Thanks James for this!! You really are the first person to thoroughly explain the difference between Network+ vs CCNA. I’m now studying for Network+ and was thinking how do I setup a VLAN, how do I configure this, etc.. and you explained that CCNA teaches you. Haven’t heard anyone else state this in their videos!

Correct! accurate information, especially in regards to the difficulty delta between the two exams. Cisco is the benchmark and all other vendors us the same cli commands, with the exception of Juniper which requires "commit" to confirm commands. Vendor specific is always more appealing to hiring managers than broad vendor neutral offerings. CompTIA exams are designed to be a low barrier to entry, theory only exams. Sec+ is useful as a DoD requirement.
@Jamesytech229 ай бұрын
Yep I agree that the DOD reqs are useful by getting Comptia certifications. But once you get the net+ you can go for one of the vendor specific ones.

CCNA is mandatory to be able to apply for some network engineers jobs in my state. Both CCNA and Sec+
@Jamesytech229 ай бұрын
That doesn’t surprise me! The State of Ohio where I’m from is all Cisco networking. Thanks for the input.

I got my A+ and my boss recommended the network+ next so i have been studying it for a while but with such thory heavy stuff, i feel like i haven't been able to grasp it as well so i started looking to packet tracer labs to see how it works and i found jeremys it labs. Got the udemy CCNA cus it was cheap and now i think im gonna oivot becasue i have learned more with the labs understanding network topics through configuration than i ever did with network+
@Jamesytech222 ай бұрын
I can understand that and if I was in your situation I would probably do the same. Most employers will see CCNA and will already know that you at least have some basic knowledge on CLI configurations. Good luck on your journey and let me know how it goes!

I haven't taken A+ but I have taken Sec+ and studied for ccna. In my experience the CCNA is extremely practical and hands on while comptia is very conceptual. Ive heard people say you can take an A+ or network+ course just to prepare for ccna and that seems true. Regaurdless you learn most of the fundamentals in ccna and can do it with no experience. Most classes do move extremely fast for someone with no experience but they do cover everything even for complete beginners.
@Jamesytech22Ай бұрын
I see what you're saying. I think that those courses can help you learn networking fundamentals but will not fully prepare you for the CCNA. I think it's a good start for someone who wants a solid networking foundation before you get into the nitty gritty configurations. However, if you're able to find a self-paced CCNA course where you can learn the concepts, then do labs, I think that learning experience would be much better.

Ccna is not entey level cert but a very good network cert start net+ first then go from there
@parker73724Ай бұрын
It's considered an entry level cert because it teaches fundamentals. It's an extremely complex entry level cert but still an entry level cert.

I have done jncia junos after i ve confused like wat to do next ccna or network plus for entry level position in networking role
@suhaibsiddiqui75509 ай бұрын
Honestly I have a Network+. The advice that HR always views CCNA better is not true. For example Network+ is DoD complaint ANSI accredited and covers important learning concepts such as DNS and DHCP (hint hint) to a depth that CCNA does not [from my friends who have taken it.] Anecdotally I have landed a job with this cert!!!
@Jamesytech229 ай бұрын
Yeah Network+ is a popular cert that you can land a job with. I believe the CCNA can be leveraged well in interviews by doing hands-on networking. But not all jobs require all of that networking knowledge. Thanks for watching!
@RjcuatrocincoКүн бұрын
Woah what DoD jobs are you applying for? In my organization CCNA is a minimum to do any networking. With Net+ they just throw you in help desk until you get your CCNA.

Network+ is a useless cert. CCNA carry’s some value proving that you have the hands -on to configure. The Network+ is just theory. Cheers!

Yeah I definitely think it's good for learners to work towards a credential but it's definitely not as in-depth.

Im trying to land my first job in IT in order to build some experience in an IT role and transfer into Cyber security or Networking. I have the Google IT support and Cyber certificate should I go for the NETWORK+ SEC+ or the A+? Kind of confused what the best route would be to land a decent paying first IT role!! Any suggestions from people with experience in IT would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! BEST of LUCK to EVERYONE!!
@Jamesytech224 ай бұрын
The natural way of getting those 3 certs would be the A+, the Net+, then Sec+. If you already know basic IT things then maybe skip A+
