@@ironclad452the terms "Republican" and "conservative" have been bastardized by the likes of you. Isolationism, far-right nationalism, minority rule, iron fist government control over people you disagree with, and hatred of others has nothing to do with Republicanism. Not saying you ascribe to all of these tenets of fascism, but I guarantee you applaud at least one or two of them. If you understood history, economics, global affairs, philosophy, and/or political science as much as you think you do you'd realize how much of a mistake you're making. There's nothing wrong with being a conservative, but the current Republican Party has very few true conservatives left. Sure the vast majority have some or many conservative beliefs, but when you look at the full picture it's no longer a conservative party; it's a hodgepodge of nationalism, populism, fascism, and theocracy. Voting for any far-right politicians (or far-left for that matter) shows you have a very limited understanding of how the world works or at best you have placed idealistic beliefs where you should have realistic ones. At the end of the day the far-right and far-left are the same. The difference between the two major parties is that the vast majority of GOP politicians and voters are now far-right, while only a small percentage of Democratic politicians and voters are far-left (regardless of what your chosen media sources tell you). Mitt Romney, like John McCain, is another one-time GOP presidential nominee who is just plain wrong on the issues but was of the Old Guard, a man who you could trust on character, to do know that he at least some idea of the ideals, principles and integrity that he was supposed to live up to. Growing up in a military family, I thought I was a Republican, and despite attending one of those East Coast liberal elite colleges, I remained one. Until one day while listening to that buffoon Rush Limbaugh, I realized I wasn't. Right up until the 90s you could expect House Republicans to be decently mannered. Right until Newt Gingrich happened. To me, he really set trend in motion for where the GOP stands today, a hollow caricature of itself. Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney were the last of the Old Guard House Republicans, as young as they were. These remaining Republicans can't find two scruples to rub together among them and couldn't hold a candle to the old ones. The Party of Lincoln is dead.

Our democracy is fragile but not for the reasons you likely think. It is the Left, which has gone insane and that is not hyperbole. The counter reaction is the populism and Trump. When Obama voiced seeking to fundamentally change the USA and then attempted to do that, therein was the genesis of the issue. No one sought to overturn the Constitution on Jan 6. That is a foolish assertion. Also, Romney voting for impeachment, was so embarrassing and such a politically stupid thing to do. It was based upon hatred of Trump not the merits of the impeachment articles. Romney thinks he is standing for principle, but he fails to look very deeply. He does not see where the actual threats lie. It is with identity politics, the denial of fundamental biological realities, institutionalizing racism and overtly flirting with Marxist-socialist economics. The country cannot stand if any of these succeed.
@shawnm394111 ай бұрын
And in 2004 when he was governor the Democrats were sure that John Kerry was going to win the election and were worried that Romney would pick a Republican. The Democrats could not let that happen so they passed a law taking that power away from the governor and called instead for a special election. When Ted Kennedy was dying of brain cancer Democrats needed a Senator in Kennedy seat to help pass Obamacare. There was no time for a special election because that would take months. At the time the governor of Massachusetts was a Democrat so the Democrats wanted to change the law again and give the power to appoint a Senator back to the governor. Their dirty plan failed and a Republican was elected to replace Ted Kennedy.

Democrats wanted to shut down the west for instance and trump supported the economic use of public lands. Mitt Romney a Mormon really doesn’t care. He’s fine with destroying most of utahs economy outside of big cities. Trump supports being government but wake up! Each party doubles the deficit every eight years basically. I will say trump helped point out the issue with China. Chinas not a problem. The problem is the monetary system promotes rich people and offshoring jobs and hollowing out the e US. The military wrote a paper saying they’re reliant on China for inputs to fight China. Listen to luke gromen. The issue is the monetary system and inflation and ever bigger deficits or debt to promote credit creation so we can avoid a Great Depression if credit contraction happens. Which today we’ve had massive credit contraction just like the end of 1920s. I used to think politics controlled the economy. Obviously Biden being against oil makes sense why Saudi Arabia is being better friends with China. I have a lot of respect for Mitt Romney and I do believe he is a man of integrity, but he outlined exactly the problem with today’s Republican party with a simple comment: “I come from the party of Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, John Mccain…” Those men, particularly the first three he mentioned, laid the groundwork for American politics today. They may have had a more respectable appearance to the outside world, but the policies they actually put in place hurt millions of people and endangered the most vulnerable communities in our nation. They contributed to the dissolve of social programs that uplifted the poor and pumped all that money into a military industrial complex and police state that has become a blood thirsty monstrosity terrorizing innocent people all over the world, even within our own nation. That was their true character- not the polite presentation they performed on television. Trump may be unbearable, but he is the personification of the ugliness these Republican policies have always represented starting with Reagan. That’s why his supporters like him. He isn’t afraid to say and do what they all secretly want to say and do but were too afraid to because they wanted to be perceived as polite even if they really had no compassion for the poor, no concern for people of color or immigrants, and had no desire to achieve equality in this country. He is the truth of what most Republicans really are deep at the core, hidden underneath all that well written, elusive, neoliberal rhetoric. What good are niceties and cleverly worded speeches when it’s only a cover up to push a racist, misogynist, imperialist agenda?
