When you aren't there to shovel the snow piles up and can freeze! Then it can be so hard to shovel! I used to live in the Sierras. At the end of 1991 I left to go visit my grandmother on the northern California coast after Christmas. The last day of our visit it started to snow there which was rare. It took us three times as long to drive towards home to the Mount Shasta area where we had friends because of the snow. We stayed at our friend's for two more nights because it just kept snowing, and the roads were closed. When we could finally drive home we arrived in our town to 6 feet of snow! It was one of the biggest snowstorms since the 1950's! We actually drove past our house because the neighborhood was so transformed. A neighbor boy had been taking care of our cat and created a path to the front door. We had to hire a snow loader to shovel our driveway because it would have taken a week to hand shovel it! That winter we had 22 more feet of snow in January which was a LOT for our area. Staying on top of shoveling the driveway was quite a chore! We had to hire the loader two more times when we had three feet of snow at once. When the walls of snow are 6-12 feet everywhere, it's a challenge to reach the top of the bank and find a place to put the snow! Last winter in the Sierras was a comparable heavy snow year. Those really big snow years don't happen often.

Surprisingly, Cecilia, I am envious of your gorgeous snow…. I live in the US Northeast and miss our real snowstorms (a foot or two was not unusual). I am not a fan of winter or snow, but I loved loved loved going out to shovel in the well muffled quiet of lots of snow - the more the better. The perfectly beautiful white snow, the sun and clear blue skies once the storm ended, the comfort of the lack of sound. I always felt like the world was clean and starting again. I am looking forward to your winter adventures again. And boat excursions. I do miss Linn and hope she is doing well.

You've convinced me to come visit Svalbard in the future around this time of year. I love the cold, dark but what really convinced me is that STUNNING pink / purple neon glow that shows up for a couple hours a day. We had over 11 inches of snow that has lasted about 3 weeks. Lots of shoveling!!!🌨❄❄❄❄But it's over and green is starting to emerge. Spring is close, although we usually get some snow in February. Hugs to sweetie pie Grim!😊

We have had a snow starvation here in Chicago, IL, this winter;( So I truly envy your dumping of snow.
