Theres not enough detail in this story that tell us how it was discovered and it is doubtful that building inspectors and code enforcement are flying around in helicopters on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis checking out the rooftops. They don't even do that on foot. Most of them just scour google earth or wait for a complaint. That being said a pool like that can be assembled and ready for water in about 30 minutes or less by 2 or 3 people. It would have taken 2 or 3 days to fill that with a garden hose. So essentially it's pretty easy to put that pool up under the nose of inspectors, code enforcement, and the landlord.

My dad and I guesstimated the pool was 5' x 12' x 30'. which is 1800 cubic ft of water. water is approx. 62.43 lbs per cubic foot, which gave a total of 112,374 lbs of water. divide by 2000 to give the tonnage of around 56 tons. we were close on the dimensions of the pool...
The sampoong mall collapse really needs be taught to people as it’s a good example of what happens when u add heavy things to a roof without proper calculations.

If you want to build a pool on a roof top, you need wise knowledge first. The building needs to be built or improved upon to hold such a heavy object to prevent a deadly collapse. I like and support the idea of a rooftop pool, but just make sure you are building several collumns from the roof top to all levels down to the basement floors to support all the stress and tension these floors will have. By the way, I personally believe that nobody needs a permit only wise knowledge, nothing more.

@GorgieClarissa2 жыл бұрын
The math is a bit off in this newspiece.... 60 tons = 44k gallons of water. A standard 12x24x4 pool is 8,600 gallons or 11 tons. YES that is heavy. BUT it's about 6 times lighter than what is being reported. Water is heavy AF, but for a pool to be 60 freaking tons, this pool would need to be 30x50x4 and... that makeshift pool is NOT that big. It's not difficult to use a converter and standard pool sizes online to make sure the math checks out. Idk why they just didn't say it was 1,000,000 tons if they are just throwing out random numbers

I think back to the 1970s, when many young people had water beds in their apartments. They were king sized sacks of water, and the must have weighed a shit load. Certainly most apartment bedrooms weren't designed to have 800 pound vinyl bags of water in them. But most people rented suites in old apartments built in the 1920s. I always wondered if that was stressful to floors & construction.

You're kidding, right? All dwellings should have a pool? Buildings built well before personal pools were invented or readily available in an area that literally has no room for them?
