it is, be upfront and honest? Because then he's just another man trying to take away recognition from women who have earned and deserve it. His testosterone levels are unattainable by a biological female, by 5× at a minimum. If u doubt anything I've said here, go do your own research, it's out there and it's deep. Unfortunately, Caster Semenya, though intersex, is still genetically and biologically male. Being intersex does not mean you are both female and male. You can still categorize intersex people in one of these two categories. Caster is male not female. It is unfair to have Caster compete with women.

Please explain how the following description make a person 100% female?? "Semenya has the intersex condition 5α-Reductase 2 deficiency, which only affects genetic males. Individuals with this condition have normal male internal structures that are not fully masculinized during the embryo's development, resulting in external genitalia that appear ambiguous at birth." (Based on this description, I can see why there was such a great debate whether or not it's appropriate/fair for Semenya to compete against 100% biilogically designed women.
@greenbyrdd8308 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Clearly, there was something distinctly different about Caster, and that difference (extra testosterone) gave her an advantage over bio women without that advantage. I'm sorry for what she went through, but I do understand that the officials were trying to make it fair for all.
@CharlesPetrizzi4 ай бұрын
DSD means that you are not either 100% male or 100% female. So therefore you are intersex. If you are intersex, you are not male or female but a different category. Therefore, it's hard to justify that you should compete in an entire male or female category of a sport. Unfortunately, there should just be another category for those with DSD.

This is a human being with feelings just like anyone else and we all thought that she resembled a man because of her features back then and then we found out that she was born with a rare special condition. Unlike the other wannabes, she was actually born this way and her situation was not very popular because it’s not something you hear about very often and this reminds me of HIV/aids years ago in how it was mishandled which lead to more outbreaks or spreading of the disease compared to now and how things have changed and these things happen because people are insensitive, alarmed and just plain evil so it’s a mixture of a bunch of different reasons. Many were thinking that she might have an unfair advantage over the other women but she was born that way so what do you do?
