I think youre right, i bought an AWS5 a few months ago and the screen is allready full of micro-scratches and a really deep one, but I havent hit it with something or let it fall, the apple quality has been diminishing sadly...

Just got my AW S7 a week ago. I notice the scratches after cleaning it with microfiber cloth before putting the case on. Wtf! I barely used the watch before the case arrives. So disappointed with its new crack resistant glass.

You’re absolutely right. Just got my Apple watch series 5 over the holidays and it already has several scratches on the screen. Only reason I was willing to pay the amount I did for the watch is because I was expecting premium quality all around. Sadly that’s not what I got so I will be returning my series 5.

Absolute truth. I bought my Apple Watch Series 6 a few months ago and put a screen protector on it. Couple weeks ago I decided to try and wear it without it to see how durable it is since Apple constantly advertises how their screens are so scratch-resistant. Well, not even a week later I get this huge scratch on it without even realizing it. Now I see several more, less deep scratches starting to appear. Apple quality is a joke, the screens have absolutely no real protection against scratches. I think I will be selling my watch just because of how easily these are damaged due to the poor quality of the screens.

I am using the aluminum Apple Watch Series 5 since middle July. Today, I took it with me to an outdoor swimming pool and scratched the glass really badly on a plastic rail… PLASTIC! How is plastic harder than glass?! I just don’t understand… My Apple Watch Series 2 never had such issues.

When i upgraded to the series 4 , I gave mine a glass screen protector and a catalyst casing . When it came out yo be sold . The things was immaculate with not even a micro scratch . My 5 and 6 have inherited the same casing for over 2 years

Don't buy aluminum models with ionx glass that scratch at breaks easily, so you get sapphire glass in stainless steel, titanium and ceramic models. Also the worst band is milanese loop since it scratches the watch esp. the back

Just buy apple care, use your Apple Watch as you would and if it gets badly scratched, smash it and pay the $40 excess fee to get w brand new watch. It’s a watch which you wear, they’re gonna get scratched. But if scratches really bother you, just buy a plastic screen protector and if you smash it you’re covered under Apple care. Simple.

I agree, I upgraded from a series 2 aluminium to a series 5 aluminium and I got a hairline scratch 1 year in, which I did not get any on my series 2. I’m hoping they will address this issue with the series 6.

Thank you for posting this!! I thought I was crazy! I got a brand new watch for Christmas series 5. Within 3 days I already had a pretty big ding in the screen. Unacceptable! I returned it to Amazon, waiting for the refund. Meanwhile my series 1 is great, has a couple of scratches but I wore it for 4 years so that’s to be expected. But 3 days!!! Insane. So disappointing.

Always go for DLC coated apple watches and sapphire glass although not yet like other Sapphire and you won't have a problem for more than 3 years wearing it naked. Also black milanese loop is DLC coated so it scratches the apple watch....never to DLC coated straps and loops. SS silver can be easily polished. Series 6 now is so easy to replace the screen using iFIXit and also the battery...so easy. Or crashguard nx for aluminum models if you dont buy edition models or if you have extra cash, just pay for apple care+. Never wear aluminum models naked. Edition apple watches rarely have any problems but they do exist esp for gold ss.

I have the same problem on Apple Watch 4 44 mm. Started with a hairline crack in upper left corner. Now I have 3 deep scratches in that area and some scuffs on the other side. Apple won’t give you any rebate either toward a new one.

I totally agree - I had a stainless series 2 until the screen popped off due to the battery issue you mentioned. I hit it unintentionally often and hard on door jams etc....it looked brand new, sans the screen popping off. I have already had to replace my aluminum series 5 once with a major screen crack after only one drop. My new one has scratches that really bother me as well after a few months. It's infuriating!

Absolutely agree about the lack in quality. I purchased the SE and I already have scuffs on all for corners. For the price I paid I should have have went for the Garmin or paid less and purchased the Amazfit or Fitbit (better quality). Lesson learned, I am going to have to live with the scuffs and purchase screen protectors.

I don’t live in the USA, the price mentioned is what I paid in my countries currency. Price is also irrelevant, nobody should be purchasing a device with this quality of screen. I put a screen protector on right after this video and surprise surprise 6 months later the 13$ screen protector is still in near perfect condition. The Apple Watch series 4 and 5 quality control is piss poor and no wise consumer should buy one. Apple Watch 1,2 and 3 were fine. Buy a 3 if you want a good watch, if you want complete trash buy a 4 or 5.

I'm 74 and I've been using Apple products since the Apple IIGS. This is my first major complaint about an Apple product. I've had an iWatch7 for a few months and there are numerous deep scratches on it. I remember when the iPhone screens would get scratched in my pocket from my keys but no longer. Why don't they use the same glass on the iWatch? There's NO WAY TO REPAIR IT. A $700 watch should be repairable; it's not a throw away item! I'd not advise anybody to buy an iWatch.

Eh..I just got a 44mm S5 and obviously it’s going to scratch..companies over exaggerate durability all the time. Got myself a $15 plastic film screen protector from Best Buy and have had no problems and I work at Walmart where I’m constantly banging it on carts, shelves, etc....it’s like 3% the cost of the watch for a great screen protector lol. No air bubbles and it feels almost identical to the watch screen.

Christian Fuchs neither, I never scratched the watch, I got a protector right away because I knew it would get scratched without one. After about 2 months there are some visible dings in the protector, but when I peel the protector back, the watch screen is undamaged. Lastly, as far as covering up scratches, I don’t know how effective it would be; it would depend on the thickness of the scratch. Air bubbles tend to form on scratches, since the screen protector can’t fully seal over them, but it’s worth a shot. I’d still recommend getting a screen protector so the glass doesn’t get scratched further. I haven’t felt the need to buy a case to protect the aluminum edges, and I still haven’t scratched any of the aluminum even though I am not the most careful with it. Hope this helps
