@@chuckstockford2338the Cherokee Nation determined their own rules at the beginning of the 20th century by having people within the Nation decide whether to be included or not in the Dawes Rolls, which became the determining factor of belonging to the tribe or not. To belong to the tribe and have citizenship within the Nation, one has to be able to prove an ancestor was included in the Rolls. White men had nothing to do with it.

Many people don't take socialization into account. I have friends who are ethnically black but raised by people who are "white". She was socialized white because that's all her parents knew to raise her despite her being ethnically black. So, she has experiences as a person not raised by black parents that I will never relate to. That's what happened with the one-drop rule. Because of that rule...it didn't matter if people were ethnically mixed...they were socialized as black. They had no more privilege than any other black person. So, I feel like if you are of a certain age and you say you are "black" then that's what you were. I would never argue with an 80-year-old over their "blackness". As in many black families, I grew up with older family members that had white fathers that they never knew because their black mothers were raped by them or whatever. Either way...there was no relationship there. They were raised by their black mothers, grew up with their black relatives, and socialized black. I'm not arguing with them and telling them they aren't really black. That's very different than this young generation with the Zendayas and Yara Shahidi's.

@@rainbeauxunicorn5237 Btw, Biracial is a modern term. And it also doesn't accurately describe someone who is 75% white and 25% black or 87% white or 12.5% black. Quadroon and Octaroon are the correct terms that describes that. You be as offended as you want to be. My QUADROON daughter and OCTAROON granddaughter, know who they are. They know/will know their history. They know Mixed History in this country, the Caribbeans, all of North America, Mexico, Central and South America where Mixed People populated. They know about the Casta Racisl Categories. These categories were descriptions of these NEW racial mixtures that had never ever existed before. And the Casta Racial Categories accurately described these new racial mixtures. A Biracial person can be any 50/50 mixture. A multiracial person can be all kinds of things. BUT, the only one that accurately describes a person who is 75% White and 25% Black is Quadroon. And again, these terms were used on the Census Rolls. And it is in no way equivalent to any negative terms. Next time you try to come after someone, take a minute to actually learn the history first. So again, Have a good Day.

This is in spite of him knowing otherwise. One could easily say that what others say about you is none of your business, but when you have to exist in a certain state of surrealism, i.e. showing up to do and be your best in spite of obstacles and or haters, it can be hard to forget and take a toll on you. I think the lady who wrote this book has something personal against bi racial or lighter skinned people of African descent which is sad. She comes of first as someone trying to raise the subject from the perspective of biracial people being denied their Identity and then ends as saying biracial people have long used their lighter skin as a way to get ahead of darker skinned people of African descent. Go tell that to Miss Rosa Parks and Malcolm X all of them were victims of the same racism all people of African descent faced in the pre civil rights movement days.

Just not because of the color of my skin but other factors... I've been denied housing, unjustly fired, dismissed by doctors, harassed by strangers, brutalized by cops, unfairly convicted, rejected by my family, denied education, and suffered years from depression, alcohol and addiction.... But I've had real push back from both blacks and whites when I try to express my solidarity and understanding of being oppressed.... They act like slavey was the only sin in Americas past and even trying to hold other stains from it's past up on the same level is blasphemy.... There's a plethora of skeletons in lady liberty's closet... Each is an outrage unto it's self.... Oppression is much more than racism.... And I want to join the conversation it's my past too.... I celebrate all that makes me unique and want all to know the sins and stains of this country we call home.... But my voice is often devalued, dismissed, or misunderstood when trying to learn and connect with all the parts of my lineage.... It's hard to be part of a conversation about race when you look like the oppressor even though it has granted you no privilege as you had many other hated traits that they could hold over your head and lay on your shoulders.... I want to be part of my parentage... And honor my bloodline... It's my history too... So please don't exclude me from owning all the things that lead to me.... Was she raped? Was it consensual? Yet Free People of Color that were never enslaved existed. There were also Native American Women that had children with European men. There also was the 1/8 rule of African blood, many crossed over to white society, passing. The 1 drop rule, became prominent after slavery was abolished. During slavery, the child would always take the station of his mother. People often get these 2 laws mixed up. Your going to talk about the race structure of society without talking about the class structure of society and our America class history? Working white people do not shape the structure of society instead it's the bourgeois, the white supremacy. Like the same white people who were rich back in 1600 are still rich today and come from a long lineage of category races and identity politics. Hitler thought the one drop rule was way extreme for even him. I mean they're were literally white people who were counted as black because of the one drop rule, why wasn't that even brought up?

The white people in the "one drop right" were considered colored and were no longer apart of white society. This was the purpose, to keep poor people as oppressed as possible. Bacon's Rebellion is a perfect example of how the rich created race an an opportunity to make more money and maintain power.

I noticed the one drop rule is applied only to African Americans, whites with Native American blood are still white, whites with Hispanic and Asian linage still white but those whites with African blood are black. In other words having African blood is a stigma and tainted. It's obvious that African Americans were obviously seen as the most inferior, the lowest and worst of the bunch, the most dispised minority, the least respected ghe least accepted most of the racial violence and terror thst occurred in the US during the first half of the twentieth century was directed against African Americans no other minority was targeted like that, also blacks were the only group to be segregated in the military, yet many white Americans will say blacks are not African American just American huh strange how they don't say Asian Americans are just American or told they're being diversive or even racist for claiming their Asian identity. Did you even bother to watch the video or read the book before commenting, or are you just here to spew your ignorance? Let me break it down for you, since you seem to be struggling. The "one drop" rule was a racist policy that defined anyone with even a drop of Black ancestry as Black, regardless of their actual appearance or cultural identity. This rule was used to justify slavery, segregation, and other forms of discrimination against Black Americans for centuries. And guess what? The legacy of this rule still affects us today, from racial profiling to the racial wealth gap. So instead of whining like a spoiled child, why don't you educate yourself on the history of racism in this country and try to understand how it continues to impact people of color today. But hey, if that's too much work for you, feel free to keep crying "boohoo" like a clueless buffoon.
