I saw the northern lights when I was about eight years old. I’m 74 now I remember being frightened because I didn’t know what they were and my mother was so nonchalant about ….oh those are just the northern lights. The only time I got to witness them in my entire life. Now I live way too far south to ever see them. Happy birthday.

I'm the developer of Sky Guide, the astronomy app you're using in this video. It was a wonderful surprise to see you using it to identify stars and planets in this video! I've been obsessed with Svalbard (and the polar regions generally) for a quite a while and will be making my first trip there this April. Too late for the aurora borealis unfortunately, but much better for ski touring. Let me know if there's anything that would make Sky Guide easier to use from the high latitudes!

Seeing the vastness of the stars, the Northern Lights dancing above Earth…. Makes all that happens below this sky seem so trivial…. Nature is so big and glorious and we humans are not in control and yet, look what we choose to do…. To each other. We fight and hate for what?? Yet nature goes on despite mankind’s choices and displays her beauty in ways that take our breath away. We ought to feel small and in awe, not proud

I was in a store yesterday and they r getting rid of their Christmas stuff, on sale, and I saw a 5x7 little statue or figurine of a polar bear, not on sale, and I looked at the price and said I can't afford this, and put it back and walked away. Then I went back and said I have to have this, and bought it !! It was the only one there, and I don't even know why it was in that aisle. It is right under my tv, so as I watch your video I see the polar bear. So now I have a snow globe with a mama polar bear and 2 babies in it, from last year, and my new little statue. Hope Christoffer is feeling better, so glad you bought presents for each other, and thank you for this ever so colorful and peaceful Christmas video.

I lived in Anchorage, Alaska back in 1999-2000 and I remember one night some friends said it was a Northern Lights night and we had to go see them. We drove a few minutes out of town and laid down in the bed of the truck so we could truly see them in all their glory. They danced and wiggled across the sky in almost a ballet of green and white ribbons that were directly over us, I felt like we could see up in between the different layers. They truly are magical to behold and one of the best free shows that Mother Nature gifts us. Never miss a chance to see them in person, because as amazing as they look in videos or photos...seeing them in person is life changing.

I’m 60 and Australian, and I’ve never had a live tree, don’t know what one who does that here. I love our fake tree, we keep it up all year and decorate it for the different seasons and holidays - we even decorated it for Halloween this year! I really enjoyed the star and constellation info, could watch a whole video on that. Years ago I lived on Heron Island, located 80kms offshore on the Great Barrier Reef, and we used to lay on the beach and look at the Milky Way all night. I wish we’d had phones and apps back then like we do today, we would have loved identifying constellations like that! Thanks for the video, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

@sara_3872 күн бұрын
Grew up in Brisbane also. The first Christmas after arriving from Sweden in the 80s, we had a real potted Christmas tree. But we never did it after that. I believe it was a Norfolk pine, we planted it outside and it grew huge (as they do). I'm too worried about spiders and I've even heard stories about snakes hiding out in trees. Even when we lived in NZ, we had a real Christmas tree one year, and a spider made a home in the angel at the top of the tree.

Celelia, this is the most magical place on earth i have never seen the Northern lights in person and sadly i won't so i thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your wonderful view from your home. To live there and wake up daily especially in the polar night and be able to go outside and look up at that clear night sky and see all that is above us is such a blessing. To watch you be so amazed and happy to be able to see all that just shows what kind of person you truly are anyone can see you genuinely love everything about where you live. Your excitement is contagious i feel like I'm standing out there with you looking up at the sky seeing it welcome the holiest night of the year . That's what it seems to me the Northern lights decided to give the most vibrant light show leading up to Christmas Eve for it's present to everyone that could see it. If i could have one wish it would be to come there and see your hometown through your eyes. to be able to hike and stay outside for hours just drinking in all the beautiful night sky has to offer that would be a dream come true. Even though i know that can never be i can still enjoy seeing all this Beauty because of you taking the time to make videos and upload them. So from this 60 yr old woman that will never get to see the wonders of our beautiful world in person i can still experience all the Beauty from my bed it helps me keep my sanity so thank you again 🙏💛🙏🕊️💞

I love, love, LOvE that after eight years Stalvard still makes you giddy like a kid. I feel the same, but through my screen. Thank YOU for sharing your world with us mainlanders.

The northern lights with the bright stars look like a Christmas tree! So beautiful, I live in a rural area of Kentucky and often sit outside on a clear cold night and look at the stars. Seeing the northern lights in person, is on my bucket list.

HOME SWEET HOME, there is not better place than home (that is if there is no war going on in your part of the world or other misery) and I wish that to all good, kind people for 2025, in the whole world: a safe place that you can and may call: HOME!!! I wish for 2025 peace & joy on earth as much as there is in Cecilia's heart! Cecilia dear, Svalbard seems to me the ideal place to put in a magical snowglobe!! All the best from an old (rebel), Pinkie and lots of warm hugs!!!!
