Florida Highway Patrol air brake system inspection at Sneads weigh station on Interstate 10

FHP Trooper Bobby Simmons and FHP Trooper John Sewell inspect several brake components on tractor-trailers ahead of the June 4-6 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance International Roadcheck blitz. The top three out-of-service violations for last year’s blitz were for brake systems (28.4 percent), tires and wheels (19.1 percent) and brake adjustment (16.3 percent).

A driver can check only so much on a daily Pre Trip Inspection, companies are squeezing you for every second, neglecting proper intervals of maintenance, a driver complaint is never heard, you hook up to so many different trailers and change so many trucks it's just not realistic to be able to inspect everything to this level, but you sure do sign your name and you sure do pay the fines and you sure have a record on your CVOR and you sure can't get a good job after someone elses neglect costs a driver dearly. Fellow drivers will understand this. This DOT officers should visit Trucking company fleet yards and inspect trucks before the driver sits in it and write tickets to the company.

CVE Trooper Simmons pulled me over a few months ago in Lynn Haven, FL. He's a very nice guy who was very informative and cares more about the education and saftey of drivers on our roadways than trying to bust people. He's definitely not out to get people he just wants everyone to be safe.

Every truck stop needs a pit like this so truckers can actually do a post trip inspection and find some of those pesky things they skip on pre-trips. I'm thorough on my pretrips but people look at me weirdly. I have pulled so many bad trailers that got fixed cause I'm the one who took the time to report it and bring it to the shop.

Sometimes I go around Sneads if the coppers are present on the trucker path app. Easy go around.

How come not a single state does random vehicle inspections on cars? They dont seem to worry about a loaded mini-van full of kids running on bald tyres.
