I think one of the things a lot of people miss about this song is the "have mercy" part. He says "Lord have mercy on me". He doesn't ask the court for mercy cuz he knows what he did but he asked the Lord for mercy believing it was the right thing. He didn't hide from the law he didn't ask people for forgiveness he asked the Lord for forgiveness cuz he was okay with what he did and he was praying to the Lord hoping it was understood as well.

I think that's my favorite line too 'I didn't hide try to hide my pistol, didn't even try to run. I just sat on the porch smoking one of his cigarettes and waited for the cops to come.' He looked at the situation decided he could live with the consequences and that he felt that the Lord would ultimately forgive him and that was the only justice that ultimately mattered in his eyes.

My ex-wife was staying the night with her brother when she was like 12 13. Well his father-in-law was over that night and kept trying to talk her into changing into different outfits and stuff. So she finally told her brother what he was saying to her and dude took off running because he thought he was caught. Her brother ended up calling her oldest brother that lived in town at the opposite end of the road that they live on so they kind of had him trapped on the road. Well when the cops showed up and found them beating the hell out of the dude in the ditch cop said you boys go back home after he found out what happened and told him if anybody asked any questions dude fought when he was being arrested so it looked like the cop beat the piss out of him.

When he would fuss about why he had to do things like regularly mow the lawn of our 80 widowed neighbor, my response would be "because it is the right thing". As he got older all I had to do was give him a look and he would say to me "I know, because it is the right thing." This song hit me in the feels for personal reasons. But the one thing that always goes through my mind when I watch this video or a reaction it is, and I am paraphrasing slightly, "No greater love has a man that he would lay down his life for another." (In some interpretations of the bible it says 'for his friend(s).) That is essentially what he did, in my view. He put his life on hold for *X* number of years to free her from this nightmare. He didn't try to run. He didn't try to lie his way out of it. He just did the right thing. That takes a kind of courage that rocks my soul. Near the end he says it's been 60 months. That's 5 years, and she still comes to see him. That in itself says so much. LOVED THE REACTION, FELLAS!! ☮💖🙏🏼🤗 and *MERRY CHRISTMAS!! 🎄

Reminds me of something that happened in an online group I was part of. There was a young lady who lurked there for a long time and eventually told the group she was hiding from her ex. She was very cautious at first but as time passed she became comfortable and started showing herself (and she was smokin...absolutely gorgeous btw) and started speaking more openly about her life in various posts. Then one day she stopped posting. It became a topic of conversation that she had abruptly stopped commenting on anything. Rumors flew and many claimed she had been making it all up for attention. A few days later it came to light and another member posted links to news articles... Her ex had gotten into and used the group to locate her and he came for her. There was a handyman at her home that afternoon, fixing something for her when the ex broke into the house. The handy man apparently tried to protect her... The ex, as it turns out, was every bit the psycho that she had said he was... He killed the handyman then attacked her pretty viciously... Left her brutalized and overkill stabbed to death and I believe he took the child...I don't recall exactly for some reason... But he was caught pretty quickly because I want to say he left one of the bodies laying outside the home... the police were aware of the situation and she had protective orders and such in place, so they knew who they were looking for and thankfully found him quickly. It was bizarre. So many had accused her of lying about her situation and others encouraged her to open up in the group... And ultimately that's how he found her so in my mind some of the members had some level of responsibility in her death. But the handyman, a complete stranger prior to that day lost his life getting in the middle of that crazy situation that had nothing to do with him. Because he tried to protect a woman from an abusive psycho scumbag. Men get wrapped up in life altering, or ending...situations over trying to protect women all the time. Whether it be extreme situations like this, or what's described in the song, or just simply getting into a fight on behalf of a woman... Yet to hear the new age, feminist types squawk these days, they'd have you believe that men hate women and the natural male tendencies they try to oppress in society are called toxic and young men and boys are being demonized and demasculinized...trying to make them take on female characteristics and deny their evolutionary biology. But if they'd stop playing up to the woke ideology and admit that women want and need men to act like men in society, we'd be much better off...

I called my sister and she came and took me to the ER. it was so bad my own mother called my work and said i was in a serious accident so no one would know.

I have to say that the Hardy and Lainey song is amazing my girls get so mad because she didn't fight harder for him I'm a southern woman from Kentucky I was brought up in the sticks in the holler whatever you want to call it but that's one thing we were taught a man never puts his hands on them if you see it happen step in and do what you got to do

pretty cool and he left her his truck. What a real man would do to protect a women. A shame he ended up in jail. I love this song. Wish we had more men like that.

Best line in the whole song is " I just sat on the porch smoking one of HIS cigarettes"

Every time they start singing "have mercy on me" I get chills and a little bit teary eyed. It seems so unfair that he is in jail although I do understand why he is.

Hardy is from Mississippi as well as myself and alot of us still have a value in our lives to help folks in need. And the way i was raised was to never lay a hand on a women

I don’t know about anyone else’s reaction to this song, but I think it’s really good. If HARDY is country, rock, part rap, etc, he is a great writer and is touching on important topics. Like this song.

I have been in that situation and I'm able to say it's not something you want to deal with but the police told me "just tell us what mile marker you leave him by and we'll send someone to throw out what's left" when it's bad, good police understand

Having a daughter who was horribly abused by her husband, this song brought me to tears. It's cyclical and never stops, how many times I wanted to, but...he sits in prison now, for doing this to the next wife.

REAL men don’t beat women ! And women shouldn’t beat on men ! But a man who takes out their bs on a woman they know won’t fight back is not worth the oxygen it takes to fill his lungs !

I don't know if he was an angel because angels don't do what he did. Umm Yeah no. Angels in the texts were savagely violent. Righteous but brutal.

I wish someone had done this for me,my mother and brother when my ex-stepdad beat the hell out of us……We showed up on my grandmother’s porch one night….my mother with a broken arm and me and my brother beaten bloody and she told us “you can sleep on the floor tonight but in the morning you have to go back before your father(my papaw) gets up”. We endured 12 years of him beating us before we got out. I’ve got scars mental and physical that time won’t ever heal. My husband is the kind of man that would have “taken care of” an animal like that and that’s why I love him until the end of time. 17:34

So sorry you all had to go through that without help. I don't understand why your relatives, especially after seeing your Mom's broken arm and you kids beaten up, didn't help. Were they afraid of him, just of that kind of mindset to don't get involved, or we're they just too stupid? I hope you heal.

Years ago in Wood County, Texas, the sheriff’s deputies arrested this guy for beating his wife. It had been going on for awhile and they told him he better not do it again. He did. A different deputy arrested him and locked him up. When the first deputies heard about it, they let him out and the beating was on. They crashed through a door where the Sheriff was doing paperwork and the guy and his blood splattered all over the Sheriff’s desk. He gathered up his paperwork and moved elsewhere and said, “You boys clean this mess up when you get done.” They don’t let law enforcement do stuff like that anymore.

I am convinced that the reason this man was willing to basically give up his own life (freedom) for someone who he did not know, was because he had seen this scenario before. Maybe someone he loved was abused and either was too weak or too young to do anything about it. The line "I knew what had happened to her." Maybe he is now in a place to do something, where he couldn't before. There is so much more to the story-at least in my mind.

I know this video is older but wanted to explain why a lot of women stay. Most physically abusive people don't start off with the physical. They break you down mentally and emotionally first. You feel like you have nowhere to go. Mine went as far as threatening to kill everyone I loved if I left him. It took me 9 years to finally get away safely. Most will tell you the bruises and broken bones heal but you deal with the mental, ptsd for a long time.
@deeburns3701 Жыл бұрын
Having been in an abusive relationship like this, I could have really used someone like this to stand up for me and my boys. My family knew. My friends knew. The police knew. Yet no one stood up to him and defended me. It wasn't until I found my sons sleeping with hunting knives that I realized I needed to do what I needed to do to get us out of that situation. My sons are now amazing young men. They've both told me that what they learned from their dad was how to NOT treat a woman. I'm not promoting violence but if you EVER see a woman in this situation, she just may need you to step up and help her get out of the situation.
