This was never a single hit by CCR to my knowledge, but maybe I have forgotten. the short version does nothing for anyone compared to the full length album version. But the album cut [Cosmo's Factory] that FM radio played over and over....in 1970. Now you often hear it on the corporate classic rock playlist. Someone faded this out, it's about 11 minutes long.

I'm so glad you guys are checking out CCR! They are one of those classic bands that has completely stood the test of time. I think you guys would really like their song I Put A Spell On You (another cover they did). And just so you know, you listened to the extremely shortened version which cuts out some amazing instrumentals that I think are the best part of the song. You might want to listen to the full thing on your own time to get the full experience. Keep it up ya'll, and shout out to you Berto!

The recording and release of the various versions of this song were all over the place. The first to record it was Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Marvin Gaye recorded it next. Finally, Gladys Knight recorded it and was the first to release it. Smokey Robinson’s version was released just second followed by Marvin Gaye’s. CCR made their version in homage just a few years later. So the question of who was the original artist is never easy as depending on what criteria you use it can be either Smokey Robinson or Gladys Knight.
@moonlitegram
@moonlitegram 2 жыл бұрын
I guess since none of them wrote it, probably best to just tip the hat to the original songwriters, Whitfield and Barret and then appreciate each recording in its own right vs trying to worry about who should get credit as the original artist. Although CCR's version was a clear cover (and a good one at that).

Going into sixth grade.....I remember my teacher had this gorgeous long, black hair and - looking back on it now - a definite hippie vibe about her. I remember one of her first in-class assignments to us was, "Write about what song was your favorite over the past summer." Right up my alley! My ultra-cool uncle had given me a copy of Cosmo's Factory the previous May, and I discovered the long version of this song. All that summer I kept coming back to that song, that JAM, and so I wrote about this song. The next day at school she had a tote bag with her, I noticed, and during the last period of the day she called me up to her desk (the other kids were talking/studying/looking at the clock longingly). I thought, "Aww, shit, what did I do NOW?" and was surprised to see that the tote bag was full of vinyl albums, mostly CCR and some others I can't remember (except Steppenwolf's "Monster" was definitely among them). She had this really surprised, pleased look on her face and asked me, "You *really* like Creedence Clearwater Revival?" I said, yes, of course I do. Then she gave me the tote bag and said, "I want you to take these records home and listen to them. They are important." She asked what other bands I liked, so I said Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, The Doors, The Yardbirds, Grateful Dead, The Kinks, Deep Purple, etc. etc. etc. You see, most - if not all - of the other kids had written their essays about Duran Duran or Pat Benatar (Here I am, showing you my age 😁). She was shocked and more than a little surprised that an 11-year old kid was into the music from "her" generation. It's funny, I moved away not long after, so I was only in her class for a few short months. I will never forget her, though, because she was a positive influence on me and encouraged me to keep listening to great music. Ok, if you're still with me, thanks for reading my book!

CCR … its pretty hard to go wrong with them. Pick any track from any album, and it’s practically a guarantee you’ll love it! The last couple albums were getting less consistent, but anything before that was 100% gold! There are some more popular songs, but really, theyre not that much better than the others, as the others are pretty equally good! Personal faves are Midnight Special, Run Through The Jungle, Ramble Tamble, Night Time Is The Right Time (Ray Charles cover), I Put A Spell On You (Screamin Jay Hawkins cover), Green River, Effigy, It Came Out Of The Sky. You owe it to yourself to check out the full 11min version of Grapevine. The shorter radio version might stick close to the original, but that extra 7minutes of noodling is pretty phenomenal… you wont regret it!

One of my all time favorite songs is Long As I Can See the Light by CCR. You should listen. It's amazing. It is one of the most soulful songs you'll hear.

That guitar solo is actually cut from about a 10 minute guitar jam. When you have time vying should look up the extended version.

This was originally a #1 hit for GLADYS KNIGHT and the PIPS, in 1966. It was written for Motown by Norman Whitfield and Barret strong. It was then recorded by Marvin Gaye, and finally by CCR. They all had a hit with this song, although none of the performing artists wrote it.

Hi guys! Love your reviews! You guys might want to watch videos of some live performances and have the lyrics aside. It’s so amazing to see the artists play those songs. Keep it up!

Marvin Gaye’s classic version was also a cover. Gladys Night & the Pips first released this one. Both were hits, with Marvin’s becoming the definitive. This was the radio version. The full length version by CCR is a real treasure with excellent instrumental section and solos that make it worthy of a listen!
