Tom Selleck on "Blue Bloods" and his memoir, "You Never Know"

The hit CBS drama "Blue Bloods" is set to end this year, but there's been pushback on that, most notably from star Tom Selleck, who over 14 seasons has played the head of the NYPD (and the head of a very headstrong family). He talks with correspondent Tracy Smith about his desire to continue "Blue Bloods"; about his pioneering '80s crime show "Magnum, P.I.," which put him on the map (and which kept him from playing Indiana Jones); and how he got Frank Sinatra his last acting gig.

However, I am also disappointed to see him appear as the official spokesperson for those tacky and misleading reverse mortgage commercials. Mr. Selleck hardly needs the money he received from those deceptive tv commercials. Of course, good guy Henry “The Fonz” Winkler also appeared as a spokesperson for those highly questionable reverse mortgage advertisements. That is decidedly: “UNCOOL!”

I am a “late bloomer “ my friend told me about it and …OMG, I’m now hooked on “Blue Bloods” I watch the reruns on ION TV every Wednesday..I absolutely luv that show! I worked in Wardrobe on a tv movie in 1978 titled "The Gypsy Warriors", with Tom and James Whitmore Jr. Tom was a delight to be around. I remember he and several cast and crew members talking and laughing about that new comic they saw on tv recently named Steve Martin. Just as Tom did I hear Steve Martin went on to have a successful career too! 😂

Wow, I’m sure you don’t care how silly you sound. I was in my teens when my ‘great show’ M*A*S*H, went off the air. It went off the air at least partly because they’d run out of story ideas, and how to present them. It’s entirely possible Blue Bloods is having the same problem, plus as someone in another comment thread for this video said, the actors are aging, and i suspect some of them want to ‘move on.’

Selleck is one of few the Hollywood actors that knows to keep his mouth shut regarding social issues. He may be the most liberal guy in town, or he may be ultra conservative. Either way, because he doesn't run off at the mouth, his popularity has spanned a very long and interesting career. Love watching him "at work". Always makes me believe the character is real.

There's a legendary story in my family. Around 1980/1981, my cousin, who then & now lives in Hawaii where "Magnum PI" was being filmed, caught the eye of Tom Selleck & he supposedly asked her out. The "legendary" part is apparently she wasn't interested & turned him down.
