Removing the parking lots is absolutely a win-win-win scenario. Tons of room for coasters, less pollution, less eye-sore, no waiting in line for parking so you get to the park faster. Make a free monorail that connects an off-site lot, the park, hotel breakers, lighthouse point and the pier. It would be a huge improvement over their shuttle van system that sits in traffic. Add in a bike path and bike check near the entrance -- bike parking has a very small footprint. One of the reasons people love Disney is lack of cars.

Additional ways to create space: 1 - Multi-level parking garages 2 - Use airspace around other coasters, like Hershey Park did a ton of before their recent land acquisition. 3 - The Shoot the Rapids plot of land is still literally just sitting there. It's also right across from Cedar Creek Mine Ride, which has to be a removal candidate. 4 - Remove one coaster and build dueling coasters in its place if you want to increase the coaster count. 5 - All that water in the middle of the park is prime real estate for a potential coaster.

Now one thing to remember with roller coasters is that the main plot of land you need is for the station, brake run, transfer track, and maintenance shed, with some mid-sized bits for when it gets low and smaller bits for supports. Because steel coasters exist of a track with occasional supports there can be multiple built on the same plot of land crossing over each other and such, unlike, say, buildings. In each plot of land taken up by a roller coaster there's usually a lot of empty space; and if needed track of another coaster could always fill that empty space.

Here's what European parks do which American Parks are too dumb to realize: Just build the new coaster that crosses over or below other coasters. Phantasialand, Europapark and even Canada's Wonderland does that. Coasters just need space for Queue and Station, you can easily design a coaster to go around already existing rides or buildings.

Honestly I don't really see the space problem. They could a) build a parking garage like universal and save tons of parking space or b) just start building more compact and closer together coasters that interact with each other. Or they could even try to reclaim land from the sea or build a pier (missed potential for the boardwalk area there!). Also, there is still tons of backstage area that probably could be converted without operational issues for the park.

I’ve been saying this for years: think Morey’s piers in Wildwood, New Jersey. Cedar Point could add piers. But only if environmentally sound. Using the parking lot for expansion and building off site parking with free shuttle service (monorail, ferry or bus - or all three) would open up plenty of land for park expansion. Cedar Point could also learn lessons from Black Pool Pleasure Beach, Indiana Beach and even Moret’s Piers. They could construct attractions on top of attractions. Parking structures (expensive) can also provide more spaces for cars, especially close to Hotel Breakers. And what happened to the land where Sand Castles Suites once existed?
@Soonjai
@Soonjai 2 жыл бұрын
Sooner or later they need to take a some lessons from Gröna Lund in how to build stuff without having space. The Cedar Point way of thinking about this would of course be: How many interactions with other rides would get us the world record for that?

Every few years someone new says that CP is running out of room. People said they were out of room after Magnum was built since it went out of the park. Then time and time again they added more coasters. Someone else commented that Tony Clark said along the lines of “we have a lot more space than people think” and yes, they have plenty of room. Look at parks like Hershey whole coasters cross over and under each other, CP hasn’t even done a lot of that yet.

I wouldn't use Hershey Park as an example of good park layout. The center of the park looks like a game of RCT that has gone on too long. Seems like most of the rides budgets were blown on building the rides over each other and water features which left short roller coasters with odd straight segments of track everywhere.

I dont think they need to get rid of the whole parking lot, just some of it, maybe this would force some shuttle system for overflow days but the vast majority of people could still park on the point. They also could cut the Marina in half and get rid of that marina restaurant and pool. That pains me to say because I spent a ton of time in that marina as a kid, but the park makes more in a day then summer time docks make in a year.
@IRDeady

look at milli. A lot of the ride winds through the park and the parts that don't take up a skinny footprint for the most part. There are tons of spots in the park that could hold another milli station and there are a decent number of areas that could easily be reworked. nobody would miss kiddy kingdom and the arcade. the dead zone where dragster is can and should be expanded. there is some space on the outside of valravyn near the marina, there is an entire swath of parking lot in front of gatekeeper near the beach. they could ditch the cabins. and surely a whole bunch of other stuff that makes more sense than my ideas that someone gets payed hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to be aware of years in advance. this is one of the most valuable plots of land on earth, they aren't goon be just be like "whoops were out of space, didn't see this coming." also if you ever mention them demolishing raptor again I'm going to send you hate mail every day for the rest of my life. That idea should not even exist.

I think there is space available but they would need to move things off the peninsula. Namely I think the waterpark should be on the mainland (they have space by Castaway Bay to put it and also own like 40% of Sandusky). It's technically a separate gate anyway. Remove that and the parking lot by Magnum (or shrink it to just Breakers guests) frees up a lot of space. Also (not entirely related) I think Cedar Point should have a free shuttle for all their resort guests to the park (now it's just Breakers and Lighthouse Point, the two at the park. Not Express, Castaway Bay or Sawmill Creek) Edit: also Gemini isn't even the worst hybrid coaster at the park. That's the Mine Ride and I will not take any questions relating to its terribleness

I feel like they have several areas they could work with if they wanted to. Frontier town doesn’t really have any rides. It’s a petting zoo and shopping basically. The campground area could also be ripped out for park expansion if they really needed the space. You could build something over the midway on the right. It’s basically just shopping and restaurants from gatekeeper to corkscrew. If you build over the buildings that could make something big there. There’s also the parking lot for the water park. Magnum xl goes over that way, but it’s basically empty over there.

I like the mention of the wild mouse being a good addition. I feel the importance of small and mid-range rides goes unnoticed a fair bit. I love big roller coasters but I don't like riding them over and over again. I have recently gone to Kings Dominion in Virginia and Thorpe Park in the UK, and I enjoyed the former more not because of the top tier rides (which were great for both parks) but because Thorpe Park doesn't have rides like a wild mouse or a classic woody to just simply enjoy. I don't need or want the world's most intense experience every time I go on a ride.

Would it be completely out of the question to start filling in some of the lake? Thorpe Park do this but Thorpe used to be a quarry so the water probably isn't as deep as lake Eire and they own the whole plot of land including the water and i'm not sure if Cedar Point own any of the water surrounding the park so this might not work but it is a possible solution.

It would be. As Lake Erie is navigable water they would have to get permission from the feds, and that likely wouldn’t happen. Even if it's possible, I doubt they're going to do this. The federal regulation hoops they'd have to jump through would be pretty substantial if they can even work out a deal with the proper authorities. Also, it's probably cost-prohibitive and creates significant engineering challenges. My guess is if they legitimately run out of space in the peninsula to expand, they'll just find a spot to build out a whole secondary park on the mainland and bus people between them. The parks would be pretty spaced out, but that seems like a way more viable solution.

One thing that I think a lot of people forget about especially people who do not live in the tri-state area is, Cedar point is the only game in town and it’s a really good game. Believe that the arrow coasters will be on the chopping block soon to make room for the biggest/BADDEST/best. if you live in the metro Detroit area or even the state of Michigan in northern Ohio, Cedar point is the absolute only place that you go. I live in Michigan and every time I tell people that I’m going to Kings Island, they’ve either never heard of it, haven’t heard of it in years and didn’t know it was still there or think it’s too far to drive to because of Cedar point. I don’t think Cedar point has a space problem because they could of course do the parking lot suggestion that you recommended, which has been recommended forever. Or, they can just be a park that has the best roller coasters on the planet. I don’t believe if their brand is going to die at all.

CP's biggest problem is the stereotype that CF created for the park starting in the early 90s with their focus being the promotion of the park's coaster count and nothing more. Now it's an image they've kinda backed themselves into a corner on and has been a problem for the chain as a result because the other parks have suffered as a result and CF could make just as much money if they'd put their cap ex funding into their other parks as well.

Depending on what they do with Dragster, you could remove some/all of that, plus Corkscrew (which nobody rides), plus Iron Dragon (which nobody rides), plus maybe even Rougarou (which nobody rides, but they should) and you've freed up the ENTIRE MIDDLE THIRD of the park to put whatever the hell you want in there, and drop a theme on the area while you're at it to match Frontiertown and the Boardwalk

Gemini is so unique,, they should keep that. Magnum should go, it's just a small version of Mellenium. What they should do if they can get Dragster working again, is triple the length having it come off the hill add weave over through Mellenium. There's plenty of room over there. I mean right now dragster is a seriously kickass hill and nothing else, they could turn that into the greatest rollercoaster in the world by doing that. Another option, look up Hades 360 on KZbin, this little known ride is one of the coolest rollercoasters on the planet, and it was built underneath their parking lot. They could replace Blue Streak with something similar to that.

What if they just got rid of Soak City? It doesn’t pull that much of a crowd cause who goes to Cedar Point for the water park? The two times I was there, the slides were mediocre and there was no one there, and I also just wanted to go back into Cedar Point and ride the roller coasters. I personally think they should just get rid of Soak City and keep the water parks to the hotels like Castaway Bay or Key or whatever it’s called that has a pretty good indoor water park.

I think if they were going to utilize the parking lot, they should have done it in 2013 when they redid the main entrance and Gatekeeper. maybe they need to buy up a few dozen homes on the Chaussee, raze them and put parking there. that would eliminate the whole needing a bus problem however that doesn't eliminate the Gatekeeper problem. unless of course, you just push the existing main gate plus Gatekeeper forward but that just seems really expensive. also, property on the Chaussee is likely very expensive. they could maybe put a corridor down the one side of the parking lot. on the side where Blue Streak sits. maybe take like 1/4 to 1/3 of the lot on that side which would also include that picnic pavilion. maybe they need to consider going toward the marina as well

Fiesta Texas is going to have a similar problem with adding bigger coasters there just isn’t the room inside the quarry where it’s located. There is still room by the boardwalk area but it would be a really tight fit for anything large like a hyper. A giga sized coaster is out of the question and they have already stated that the quarry is too unstable to put coasters on so short of removing coasters or digging up the parking lot they are stuck.

That's my winter home park along with Seaworld SA. Fiesta Texas quarry is beautiful if you're going from November to March. The ride selection is meh though Iron Rattler is an upper-half RMC for sure. Also the dining pass food selection isn't good at Fiesta Texas, especially for 2023. No more wings on the menu (they took the ones at Bubba's in Crackaxle Canyon off the dining plan on 1/1/2023) and the only decent substantial non-junk food option is the half baked chicken at the food court (Sanger Halle, similar to the Kings Island Festhaus) but that restaurant is poorly operated and the drink refill station is missing some important drinks like the fruit punch and doesn't work most of the time. No Intamin presence at all at Fiesta Texas. Their big new draw is just a b&m dive.... snoozefest like valravn. Still an upper half Six Flags park, but overall a "B" tier park at best And yes, Sea World San Antonio is "D" tier.

build on the parking lot. Run shuttles from Cleveland and Toledo, build an elevated garage in Sandusky and run a shuttle from that. Collaborate with Amtrak to get a better connection with the Capitol Limited and the Lake Shore Limited. Build up the peninsula parking lot. Sure, those things I mentioned aren't free, but if the park can bring in more people and more revenue by getting rid of the on-island parking lot, it'l pay for itself.

they still have enough room for future expansions, if that were ever to become the issue they can build a multi level parking garage , or make a new parking area on the mainland with some kind of bus service , however i don't think this will ever become an issue , there is still a lot a of land left to build on if they want to , the real issue is probably more something like the investment cost and added maintenance costs of new "extra" coasters. already having 17 coasters , some of witch will need to be replaced sooner than later , it just doesn't make sense for cedar point to keep adding more coasters and attractions to the park. as much as everyone wants to see "extra" rides and coasters being added to the park , it just doesn't make any sense business wise, its not about growth but maintaining the 3.6 mil annual visitors they get and making more money from them , with better experiences , hotels , services , food etc

1. The bugs are absolutely the biggest problem. Taking Millennium Force at 90mph and having bugs splatter on your face but the ride STILL OPERATING is not okay. How much does it cost to terraform and expand their land? Axing the lot is a terrible idea and would definitely hurt attendance Would it be stupid to axe the water park/move it off-site? They're literally on a lake already... That's as crazy of an idea as getting rid of the kiddie rides... you'd push so many families away. We're talking 10m+++ for any significant expansion anyway. It's much more likely that we'll see Gemini, corkscrew, mine, or other aging rides taken down for space within a 10yr timeframe. Thinking much further into the future, rides should probably be designed to loop through eachother both to save space and create insane near-miss elements.

I also think that the idea of a preferred parking, and a normal parking accessible by monorail is not as crazy as you think... People do not have to drive through that road, so the access to highway is quicker. You free LOTS of space to expand. And also, the park looks more exclusive. Want to stay there or park there? Pay more. Want the standard experience? Take the monorail (wich can be build at the cost of a medium-sized project). Overall, it is not a crazy thought... More people than you think have the same thoughts, and I am pretty sure that some Cedar Fair minds have also that on the board...

Yup. get rid of the Parking lot and bus people. Buy land on the mainland and provide transportation to the main gate. The parking lot is literally a third of the size of the park. Build dedicated bus only lanes and run it every 5-10mins. And if you want to park closer to the park... make people pay for it. And build a parking garage for the people who want to be closer to the park.

I'd personally argue most of the problems listed here aren't problems for the chain at all. Cedar Point is a STACKED park, so stacked that new rides typically don't boost park attendance very significantly (at least according to the numbers I've seen). Cedar Point is a solid cash cow that performs great for the chain almost regardless of whether or not major attractions are added. This presents opportunities for Cedar Fair to put major investments into parks such as Dorney, Knott's and Kings Dominion which are located in more competitive regions of the country while Cedar Point continues to bring in reliable revenue. There's no need to be in a rush to tear down older rides before the end of their service lives in a park with so much to do; investments can be made elsewhere where there's more room for growth and ROI. This is perhaps idealistic or optimistic, but that would be my strategy if I were a major decision maker at Cedar Fair. I like the way you get analytical. Always a pleasure when you upload videos!
