Hey Junkyard Fox! Well I’d be better off getting two Mora Kansbol instead of one Mora Garberg?
@adammcguinness9950
@adammcguinness9950 2 жыл бұрын
I think so. The Garberg is too thick for slicing jobs. It’ll work but the Kansbol is fantastic for most tasks. A Garberg with a Kansbol backup is ideal but if I could only choose one, it would be the Kansbol. I noticed that your knife, the Snake Eater, is similar to the Kansbol. I could see it being a useful knife.

I have used the Mora 2000 for over ten years on my boat. No complaints ever. This year I have added the Kansbol. We sail the archipelago in southwestern Finland so there are campfires and saunas quite often. Here the Kansbol gets all the stars, the sharp spine for scraping birch bark, sparking the fire steel, the best. Splitting down kindling, food prep and just plain whittling, a joy. Best value on land or sea. Thanks for the great video.

The Mora 2000 is the greatest knife of all time in my opinion. Better handle than the Kansbol. Bought my first Mora 2000 in 1997. Seems a lot of people online doesn’t know the Mora 2000 is issued to Swedish soldiers. Fantastic knife!

Also the drainage holes can be used to attach as a neck knife. The leather sheath for the Garberg can also be purchased separately for use as an upgrade for this awesome knife

I’m 48, owned a lot of knives. I only recently bought a Mora. It’s not this one but the companion I think and I can attest, best 15 bucks I ever spent. Besides maybe my opinel. They’ve both become my go to knives any more. The opinel is excellent for food prep or cutting an apple and the mora is just tough.

I completely agree, James. The combination of versatility, ergonomics, sheath/carry options and design, weight, cutting characteristics, and price, it's unmatched. It's an easy pick when going hiking or camping. Heck, it's an easy pick around the kitchen too.

The kansbol has become my favorite garden/ forage knife If I tuck it in my front pocket to stop the sheath from flipping thisaway, thataway! The stainless rolls a bit on root stocks and ground stems but is easily rolled back with a diamond flat rod sharpener. Best slicer for vegis! My green is stealthy and blends with camo geer!

Amen to that. I bought Kansbol unused second hand for €20, very sceptical about the combo grind. I came to love it so much for the reasons you so well articulated. I have many expensive fancy, hand made, even custom knives with much better steels, but Kansbol is my favourite.

I found mora knives few years back and absolutely love em!!! I carry at least one in my long haul box truck and always have a smaller one in my bug out road bag and usually a full sized one too. I gifted one to my neighbor and you thought he done won the lottery!!! Lol. He loves that mora knife a lot and carries it and keeps it near by him and wife at all times he says. I’m so blessed with as my neighbors all these years❤️ love your videos brother!!!! I think I have like 4-5 five of em few at apt and couple with me on the road lol.

Best video yet on the Kansbol. Well worth subscribing to your channel. I'm 77 and don't get out like I used to but still enjoy knives. I was intrigued by that dual grind and so ordered a Kansbol, 2000 and the Bushcraft Forest, all with that same blade grind. Now, which one to keep. The 2000 and Forest both have highly polished blades. Without using a micrometer, it is easy to see that the polished blades come out thinner. That, plus, does all that polishing hurt the heat treat? I don't know, but it could. For that reason, I'm going with the Kansbol. I may one day smooth off the spine in front of the handle so that it is easier on the fingers if I choke up on the blade or put thumb pressure there. It would still leave plenty of sharp spine for other uses. I have the green one and may wind up with orange. How many times have I searched for my knife after laying it down in the woods? It's nice to not hear bushcraft, bushcraft. In the Northeast where I grew up we had woods. The only bushes I remember were a field near the house full of blueberry bushes :) Just funnin. Enjoy.

A long time user of Morakniv products. Though I had 8 various Moras, last week I ordered a Kansbol. When it arrived and I began to look it over, I clearly see why so many people speak so highly of it. A very impressive design, combined with the worldwide known Morakniv quality. Living in the woods of East Texas, I'm surrounded by pine, oak, and cedar trees. I am now going to be carrying the Kansbol into my woods and make use of its well thought out features. Great video and information about this knife. It was a deciding factor in my buying this knife. Thank you!

Owning it now. It is an excellent Knife. And you are absolutely correct. About the uses of the grind. And take it from someone who is owned well over 100 blades. And destroyed half of them learning how to sharpen. It is an excellent bang for your buck. And there is most definitely something to be said for stainless. God bless.

I agree 100% I hav had one for yrs & continue to use it. Luv the multi grind. My camping knife does a lot of food prep as well as wood work. At Camp I always hav the kansbol & an expensive custom knife also with a multi grind similar to the Kansbol. Especially at deer Camp someone always wants to borrow a knife. I hand them the Kansbol & they always ask where I got it. It's a grt knife, especially for the price.

Thanks Junkyard Fox for the great review and the great music. When I was a young man living in Alaska, I would carry a large thick Bowie knife for wood processing and a second very sharp flat grind blade to skin and game process. The best of both worlds. This Kansbol seems to have both these features in one knife. It is a bit small, but the price is right. Thanks again.

Well you convinced me, I can't decide on the color so I'm getting both lol and using your link! I always thought that compund knife grind designe was silly and a gimmick but the way you explained it for skinning and cleaning fish game etc. makes alot of sense as that is one issue I have with a scandi ground blade vs a flat grind like my essee blades. I have and love moras especially the bushcraft black, the mora chisel, the fillet knife and a small carver that I have. They are so lite weight and low cost you can carry an armada of them in your pack! Guess I'll be carrying at least one more!

Growing up quite close to Mora in the 60s, I remember the Mora knifes well. Everyone had them, it was like Falu rödfärg. I didn't even know they were made for anything else than workman's knives. Or exported. It was a surprise to see a generalized Morakniv also used for cooking etc, instead of getting a specialized knife for that. I wanted to say -- thanks for a trip back to my childhood. :-)

Hi, Junkyard Fox! Great presentation! And I think you're right in that the Mora Kasbol is a super knife with great versatility. The following is just my opinion, which probably isn't worth much. The one major drawback with the Kansbol is that the blade is only 2.5mm thick stainless steel. Whereas the Mora heavy duty Companion (at roughly half the cost), is 3.2mm thick stainless steel. Of course both models have that nice scandi grind blade (the Kansbol has the partial scandi, which helps to make this knife more versatile than the Companion HD is (hence the added cost). Also, the Kansbol SS does sport a 90 degree spine to facilitate great ferro rod sparks (unlike the Companion HD). However, the added thickness of the Companion HD is much more trustworthy for batoning wood in a pinch, plus it can and perform heavier bushcraft work overall. So even though the Kansbol blade is considerably wider and just slightly longer than the Companion HD is, I'm hard-pressed to justify the Kansbol's dollar-for-dollar value over the HD Companion. One more point: the Kansbol has a drop-point blade shape--not very conducive for an emergency self defense thrust, whereas the HD Companion has a more of a clip-point blade shape--very effective for a self defense thrust. On the other hand, I find that the Kansbol handle feels more comfortable and secure in my hand than all my other Mora's. Cheers!

I went to buy a Kansbol about a month ago and they were selling Mora 2000 anniversary additions (exactly the same but black handle and sheath) for £24 delivered. Couldn't resist. I prefer the 2000 handle, I know some find it too thin. I always have a Victorinox Farmer on me for scraping tasks so the rounded 2000 spine isn't an issue. As regards the Kansbol type blade, usually a Jack of all trades means you have to compromise somewhere, not here, it pretty much does everything you need it to. Good stuff!

I have 5 moraknivs. They're so cheap and dependable so I just keep getting them to put in places I'm likely to need a knife. I keep one on my roll bar in case I need to cut out of a seatbelt, one in the boat, one in my gear bag, one by the door, one in the back of the Jeep, and I give them out as xmas gifts quite often too. Nice knife. I really like the dual grind blade. I have just bought the Garberg in stainless and the Companion in stainless as well. But I never knew about the Kansbol. I like stainless steel blades the best, because I am not good with carbon steel. My first Mora in carbon steel rusted up a lot and I don't want to have to oil the blade all the time. Plus, I always have a ferro rod some where on me, so using a rock to catch a spark on a carbon steel blade will hopefully not be an issue (hope I did not hex myself, saying this). I enjoyed this video. Thanks.

A Very nice well though out video You haven't convinced me to replace my Dark Timbers or my LT Wrights but I may pick up one to live in my emergency kit.

I’m not saying this is the ultimate knife ever. But it’s great for beginners or to have as a backup knife. How’s great in bug out bags, fishing kits etc

I use the Mora Eldris, 2000 and Kansbol all are worth owning. I have other knives much more expensive to; the only real difference is mostly appearance. Thick full tang knives are not a necessary or a major important value. I never found any knife as easy to sharpen as one with a scandi grind. Proving otherwise is hard to do.👍

A practical knife is always better than a show knife. This Mora is an excellent field knife, but my everyday knife is a Victornox DeLuxe Tinker fitted with tulipwood scales. My woodworking toolbag knife is the humble Stanley 10-049 that locks securely and is feather-light when carrying a load of tools.

Great video mate. I'm totally agreeing with your opinions on this knife. I know the predessor to this knife, the Mora 2000 is Sweden's favorite bushknife (and mine also). All this nonsense marketing around unessacary supersteels (I want to regularly sharpen my knife, that way I get better at the task of sharpening), full-tang construction (very rarely required during normal knife usage, lets be honest with ourselves) and tactical this-and-that (clunky, over engineered sheaths with pockets/pouches or such to make them even more clunky) doesn't sell a knife to a genuine knife user (only somebody that is trying to buy an image or an heirloom instead of a simple cutting tool). I've had my Mora 2000 for over 13 years, it was my first "real knife", and it has been nothing but prefect for me, though I agree with you that the Kansbol has a few more features to reccommend it over the 2000. I tried a few premium knives during my time (I too fell for the marketing) but they have failed to live up to, their own hype or, my specific needs and I've always gone back to the 2000...because, it's simply been a better knife for me.

A trick I was shown with the Garberg is shoving a bicycle tube over the handle. It makes it much more secure in the sheath and gives you a much better texture.

I have some inner tube on my Sch 52 and it is much better. It passed a bit of girth, it is comfortable, doesn't slip, and is especially great when using it as a chopper. I dont have inner tube on my Moras though. Their handles are comfortable and my Moras are not used for chopping.
