I (sub 3) is just to indicate the rectangular area has been divided up into 4 segments when considering the stress below an internal point. The point is located at the corner of each rectangular segment therefore each segment has it's own influence factor I(sub 1) to I(sub 4) and via superposition the vertical stress is the product of patch load x Sum (I)

What estimation method would be appropriate for a situation where a layered soil system is rapidly loaded by tsunami (flood) or debris flow (sediment-laden flood) loosely confined to an open channel with rectangular cross section? Really enjoying your video series.
