I have been using these as my main hunting skinning knife for over 20 years still have my. original when the grind was convex has done a couple of hundred goats sheep etc and only ever needs a steel after each animal to get back to shaving sharp. Does the job so well that never needed a fixed blade

Ancient gauls and romans had pocket knives not too different from this sort of design. Friction folders deserve more recognition, they've been around for millenia.

Svord peasant is competitive because of what it can do, not how it looks or the features that come with it. It is essentially the strongest folding knife, because really it’s just a fixed blade that folds into a handle. You can do every fixed blade task with it no problem. It’s carbon steel so you can throw mad sparks with it. You can unscrew it using the simplest of tools and to put it back together again is extremely simple. Don’t like the handle? You can customize it and even make a makeshift handle for it if needed. Made out of a tool steel that takes a really keen edge. Can do simple (Not precise) wildling and above cuts. Only downside, it’s carbon steel so you need to either treat it and wait for a patina or force a patina if you don’t want it to rust.

The svord peasant knife original had L6 steel and they later changed it to 15n20. My guess is The hole can be used to attach a long lanyard to and when the knife is open wrap the lanyard cord several times around the handle to help prevent the blade from closing. Keep the interesting and fun videos coming. Have a great day. Barry Levitt

I use mine for a garden knife (though not for digging) Fits perfectly in small pocket of my tool pouch. One handed opening makes it gentle and easy to access the edge. And very easy to clean! Simple is best!

I own the mini peasant and I completely dig the simplicity of the design. I've heard that the steel is 15N20 but getting a accurate answer is shrouded in mystery. Personally I have little use for the modern angles and facets found on many of the current crop of knives, call me a traditionalist I suppose.

Another thing, the only cut where the blade is at risk of closing is batoning, and you won’t be absent minded during that, so it’s full proof. Other cuts involve pushing against the sharp part itself, which will cause the tang to move inwards towards the pin not outwards towards your hand, so it’ll never close during a cut.

I use mine a lot for bushcraft. Carry it in a leather neck pouch I made. Always have a SAK (stainless) in my pocket so it's already an addition. Since it has no spring, lock or closed handle it's very easy to clean. I would like it if they also made a plastic handle, stainless steel blade version of it. Just a simple AUS8, 12C27 or 440C would be fine.

The Knife Center has this knife with full titanium construction (stonewashed I believe) and it's only about 30 bucks on sale at the moment, which seems like a good deal. Dunno if it is better than the poly one in use, but I think the reason for me to get it is collect ability like Pete was saying. I might try to do some ano work on it. It's a nice option for that kind of stuff.

I have a wooden handled one that I have had for years and love it. I made a sheath for it that makes it easy to carry. I have heard that that the design may go back to Roman times. The hole will take a lanyard that will wedge into the handle and help keep it open and aid in closing. Thanks for the video. There hasn’t been too much discussion about this knife, but it’s hard to beat for the money and holds a good edge. ☮️

I have a Mini Peasant. It's a Roman Peasant knife made in New Zealand from a high-carbon Swedish tool steel called L7 that Svord uses with a proprietary tempering formula to create an outstanding blade at a crazy cheap price. Svord makes their money from selling lots of knives instead of selling fewer at a larger profit. I filed that point off the back of the handle. It's a great EDC and you can drop it and so what? It's tough and inexpensive and perfect for what it is, a great blade that holds an edge EXTREMELY well with the most simple handle design and being able to grab that tang as you reach into your pocket is something you get used to right away.

The hole is for screwing it into an actual handle, because it’s just a full tang knife on a swivel. It’s essentially an Esee Izula with a hole for the swivel instead of the bottom part of the tang which adds nothing to strength.
@traviswrigg5158
@traviswrigg5158 7 жыл бұрын
The hole is a great place to put a chunk of paracord. That paracord lengthens the amount of material in your hand, thus making the (non)lock even more effective. Also Svord sells sheaths to go with this knife. I don't recommend it because it's floppy and that makes it hard to insert the knife, but I've never had a problem with the tang. Also the grind on mine is way less slicey than my Opinel. Like... The blade stock is barely thinned out at all the grind ends up just going full width stock (exagerating, but not by much) and then edge. I will say though, this knife is super super tough. I haven't had any trouble using it for harder tasks like cutting through electric fence rope. That stuff is nasty, but I have yet to find a tool that's better at cutting it than a knife, and a Svord peasant is in a lot of ways a disposable knife. I don't doubt your knife is slicier than mine. The grind on mine is way higher than on yours, but that grind doesn't really do anything to thin out the blade. Maybe yours is also less tough?

The Svörd Mini Peasant is an appealing folder, and I happen to own three: one with the original plastic scales, which is my most used around the house, and two more with self made custom scales, which I rarely use, but am proud to own. Love these guys! Unfortunately, I don't carry any of them due to the carbon steel blade. Excuse me, but I never make this, otherwise nice and practical folder, my EDC carry because a travel knife to me entails using it a lot with food cutting, especially citrus types, and carbon steel mostly leaves an annoying, metallic aftertaste. My most used travel folder is an Opinel Inox, and I just wish gave one an equal option in stainless steel. So, they're nice play things but not very practical.

I have three of these and they're great for use in and around the house, kitchen, workshop, garage, garden. Very reliable workhorse knives. Unfortunately, the ones with the wooden handles may look better, but they're not nearly as comfortable as the plastic ones and their overall fit-and-finish can be a bit wonky. Still, I can't recommend these enough as good ol' beater folders. Also, Pete, you left out the infamous Okapi, South Africa's traditional classic.
