@@atticus6572 Most of the problems that arose were due to Ralph’s unbearableness. Which comes back to bite Tony later with the horse and him having to ultimately brutally kill Ralph in the beating at his house. Gigi was far more insightful and put together as a leader. He just needed time to expand. He also seemed to be business minded enough and savy when it comes to accumulating income for the family. I always thought it was ironic how they criticized Gigi’s handling of Ralph, due to other issues, which also was a factor in Gigi’s death. Yet Tony overlooked so many of Ralph’s incidents and behavior due to him being “a good earner.” Only to kill him in a fit of rage anyway. Gigi was far more respectable and old school. Ralph was a maniacal bastard.

@@bignut8466 it all goes back to the continuing theme throughout the show of Tony and the mob in general overlooking serious problems or shortcomings in people because they have ties to lucrative income or business that they can get a cut of. Even later with how practically everyone had a problem with Vito being gay. Yet Tony was still going to give him a pass and spare him due to his important business ties. Most of his construction income and contracts came through him. Which was roughly half or more of the family’s income. Tony did what made sense from a business standpoint, and to protect his own self interests. Even look at the later war with New York. While every other option was explored to keep them from killing each other first. Tony, Johnny sack, and Philly all were in a constant head battle with each other. Only stopping themselves from making it more serious due to all the construction income and their business ventures relying on each other being at peace and on good terms so they could all operate and make money. Ralph even said it himself before Tony killed him “I don’t see you saying anything when I hand you a big fat envelope.” While Ralph was a major asset as an income generator, he was a low life degenerate scumbag with a horrible personality that didn’t mesh with other gangsters and associates. Long term if Tony didn’t kill him, someone else would’ve. They practically went to war with New York over Ralph’s asinine comments about Johnny’s wife. It’s an anomaly that Ralph even had the wit and connections to be able to maintain these construction projects and set ups for Tony and the rest of the crew. He may have been a gangster and player but he wasn’t respected by anyone. And on top of it was a lose cannon, had severe drug problems, and a big mouth. Which is ironic because these are all things other characters were killed by Tony for. Including even Chris and Tony B who were his own family members. Spare no expense, regardless of how important people are in the business world in real life and even the mob world a horrible evil personality with no sense of self preservation will always eventually be shot down. And has no place in business. Eventually someone will take you down. Doesn’t matter how important or good you are at your job.

Gigi is the most underrated character of Sopranos. One of my favorites of Tony’s crew. Sucks the way he went out. He was the only one who was always 100% on Tony’s side, but also had humanity & decency. Even Silvio bucked Tony a time or two. Not Gigi though. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I mean it's quite obvious that Gigi was just fishing to see if it's true, because like sure if it were any of the Tailors, they wouldn't give a shit about why a person needs to die, just that they have to die. With Gigi, I'm 99.9% sure they would've informed him why Philly was whacked, so he brings up questions that normally no one would dare to gossip to, but you can clearly see Philly didn't care about spreading rumors like that and even smiling and saying "yea Tony's completely gone off the rails, THIS is who leads us now".
