I REALLY HOPE CBTC comes to the Broadway, since they STILL use the old R46, and R68 trains on the N Q and W lines. Those trains are old, as well as the signaling technology, not gonna lie. They used to use R160 trains on the N Q and W lines, but unfortunately swapped the 46s from the R line, since they are using the 160s for CBTC testing I think on QBL. But I REALLY DO HOPE that NTT trains come back onto the N Q and W, so we can get to hear those cool automated announcements again. I'm from LA and not NYC, but I've been to NYC once in 2015, and got interested into their subway system ever since.
@ishrakkhan554121 күн бұрын
The R160s are permanently staying in Jamaica Yard for QBL CBTC. It is expected though that the R46s from the N, Q, and W will be replaced by the displaced R68s from Concourse, as the D will be getting R211s. Additionally, some R68/As might be displaced from Coney Island Yard as well. So you might be able to expect some new techs on the Broadway line in the near future!

@@R323838 that’s for now though. Keep in mind Jamaica has a surplus of CBTC equipped R160 cars. They have the most cats assigned out of the entire system. The R179s are currently running on QBL to ONLY do CBTC testing so that the MTA can see how well they perform on 8th ave and Fulton St line CBTC. And also, the M’s R179 is not based out of Jamaica Yard, but rather ENY just like the R160s. So that might mean if anything, the M’s R179s might be permanent

Also, if the broadway lines are going to get CBTC, the Q needs to have all NTTs as well. I believe that either some 160s from Jamaica will move to Coney Island or new 211s will arrive there, where the B will get all NTTs and some will go to the N/W and Q trains. When Broadway CBTC is going to begin, it will definitely start on the Astoria line because QBL got CBTC before 8th/6th ave so maybe in the future the N/W lines will be full of NTTs again and the Q trains will stick to all 68s until the R268 comes in like 10-15 years.

@@de-fault_de-fault that's how you end up spending 2 billion for a mile, You have to restart the process all over again and you have to hire experts and consultants from other countries, etc. People lose their minds when Amtrak is not profitable, but they never had the money to invest to upgrade and create high speed lines. The issue now is that private companies are picking up the most profitable routes (LA to Las Vegas) to make money instead of Amtrak building those lines to fund others less profitable routes. I really don't understand their selections. The J and M between Essex St and Myrtle Av-Bway would've made sense because that's where the maximum throughput is, but instead they chose a section where no other trains interline along with the J. On one hand, the Rockaways should be very low on priority because MTA refuses to run more trains, but on the other hand that's a lot of mileage where they'll save on maintenance. Hopefully the 5-month closure of the Rockaway lines comes with new bridges that don't open for boats, eliminating delays as well as allowing 50 MPH speeds for far longer. The Broadway line flabbergasts me. They won't have enough R211s to retire all R68s - at which point, why retire R68s at all? They may be old trains, but they'll allow added frequencies across the N, Q, and W lines. And through all of this, Central Park West won't get CBTC even though the A, B, C, and D trains interline here and then again further down south. I'll end by pointing out that the previous capital plan originally had a small section of the Astoria line slated for CBTC, but they changed their minds later on.

CBTC does not increase service level capacity. The MTA's predecessors (TA and BOT) operated 20% more trains per hour on the Flushing and 14th Lines. That's 36 vs. 30 tph on the Flushing Line and 24 vs. 20 tph on the Canarsie Line. The BOT operated 42 tph on the Third Ave El before 1950. There were special situations, where the BRT/BMT operated 66 tph on the Brooklyn Bridge and 52 tph on the Williamsburg. One question the MTA refuses to answer is what CBTC's service level capacity would be and how it compares to what it will replace. Can you answer this question? One big downside to CBTC is that its useful service service life is only 25 years. The Canarsie Line's CBTC installation should be slated for replacement before 2030. Replacement parts are already difficult to find. This is because the electronics is constantly changing.
