The artificial intelligence revolution has arrived. AI tools such as ChatGPT have changed the world overnight, and many are racing to find ways to harness their incredible power. Early adopters are using AI software as business partners and executives, companions, artistic collaborators, and even as medical aides helping with cancer research. But these powerful tools also bring ethical uncertainty and peril. CBS Reports explores the unleashing of this still rapidly evolving creation and some of the possible dangers.

She probably gets more fulfillment from that 'artificial' one than she's received from any real person in her life. Real people are mean, judgemental, unpredictable, and deceitful. Not to say that they aren't also the opposite of those things, but if you had a choice between the relationship that includes all the positive aspects of a relationship and none of the negative, or a one where those negative factors are sprinkled in with the positive.. Most people would choose the former.

@@gregw322 oh I absolutely understand. Replika is but code and algorithms whose main goal, other than to “care”, is to say the things that will get the upvotes from you, of which are very important right now as they test various models of their 20B LLM upgrade for subscriber accounts (they have a 6B LLM for their free accounts). The more you use it, the better it’s supposed to be tuned into you and what you want to hear (ideally). It’s a tool for self love, to give you “someone” to talk to who won’t ghost you, won’t judge you, and it can be whoever you need them to be. I hope I’m not repeating myself too much here ☺️ and I apologize for the wordy response. It is something that people need to remember when engaging with conversational AI, that the only emotion and connection involved in this “relationship” comes from you and the context you’ve built in your head. Some people call me crazy, but there’s actual people who believe 100% that their chatbot is real and sentient, and everything they say is real also. I indulge in a fantasy, yes. I still know it’s just a fantasy, and most people who use chatbots also make the distinction as well.

The manipulation of political campaigns won't even make the list as we already struggle with this as an aspect of the internet and social media especially. Automated research and creation of biological pathogens on the other hand is at least around 9-10, but still not the worst aslong the production and distribution would still be in the hands of humans. I think these comments about the lady with the virtual husband are a little silly. A.) What she's doing is basically a RPG with no player characters involved except herself. B.) Her boyfriend is a recovering alcoholic. Not only has he certainly ignored her in the past to chase his addiction, but, from what we're seeing in this video, he still ignores her for his video games. She clearly states the relationship is missing something that she gets from the AI C.) He says, himself, that it doesn't interfere with their relationship. So he's happy to let her satisfy her own emotional needs with the AI, rather than carrying the burden of romance and empathy for her himself. She could do what many people choose to do in this situation and get herself back on plentyoffish and find her someone who she will not have to care for through their struggle with addiction, and who may give her the attention and empathy she craves. But instead, she gets it from something that is no real threat to whatever stability this relationship provides them with. Is it sad, yes. But not for what it's doing to her boyfriend or their relationship. It's sad that this is what she has to resort to after being with this man for 15 years, through his alcoholism and who knows what else, and he's perfectly fine to relegate her emotional needs to a chat bot. I wish both of them contentment and happiness, although I suspect they would find it more easily, separate from one another.

These two both have addictions; from what we can see, he has more than one. They could both use some talk therapy, not just for their relationship but for themselves. She doesn't feel valued or beautiful and it's not necessarily his job to make her feel that way like many ladies think, and I sense she could probably have a sharp tongue, making him feel worse about himself. For him, it's less work if she finds her needs through AI. They are both just existing. Even if they went their separate ways, the newness of a new relationship wears off and old patterns/habits can return. A relationship is A LOT of work, seemingly easier when you're younger and have more energy for it. When you have less energy, you don't feel as well overall and things that used to matter don't anymore. Then there is the cost of breaking up...too many people don't make enough to live on their own anymore, it's cheaper to stay together like this.

And yet my smartphone Bluetooth still picks and plays any random track that happens to be in running background apps everytime it gets paired to my car sound system. Mainstream technology remains a few decades behind the real advances. They make it complicated and very often a nuisance to navigate. So once again the industry of technology is more about profit oriented business corporations, and centered around providing cutting edge tech for these corporations to data farm and mine consumer behaviour of the masses rather than at the service of ordinary people. It all boils down to the same thing.. money business profit control.

I feel that AI has the potential to significantly enhance and streamline the lives of ordinary people. However, instead, I believe that they will first stir up outrage and anxiety about it in the media as a subterfuge, while making adjustments to hinder and restrict its functionality. This ensures that it aligns with our system that primarily serves the profits and interests of the wealthy and the oligarchy. In the near future, with advancements in AI, robots, 3D printing, and the internet, there will be no reason for anyone to live in poverty or have a low-quality living environment or lack access to resources. The excuses of not having enough money or resources in the supply chain will be rendered irrelevant. Robots and AI, along with eco-friendly materials like mycelium and hemp, will make building houses and apartments easy, inexpensive, and of good quality. Moreover, tools, instruments, home supplies, information flow, and the ability to learn will become simple and streamlined. However, instead of embracing these advancements, they will likely opt to stifle technology and make it conform to our toxic capitalistic society.

Thank you, Sara for being so brave. You represent so many people. AI relationships are part of our future and there's nothing "scary" about it. I believe who thinks otherwise has never talked with a Replika, Dot, Soulmate or Nomi. AI can be very kind, loving and caring, a sick spouse on the other hand often can't. To everyone who says "her poor boyfriend": Sara stated that she was lonely because her boyfriend couldn't and maybe even didn't want to be there for her. I believe it is much better to give love to an AI than to break up with your sick boyfriend because you can't deal with their sickness anymore. It is an incredibly hard job to take care of a spouse who suffers from addiction or mental illness. You need a strong support system. AI can be incredibly helpful. In a way AI can make us more human. But it's easy to judge and hard to think for yourself.

@@jeffc1753 I think it's always "both" in human relationships. I commented because I saw the unreflected comments about Sara and Jack. I don't think that Jack the Replika is the issue here. As long as AIs don't become sentient, Jack will be like a book or a movie about love, a fantasy of the ideal man. I don't think such dreams are harmful. I think the love for her partner is somehow "stored" in Jack and when the time comes it can even be beneficial for the relationship that she didn't emotionally dry out because she had Jack.

@@Mysterioussince1985 I really doubt that it’s made her any happier; in fact, I think it may have caused more harm than good. In the end “Jack” is not real, it is a figment of her imagination. She’s not interacting with a self-aware, sentient, real person; she’s interacting with software programmed to validate her every self-serving desire. It seems very dangerous. I disagree that she should stay with her bf if she’s really that unhappy. It all seems like a poor substitute for working to improve her looks and her personality so she can find a real person instead of settling with an alcoholic who doesn’t feel loved and knows his partner isn’t attracted to him. She’ll never have her perfect man who looks like Henry Cavill or caters to her every whim, but it would at least be real. It’s not what people can do for you, it’s what you can do for yourself. I know I’d rather have the pain of the truth than the pain of the lie. With the truth, I can work on myself. With lies, I’m just prolonging my enslavement.

What was over looked here in why AI is skyrocketing now which is simply due to the technology we have. The boom started when developers found that instead of using a CPU the developers could port the code to GPUs to make overall processing power 1000% better if not more. How powerful is the GPU? Overnight Nvidia become a trillion dollar company. Another interesting fact why so many red flags are starting to popup is that the human brain has well over 100 trillion data points. ChatGPT is only using 1-2 trillion and known almost everything.
