My parents were married there and my brother and I attended the school in the 50's and 60's. Such a beautiful church. I remember our class visiting the catacombs for a tour. May God continue to bless St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, such an historical treasure.

Since when? A Temple of Yahweh is holy because of His Presence not because of any symbols. And in the case of a Christian Church it is because of His promise that whenever two or three are gathered He is there in their midst. Tabernacle or not our Churches are holy. In 1981, I was in a professional men & boys choir and we performed at St. Patricks Cathedral on Christmas Eve. In fact, during that Christmas Eve performance: at the front left of the large gold architectural piece above the alter [I can't recall the name for it], my brother and I sang a duet of "Silent Night" -in German. Talk about crapping your pants at 10 & 11 years old!

Besides singing at St. Patrick's in NYC, we also performed at St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal, The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, in D.C. It would mean great change to go back to the Real Truth. Nice but the original St. Patricks Cathedral deserves at least a mention. Consecrated in 1815, it became a minor basilica in 2010. St. Pat's Old Cathedral on Mulberry was the end point of the St. Paddy's Day parade from 1815 to 1830 and was the seat of the archdiocese until 1879.

The original Saint Patricks cathedral is in Ireland and has 800 years. It is not even catholic. It is an Anglican Church. If you study a bit of church architecture, you would know that this church with gothic style has strong bottom and very light ceilings to avoid disasters. I am surprised that people doing the restauration did not know that the ceiling was made of plaster and wood. Any quick research in google or you tube in how gothic church/cathedrals are build you will know that. I work in a cathedral in Ireland and its weird to know that they did not know that.

Well, I’m glad they’re keeping up with the maintenance but I really HATE the way it looks now... 😞 It looks like a damn Mormon church! The gothic charm is in the staining, the shadows, the weathering, etc. Yes I know it’s only neo-gothic, but I still think it looked better before.

Lydia Bergeron changing the color and lighting can change the entire look of something without the use of a single power tool. It doesn’t just look like a cleaner version, it looks like they knocked the old church down and made a new one out of glass and plaster. Have you ever been to Disney world? Or the Vegas strip? Or universal studios? Have you seen how they try to do an architectural style without building it how it’s supposed to be built so it just looks like a fake movie set piece? That’s what this church looks like now. It’s tragic. They could have at least done some intentional staining with paint to maintain the look, but I guess they prefer something artificial. 😞
