All the tests I’ve done and seen, the BD1N is very close to S30V in edge retention. And actually better corrosion resistance for sure. But the real reason I actually love the BD1N MORE than the S30V is that it is probably the easiest steel to resharpen I’ve ever used. And stropping works wonders on it as well. I was skeptical but BD1N has completely won me over.
@mountaindont34ify4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I feel the same way. The first reprofile sharpening took a little while not like s30v but everyone after has been quick

Great review, I think your on point with the adjustments they made for that size blade for EDC. I think the Sage in C.F. and that blade would do battle for day to day, always on person choice. I was skeptical about BD 1N but if its edge retention is somewhat higher than VG10 and just a bit less than S30V then I find it a very interesting option for EDC. I thought I would not choose anything below SPY27 but it turns out that it is also slightly below the S30V edge retention and you have to pay more for it.

A great video. I was almost set to buy the Para 3 LW, but now will stick with my Salt 2 H1. All things being considered the Salt 2 H1 is built on the older Delica frame, before liners were standard, so is very lightweight, rustproof with a non-carbon hardened steel, (hydrogen) and a hollow, saber grind. The semi-wharenclif blade shape is also less "tactical" looking and the bright yellow FRN handle is not only easy to find if dropped in the grass, but also less threatening when used in a public place. This knife is so light weight that I removed the clip and just carry it in my pants pocket. Thanks for this video and a "hello from Canada" ...the comedic "throw your Delica away" video was also useful in reminding me that the compulsion to buy the newest is not always the "bestest". You are one of the very few "knife reviewers" who does really tell it as it is.

Hi Pete, is the Para 3 Lightweight UK Friendly, ie, compliant with UK laws re carrying knives in public places?
@deathbyastonishment79304 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I know this was an old comment but the answer is no. As far as I understand it your pocket knife mustn’t lock in the UK. It needs to fold freely like a slipjoint or a friction folder
@John..185 жыл бұрын
I think your clip needs some serious tightening, None of mine move around like that, !! Atb,...

I had to blue loctite and tighten my Para 3 LW clip from the factory. Not a big deal though since I have to go through that process when I disassemble & clean it anyway.
@slick_slicers5 жыл бұрын
This knife is so like the UKPK and the standard PM3 is uncannily like the the G10 HH version which has S30v. The obvious difference is that the UKPKs are slip joints, of course, but good to see that we are being offered up-to date designs here in Blighty! OR, is it that age old designs are being run out as new, cutting-edge cutters?

I own all 3, ZDP delica never gets carried but the Para 3 LW hasn't left my pocket in months. I kinda wish they would have gone with XHP on the P3LW, but honestly they feel pretty similar to me. Definitely won't be buying or recommending any more Delicas though. For the price they go for now, I think most people would be better served with this or the Chaparral LW. Thanks for the work that you put into these reviews! I definitely enjoy your commentary!

@daeholm5 жыл бұрын
You gotta hand it to Spyderco. They are by far the most business savvy knife company. They can take a single knife pattern and sell it again and again by changing out steels, handle materials etc. And people eat it up! Really triggers the collector's impulse.

Honestly i look at this knife and i notice right away, that the lanyard hole is on top, where your hand is. So if you put a lanyard in it it will most likely disturb the great grip this knife is is meant to offer. Same as on most bark river knives. I dont understand why they put it there and not to the bottom where it doesnt get in the way. I havent bought one and tried yet. But if i buy one its about 130 euros. And if this is an issue, then it wont be worth the money in my opinion

Not a Delica killer for me because of thicker blade stock. It's an intriguing knife and lots of people will love it but it's still a shorter PM2 which is a tactical or hard use knife. I'm looking forward to the Sage 5 LW to be a game changer in the 3'' range.
@EagleJim625 жыл бұрын

What are your thoughts on the compression lock being weak PM the para 3 lw? I've heard people say it's not good for baring down since pressure is going into FRN on one side and steel on the other?
@MrCrazyclown1455 жыл бұрын
I purchased the dlt exclusive. I pressed pretty hard while limbing a pesky mulberry tree. I put a lot of pressure in it and even made cuts with a bit of a prying motion. I could not feel the flex. It felt very confident in hand. After i felt blade play. After a couple flips i felt no blade play and none since.

I have to agree with you on hollow grind. I think for a folding knife / light duty knife hollow grind is the best grind. Even in most fixed blades it`s probably ok. I`d rather have the cutting performance than the stability, cause most things we do with knives involve cutting.
