I spent March 8th, 9th and 10th in Cebu. An expat would be very safe and comfortable here. The only two things i in was surprised about is the difficulty in having acces to a beach and the cost of food and eating out. Every bit as costly as in the US. All good beaches are privately owned.

When considering a retirement haven, traffic shouldn't be a major factor because you can avoid it. Major factors should only include wide options for medical facilities, wide variety of shopping and entertainment options, a wide variety of available recreational facilities (e.g. theme parks, botanical/zoological gardens, adventure parks, sports centers, etc.), easy access to both natural and man-made attractions, reliable and cheaper water sources and most of all, reliable and cheaper power. Dumaguete and the entire Negros Oriental is beset by brownouts almost every single day, if not daily, and it does for hours. Cebu rarely has brownouts and if it does, it only lasts up to an hour at a time.

I struggle with traffic, especially when driving. It changes my mood
@lionhearted19697 ай бұрын
@@PaulWorldZoom Who doesn't? But my point is, if you're a retiree, you're not going out every day like office workers do that you need to deal with traffic on a daily basis. So it's best to choose an area of a busy city that offers you easy access to most of the essential things you need such as medical facilities, malls, restaurants, markets, drug stores, etc. Because only big cities have the wide options when it comes to life's necessities especially if you're a retiree. Dumaguete or Bohol may have no traffic but they also have limited options when it comes to life's essential things and both suffer frequent brownouts and power rates are much higher. So it's best to carefully choose an area. Traffic is not at all a serious issue if you don't go out on a daily basis to work or study because there are more things to worry about than traffic. As I said, traffic can be avoided but frequent brownouts, high power rates, limited options in life can't be avoided.
@lionhearted19697 ай бұрын
I don't understand why traffic is a big issue for retirees when you don't travel every single day to go somewhere to work or something. Besides, traffic can be avoided if you're not working or studying or doing something regularly on a daily basis that you need to commute during peak hours when students and workers go to school or work. There's no point for retirees to go out at 7am, 8am, 9am, is there? When considering a place to live as a retirement haven, traffic may be a factor to consider but it shouldn't be a major one because you can avoid it by timing your errands or trips on essential stuff. You can also avoid traffic if you know how to choose the right location of your residence. Most condo residences in Cebu, especially the newer ones, are already built inside a mix-used complex or just within a walking distance to important establishments (school, church, commercial/entertainment centers, malls, etc.) so traffic shouldn't be a major issue. Traffic can be a major issue only if you go out on a daily basis to work.

It looks like any other western mall, both good and bad. Interesting for the 1st walk through, but after a few visits, it becomes yad da, yad da, and you never go back. I'm still trying to figure you out. It's just an interesting hobby for me, lol. Country vs City, I don't think you're cut out for the little provincial house, stuck between tricky realatives life. I see a downtown condo as a better fit. You can come and go with things to do, Sheila can visit when she can. I'm just spit balling here, but from my perspective keeping a definite level of separation between you two is a good thing. She has a successful career, and very likely is supporting realatives as is the normal Philippine way. Flat out, I'm done with marriage, don't see the point. Life is transactional, and it's not going to change. From my point of view, if she wants a little place in the middle of realatives, that's her prerogative. If she can afford to make it happen, good for her. Go visit as often as works for both of you. This idea that you should build a free ride future for your Filipina after you die is BS. She should live her own life and you yours. Share time together as you wish, but neither of you should give up your freedom or be responsible for the others' long-term future. I'm sure many will disagree with me, but guess what... I don't care. Being alone in your old age is not the end of the world. Some would even call it peaceful. Over the years, I've had my fill of people and currently have only a small handful of friends. None of which live on the otherside of a 12' fence in the backyard. That still irks me. Pardon me for rambling. Some times I'm just a crotchety old man🥸

Do enjoy the walk and talk videos. Cebu is definitely busier than Duma. You have to figure out what works for you. Iloilo City seems to be in between those two. Have you considered the Subic area or even Clark? Clark specifically looks appealing to me. All the Western amenities but in a more controlled setting. Sidewalks, traffic lights, open green areas, parks…
