The Actor whom played Beansie was Paul Herman. He was a known and respected guy with actors and street guys. He knew Martin Scorsese for 50 years. He was invested in restaurants and was well liked. He passed away on his 76th Birthday a few years ago. RIP

Honestly, probably my favorite part of The Sopranos is the way it shows the stress being in the mafia has on your relationships. Tony almost killed/was killed by his own uncle, had to kill one of his best friends in Pussy, ended up killing the son he never had in Christopher, and here was debating whether or not he had to kill Paulie. It’s no wonder why his mind was pushed to the brink throughout the show; having to balance paranoia or legitimate concern on one hand with the longstanding personal relationships and love on the other sounds like hell. There’s only so much compartmentalization between business and personal you can do. It’s like the adage “Never go into business with family” times a million.

The secret, IMO, to The Sopranos, was the casting and dialogue of bit characters such as Ritchie. The acting is excellent, the dialog fits the character, and the result is that the viewer gets the impression that all the characters are important to the central story. This is very difficult to do. I actually don’t know how this show did it.
