There will NEVER be anything close to these guys ever again. Simply outstanding.Everyone who was lucky enough to see them play agree 100 percent.Made all other teams look like a bunch of children. They started off slowly, and if the other team started to catch up they changed gear and made like 3-4 goals in 7 minutes which devastated my team completely... :D

The red army team was fearfully talented and awesome. Once in a lifetime...the passing and motion was from another world. The bigger ice surface was made for them. There were two golden ages in hockey - the second was 70's to 80's. I look back and feel so privileged to have seen the red army team play along with the great NHL teams of that era, as the two styles merged into what we have today. The greatest sport in the world to me, comprised of a humble spirit that defines hockey players. And they all thirst for the NHL. Then...and now..

I'm new to hockey, but applying my knowledge from football, the Soviets remind me of the Spanish football team in how they play, move off the puck, etc. Its amazing to watch.

Let me give a concrete example, to hopefully make young people better understand what it was like :-) Imagine that you are watching your country (in this case Sweden) play agains CCCP in an important match. Whenever there was was a 2 against 1-situation (2 CCCP players pushing towards the opponent's goal, with only 1 defender remaining), it was a over 75% probability that CCCP would score. All the time, throughout the entire match. See for example 4:18. Or the charge that starts at 5:22. It's like watching your favorite team being overrun by a machine.

Fetisov, Makarov, Larionov, Krutov, Kassatonov. Click, clack, click, clack. I remember the commentator's voice like it was yesterday. I'm Norwegian and when CCCP played hockey, we didn't even care about politics and the cold war. All you could do was admire. Then transatlantic hockey took over and it just wasn't the same anymore.

Bob Gibson wish granted, my man. I was unashamedly rooting for "the olympic athletes from russia" this last olympics. Yeah they dont have a drill sargeant like tikhonov, but they didnt need one. The "soviet reunion" is only in its infancy, so they played kinda sloppy, but still won the gold anyway. There was still the near-telepathic passing only russians can do. I guarantee theyll be much more polished next olympics. I cant wait

Those teams played hockey the way it should be played----A standard of excellence that will always be there to aspire to, even for today's players and teams. They are role models for some great teams that followed---especially Detroit's Cup champions over the last 15 years, who play that hi-tempo "swarming style", established by Detroit's Igor Larionov-led "Russian Unit" in the mid-late 1990s. A direct descendant of the CCCP-system. Those CCCP teams changed hockey forever.
