Luke Costello: at 1:19 in the video, see how the blue sensitive cones are activated by light that is far to the left of chart, and the green and red are close together on the right? Cyan is an activation of the green and blue cones, and sits in between those crests. blue is just a little bit over to the left, but red is waaaay over on the right. It’s the difference in wavelength.

@backtothefuture1066 Actually he is 100% correct. There is no real color in the outside world. There are only frequencies of electromagnetic radiation, just like frequencies of sound from low to high. The colors we see are our own brains "painting" visual labels onto our internal 3D model our brains build inside itself. It is much like a weather map where cold areas are falsely painted blue and warm areas are falsely painted red in order to give more visual meaning to raw data. in the case of our vision, the raw data is simply various frequencies of radiation. There is nothing intrinsically "yellow" with 570 nm wavelength of radiation other than that is what our own brain labels it in our own mind.

@backtothefuture1066 well its true. not to sound like jayden smith, but color only exists because our eyes are there to perceive it. if we had no eye, there would only be the wave. its not like say a tree, that would exist whether it was perceived or not

This is a free video! There are tons of filmmaking courses that don't do as good as yours and which you pay for it! The explanations correlated to the animations is mindblowingly educative. I love it with my heart... and my brain

Just wanna give Captain D here a little recognition. The amount and quality of animation in this video is unbelievable. I don’t even wanna know much time those and even the sound design take up. I know the feeling of wanting to get a perfect result, instead of finishing the project in less time and having a (only) good result. I hope he doesn’t overwork to much for this. Love ❤️

I think in many ways this is The Captain's best video yet - the 3D animation of the waveform is mind blowing.

Except CD actually knows what he is talking about and is a pioneer in his field. Comparing him to Bill Nye is like saying Pitbull is just like Whitney Houston. Same general actions, wildly different skill and passion level.

Silver mask? Silly - that's his natural robotic exterior - the mask is the weird tan stuff on top of his head that burned off halfway down for some reason.

Side note: when Isaac Newton was unifying the gravitational force* on Earth with the force* that makes the planets orbit the Sun, he also went ahead and invented (discovered?) a new form of calculus because the existing methods either lacked the precision to predict planetary motion or the simplicity to articulate that motion in existing terminology. Can you imagine that? You're trying to solve a problem, and you know that math can solve it. But you look at all of the existing math, and nothing works. So you make your own. OK, granted, that actually happens a lot. Long division, cross products, the mathematical concept of zero, the real-world applications of the imaginary _i,_ etc. People have invented new types of math for eons. But this guy did that as a stepping stone so he could do the other things he's more famous for. That's what's so impressive. His other achievements were so noteworthy that we basically forget that his contribution to TWO core curricula persist to this day. * Einstein's more compelling new hotness tells us that gravity isn't a force at all. I'm using the term "force" for simplicity here. Plus, if you're not going very far, or very fast, or traveling for very long, and if you're not very small, the force model usually makes adequate predictions.

Interestingly he wasn't the only one that actually figured out calculus at the time! Gottfriend Leibnizz actually almost simultaneously figured out the derivative and calculus and it is actually his notation we now teach our kids! (d/dx) where the apostrophe notation of Newton get's messy easily. To pile on this but totally irrelevant., it was also Leibniz that said that his time when they were alive was the best time to be alive, which triggered Voltaire to write Candide as critique on Leibniz' philosophy. It's a 184 page book that you can read in a day and be amazed how easily it's parsed. Absolute recommendation for anyone!

Didn’t Newton also stare at the sun for as long as possible “just to see what would happen”, and also stick a needle in his eye for a similar excuse?
@tom_something
@tom_something 4 жыл бұрын
@@ciaranpmryan Yeah, he used some kind of stick-thing to go around his eye to prod at the retina. In addition, he seemed to chase after an alchemical method of making gold. That particular one seemed to be a dead end. But this was about 200 years before we started to really _get_ how chemistry works.

It should also be noted that Isaac Newton only tackled gravity because Hooke and some other early scientists were arguing about why the planet's orbits were elliptical and Newton used the plague quarantine to tackle the problem and settle the matter. Hooke bullshitted that he knew the answer but would leave others "the pleasure of discovering it for yourselves". Boy was he surprised.
