Phelps also holds the all-time records for Olympic gold medals, Olympic gold medals in individual events, and Olympic medals in individual events. When Phelps won eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games, he broke fellow American swimmer Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven first-place finishes at any single Olympic Games. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Phelps already tied the record of eight medals of any color at a single Games by winning six gold and two bronze medals.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Phelps won four gold and two silver medals, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he won five gold medals and one silver.
This made him the most successful athlete of the Games for the fourth Olympics in a row.

Every little steps helps you, success is not build overnight. Nobody is perfect. Life is like a rollercoaster one day you will like a champ one day like depressing emo... life is like an exam you need to be the best version EVERYSINGLE DAY! Have the little small goals and you get excited and get better for your big last goals. Deal with pressure and be physically emotionally spiritually READY AND HEALTHY! There are days were you gonna hate everything, but thats how you work! Otherwise you never can force your mind to think differently! You can achieve anything in life. You can find anything but its important WHAT YOU WANT and WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS!!! Be able to get there.

This is an interesting and motivating talk by Michael Phelps, but I think it would be a lot more effective without all of the distracting and unnecessary background visuals.The subtitles in the middle of the screen are distracting as well. It would be good to see this video reposted without all of the distractions and subtitles with just him speaking. If there are subtitles they should be at the bottom of the screen and not right in the middle.

I’d love to know more about why he says if swimmers take 1 day off, takes them 2 to get it back. Any swimmers that can explain this and/or agree? Because it’s body movement so different from everyday movement, is that why
@swimgeek
@swimgeek Жыл бұрын
hard to explain, but its not like anything youd experience with land based athletics- you literally can feel the impact of taking a day or two off. you just dont feel "normal". if you lift or go to the gym the best analogy is like weights you can normally lift with ease, and having them feel particularly heavy on a random day.

Feel for the water is the difference. IMO you need to go and do swim squad 10+ x a week for years to understand. Closest way to describe it though if you already know how to swim well is to go and do 25-50m fresh and think about holding that technique for a 3-5km set. Michael is on a different planet to most of us though and may be more eloquent in his explanation.

I was a collegiate swimmer, it’s true in the fact that it’s not so much as being missing a day makes you 2 days out of shape but when you train in water, you lose the “feel” of the pulling the water and it takes a little bit to get it back if you take a break too long. I never noticed it taking one day off but definitely when I took more than 3-4 days off.

Is that statement “if you take one day off it takes you two to get back to where you were” really true physiologically? Or is it a mental thing?

It’s true I’ve swum enough to know that if I miss one day of training it takes me 2 days to do what I did the previous day. Also it’s kind of psychological as well!😊

Unfortunately you are definitely not welcome into the Athletics Australia community if you are living with depression anxiety or any other mental health issues so don’t bother with athletics! Athletics here in Australia is a toxic environment the track is no safe place and the bullying and harassment that goes on

Yes he’s a great swimmer but he should work on other areas of life. Like being kind enough to stop and say hello to kids in a college where he was using their pool for, well I forgot why, it was a while ago. He never talked to the kids at Maryland college. He ditched them. Not a great role model.
