Omg! Thank you sooo much! I thought my ceiling wiring was missing a wire and I was stuck, not knowing why. I watched over six tutorials and none were as detailed as yours. As a matter of fact, all the others were so much longer, and I still was left clueless. Until watching your tutorial, I realized that the fourth wire was for the additional light switch. You made more sense in seconds, just making that very important point about the additional wire! Wow! Seeing that I only have one light switch, it explains why I don't have a fourth ceiling wire! You were very informative by pointing out both methods. One switch and two switches. So simple and to the point! Thank goodness I came across your video. Great job!

I successfully removed all lighting, found and separated my wiring, and now I'm getting to your next step! Oh, I also found that fourth wire!! I have one in my Master Bathroom!! GREAT! Just make sure the fan is well supported by a cross-member. Fans are way heavier than lights.

I install blades to blade arms before attaching them to motor when installing fans. Easier that way.

I installed mine after a long battle. I used only the 1.5 inch screws to secure the initial bracket. Didn't use the 4-5 inch one - think for drilling into the wood itself. Loved the camera and sound work at the end. Funny. Put a smile on my face.

Phil Crockett I used the locking screw (which came with the hunter fan) to fix the brackets to the 70lb supported box instead of the wood or machine screw. It seemed firm and tight. Do you suggest I leave it or I redo it?

Thank u, u helped me with putting up my ceiling fan in my kitchen. I had a little trouble with the mounting screws I didnt have any, so I had to go out n buy. Also the circuit box I dont understand it, I had to go thru each switch on/off. Would you do another video but this time explaining the circuit box.

Sounds like you did just fine. That's what I usually do. If the circuit box is not labeled well on the back side of the door, then simply go down through the switches turning off and on, until you're helper yells (OK, THAT'S THE SWITCH!)..... that's how we do it in my house. then, always double check, using a wire tester.

I just finished installing two! I actually did a fantastic job and I saved $50 a fan which would have been the installation fee. The only thing I did different was to install the blade arms before attaching them to the motor as someone here suggested. Other than that, it was a a piece of cake. Thanks a lot. Not only did I save money, but I feel accomplished...not to mention feeling much cooler!

You don't NEED it, but it definitely lowers the risk of shock to have it and KNOW that it's off. It costs less than an ER visit.

YES! Just make sure they are going in to a solid structure.....like a 2X4. Oh... and use good deck screws. 3 inch screws would be over-kill, which wouldn't hurt.

so i'm assuming you have a light in the middle of your bedroom ceiling. If so, take the light out and see if the light's electrical box is fixed into a cross member (a 2-by that spans the joists). If not, then you will need to buy a special bracket that spans the ceiling joists. the following is an example of what you need. So I have 2 switches and the red wire at my house. I'm not finding a blue wire on the motor. Am I able to put my red and black wires together to operate both switches. There are blue and white for the switch housing but they just plug in together on the switch housing cap. This may sound confusing and the video is simple but I'm still a little stuck.

I wish I could help you out, my friend...... but I don't like giving advice on unusual electrical situations that I can't see live. I would test each wire with a wire-tester and label them accordingly.

hi Phil great video! im having an issue my fan will not work. i have a red wire but only one switch. when i wire the blue/black to the black wire it doesnt work neither when i wire the blue with red. Do you have any suggestions as what i may be doing wrong? Thanks!

I would pay more attention to the action of the wire than the color in this situation. Start over by using your wire tester and label each wire for what they are. use your switch to see which wire is hot and which isn't. Then go from there. If none are hot, then you might have a bad fuse, bad switch, or there is some disconnect between the breaker and the light. Hard to diagnose over the net.. but I'd first see if you even have a hot wire to begin with.

@@PhilCrockett currently on hold, we have drop ceiling and theres no support. I looked at how they did the one in our livingroom. There's two 2x4s screwed to cross members, then each side has 2 more that comes down to the height of the drop ceiling, then a 4x4 that comes across with the electrical box and the fan attached to it. Looks simple enough to make so I'm going to try and mimic the work around first.

there are also ceiling fan braces that can be purchased that go between the ceiling joists.

I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure the fan comes with wire nuts.

Hello, great video. I have the same ceiling fan and mine wobbles. How do I fix that? I put the weight magnets on each one to see which one wobbles and I still have the same issue. Also, can I change the light kit to another brand? Thank you

I've never had to deal with wobbly fans, so I'm not sure why it would be out of balance. As far as the light kits goes..... if I were you, I'd shop for a new fan that has the lights that you want. That will also take care of the wobbly problem. I know what you mean about the lights.... they are super dim in this model. The only reason I have this fan, is because a friend gave it to me free. I probably would have bought a different one. However, my video would still help you out. Most fans are wired the same.
