The Olympic gold swimmer is back to a strict training regimen after a lull that included skipping practice and uncertainty about returning to the games. Anderson Cooper reports.

I kind of understand his attitude after '08. Not that I condone drugs or laziness even, but I can see how he would be dying to explore everything at his age. His talent locked him in a strict lifestyle for years and he's probably never had the chance to just have fun in his teenage years like the rest of us.

Even crazier watching this after he´s just finished with 28 medals in Rio...
@mamabutterfly37638 жыл бұрын
I admire him and his mother so greatly. Not only for his success and all the medals he earned but for the person he is. The kind gentleman he is. How he adores his mother and his wife and new baby boy too. To the world he is an unstoppable decorated Olympic legend but when he sat down for an interview on ESPN he shared some of his most intimate struggles that no one ever knew. After all he is still a person, he is human. He feels pain just like others do. With all his success and his record breaking title, there is still a person behind all that achievement and had felt heartache in life just as you and I do. I admire him for that and his mother too. She raised him well with no credit to his father.

As a swimmer, I've always looked up to Michael Phelps. Nothing has changed! He is back on his game, and you know what? Celebrities have "drug problems" all the time and he's man enough to admit it was a one time mistake and that he can't have any regrets. He's a great swimmer, and great guy, and great mentor! Love you Phelps, and go kick some butt like we all know you can

I row competitively-nothing close to olympic level-but at the end of a really hardcore season all I want is a summer away from training. The strain on the body and the effect it has on your emotions and mental strength can really be enormous. Imagine what it's like not getting a break for years and years.
@stefan1301899 жыл бұрын
i mean what do they want from him? he won 8 golds in beijing only. they are all too strict. guy needs a break sometimes so what? who wouldnt want a break after that?

Mr. Cooper, it's not "two thousand AND eight," "two thousand AND nine," or "two thousand AND ten." When saying numbers, "and" is only used in place of the decimal. I love you, Michael!

It's amazing that he can just loss a gold medal and not even notice, especially when you think about all the Olympians who just want one gold. Kinda goes to show how great of an athlete his is that he has so many golds

I wonder if Bob (Michael's coach) has met Buck Showalter?? (manager of the Orioles) Both have that disciplinary "attitude" if u know what I mean but both are very nice men. I have met Buck and he's a very nice guy but I'm sure that he's got his "attitude" when he's with the guys.

i can really relate to phelps and im sure most of you other swimmer do too. we practice like 6 days a week 3 hours a day or maybe even more and it really is a pain in the ass because you dont have time for anything else. Just experiencing the beginning of summer without swimming is the best feeling in the world.
@nedopking12 жыл бұрын
he lost a lot of my respect when that happened. But now I was just recently thinking that he might do that stuff, but he still trains and works harder than anyone else. And training hard is probably more important than smoking/not smoking

Not his fault he got the silver medal. In fact, he had the fastest split out of his relay. It was Lochte, who is not familiar with the 100 free that dragged them down to silver. Also he got fourth mostly because he hadn't intended to swim the 400im but then decided to put it back on his program.

He doesnt care anymore being a swimmer takes a lot of dedication he just went to the olympics to break Larisa Latynina record and thats it you cant expect the same guy that got 8 gold medals he is tired probably wants to enjoy his dam life without being in a pool, lochte is not even half the athlete phelps is, doesnt mean he is not good but you just cant compare them.

Well he did have a 2 year break after the 2012 Olympics
@kyleshadeck88798 жыл бұрын
+Geronimo exactly, and he even said that he came back because he missed it. And also at 2good4u, try 18 years (excluding the 2 years he took off after London) he's been training for the olympics. If you're going to try to judge what the greatest Olympian of all time should be doing, at least know all the facts.
@projectjt31498 жыл бұрын
+2good4u not just 5 years. He's been going to the pool since he was seven. And now if you look at it that way, no wonder why he just gives up and do drugs sometimes.

kinda wonder what it was to make him so depressed enough to do drugs after winning 8 in beijing. my guess is that since he was sorta pushed to swim since he was only a little kid, he wanted to regain some lost time to just have fun that he didn't have in his childhood
