I did look at that knife often and think about it a lot. But in the end, I did buy a number 3 blade from mora and gave it a nice long custom handle from cherry wood. It does not weigh a lot, is well balanced when gripping it traditionally, is very slicy, carves bigger stuff well, reverse grips well for plucking some greenery single handed, does nicely at light chopping and has a nice long straight cutting edge section that is good for light batoning when crafting stuff.

Mora’s AllRound series comes in ~8”, 6”, 4” variants, some stainless, some carbon. They’ve got my favorite Mora handle shape, nice thin blade stock, and the sheathes are Ok. The 8” and 4” SS are really good in the kitchen, and the 6” in carbon is excellent in the yard and woods.

I have the morakniv 748MG Allround 6", now discontinued. It's a little awkward in balance with the long blade. I love the full fat handle, and the sheath that's similar to the Mora2000 with a leather dangler. I use it like a pull blade sometimes, but it's pretty limited in its usefulness being so long and skinny. It's good for food prep and butchering, but it's understandable why they discontinued it.

Love the Bushcraft Black but never felt compelled to buy the Pathfinder. If I am going to buy a knife with a 6” blade it’s going to have a full tang. I think you are spot on that it is inspired by the Old Hickory 7” butcher knives. Dave Cantebury loves those things, or he used to anyway.

Yeah, this knife isn’t for me. But in order to shoot the sheath a little bail. At least they put grommets in each corner. Which means you can easily create a belt loop and dangler with Paracord or any piece of line. Bottom grommets to tie down to leg, or pack. Shout Joe X! Great Video, thanks.

The Kansbol is really nice as a camp knife. The thin front is good for cutting food and skinning and the full scandi bottom 2/3 is good for wood carving and stuff. I think it has the best handle of all the Moras, in that it is the shape of the Garberg with added rubberized areas. I wish they made it in the 14C28N steel instead of the 12C27.
@MB-jg4tr
@MB-jg4tr Жыл бұрын
Look into the Mora2000, the precursor of the kansbol. The handle is much better. The blade is almost exactly the same only it has a mirror finish and rounded spine. It's much more comfortable to use. And I like the basic sheath more which has a leather dangler riveted onto it. It's a little less expensive also. Best camp knife I've ever found.

Suggestion for the sheath Attach a heavy duty Caribeaner to it! The best part of the normal Mora companion Sheaths are that they cab clip onto your belt, or pocket or waistband if you dont have a belt on. The Carribeaner gives you the same advantages. You can clip it to your pocket or waistband, or feed your belt through it its what ive done to my other Mora sheaths. The Kansbol has just a belt loop, so i aded the caribeaner to that. The classic knives have a minimal sheath, so a small loop for cord or a metal split ring and a Carribeaner go on to those. If you have the less common Mora Allround series, they have a sturdy black plastic sheath and the bit of plastic that can clip onto a bottom, but not much room for a belt, so i put a cord and caribeaner on those as well. Basically all my non Companion knives have this, and it makes them all much much nicer to wear. Even just to clip into your wastband, and then easily unclip when needed.

I've only owned one Garberg. Still have it. I use it as a example of a knife that the majority of people seem to love, yet I don't care for it. Of all the Moras I've owned or tried a plain Companion is my choice every time.
@Tony-zp8xn
@Tony-zp8xn Жыл бұрын
I like the idea of the Pathfinder as a bigger knife, but over the years, I've gravitated toward smaller knives. It seems like a good choice for anyone who wants to Mora, but wants a little more of a Bowie style. My wife and I have several different Mora knives, and my absolute favorite Mora is the Mora 2000. The double grind is fantastic and it's excellent as a general camp/food knife; It's my go-to for food prep while camping. I think the Garberg is unnecessary and more than I want to spend on a Mora, but for the die-hard "It must be full tang and a fixed blade" crowd, it's fine choice. For a little reference on preference, since I got it back in 2017, the current Victorinox Soldier's knife is my absolute favorite of the 30+ knives I own because it's such a capable tool.

Nobody loves it, I get that but...I LOVE my Pathfinder. I grinded (apparently this is the correct tense) the "shoulders" off the scandi grind, and took off the black coating. I use it for all the knife sort of stuff you need when camping but this knife shines, truely shines when butchering. Yes, it looks like a big rugged butcher knife and it can do the work really well. I use mine most often when slaughtering, I bleed, mke the initial cuts in the hide and break up the carcasses with it in order to protect the more delicate butcher knives. As Joe found out, not the strongest of knives but it's light, manoeuvrable and it's got an excellent handle and steel combo. The Bushcrft Black is for most folk but the Pathfinder is for the weirdos.

I had no problems making a belt loop. Just put the long tabs through the upper hole thing and tighten when on belt. Alternatively use paracord or a carabiner. Worked fine, you absolutely don't have to buy a new sheath. That's just inventing problems instead of solutions. Anyway, big fan and fun video as always. I much prefer my 9 inch Sami knife anyway.
@mannihh5274
@mannihh5274 3 ай бұрын
I'm quite sure, they put on the secondary micro-bevel on purpose to make it a little more robust, the non-DLC-coated ones have it too. IMHO scandi-ground knives are really good only on wood-processing, for any kitchen tasks a full-flat is way superior. For an affordable big camp-knife I bought a Mora/Frost 1040CP, a real fish-butcher knife with a wide belly - as it comes without a sheath, I made one from PVC-piping.
