This is why ceiling fans come in different sizes. Traditionally, the 3 main standards are 52", 42" and 36", though 32" is not uncommon. I'm in the middle. They have their place and can be useful in some places. I've repaired a lot of them and replaced a lot of them. The newer bladeless designs are nice. I'm torn as they helped on heating cost by pushing warm air trapped at the ceiling down to the rest of the actual living space. They can also help pull cool air up from floor level when the AC is running. With newer HVAC systems, ceiling fans probably don't help with energy costs.

I'm currently installing ceiling fans in all 3 of my upstairs bedrooms. Even with central AC, depending on the age of the house and the layout of the duct work, air doesn't always circulate properly. The type of fan I'm installing has a feature that allows me to switch the fans from updraft in summer (pulling cool air upward to displace rising hot air) to downdraft in winter (circulating warm air back down toward the floor). I think the modern fan designs look pretty classy and the model I'm installing also has an LED light fixture so I get the best of both worlds. *shrug* But everyone's tastes are different I suppose.

I am totally agree with her and you did a great job. I have 4 fans in our house and they are noisy and cut the spot light beams. I am gonna donate that all.

30-something recent first time home buyer here: I've put ceiling fans in the two bedrooms that didn't have them, and will be replacing the older "nasty" fan in my master bedroom at some point (with a new/more modern one). Sometimes you're just so damn hot that not even an air conditioned house is quick enough relief. 3000K LEDs are ideal @ home - every room in my house except my office (4000K) and shop (5000K) uses them. They're more neutral than old incandescents without being "bluish" like 5000K & higher.

I agree with your customer...I'm a diyer and have 6 ceiling fans to remove...I hate the chains hanging down!! I was hoping you would comment on the light/fan switch on the wall and how to fix it to just turn on the light!

Hahaha~ I got here by simply wanting a tutorial on how to remove an EXTREMELY ugly ceiling fan in my Dad's home. I'm not entirely sure, but think he "customized" the fan blades with floor varnish instead of buying new ones. Of course, he likes shiny things ALSO, so the shiny old school brass is glowing from the ceiling...looks ghetto and the ENTIRE fan/light fixture is sickening filthy! I JUST want to know the simplest way to remove the ENTIRE ugly contraption while he isn't looking...lol.

Here in AZ, they are a MUST!!!! As long as they are more modern looking, I don't mind ceiling fans at all, I put them in all bedrooms and the main living area for my family for comfort.

LOL! I have them in every room. I tend to upgrade every couple of years. In the south it is either a ceiling fan and a reasonable AC setting or no fans and a huge power bill. I recently even had my 20 year old AC unit replaced and still used the fans all summer.

As a handyman, I will change our fans for light fixtures without complaint. I especially like the kind you installed-little or no assembly required. And they are big enough to cover the circle where the fan was. On the other hand, installing a fan in place of a light requires assembly. Most of the fans customers buy today have nearly the same assembly steps as the fans I installed in 1990. A few are a little better, but they all take time. I can charge more for a fan install, but light installs are more profitable.

I don’t think they’re trashy but I want to get mine out of my room because the ceiling is lower and I want a canopy bed and that damn ceiling fan is in the way! So thank you for this video. The fan with the light fixture in my room is the only light source so I was wondering how I was going to do that, you made it look pretty simple.

🔨the like button! I think it's crazy to take out the ceiling fans... I understand updating them but not removing them completely. However, I do live in AZ where we heat up to 120 and you have an air conditioner, ceiling fan, and two floor fans running with your face in the freezer!
@Nuthing_but_the_Truth2 жыл бұрын
They hate ceiling fans because they don't understand how central cooling works. Overworked motors will always burn out quicker than one that is not. Ceiling fans help keep air moving and keep the room cooler, which, in turn, allows the AC to not come on as much.
@mattjaxdad86932 жыл бұрын
I like a ceiling fan, most Southern people do. I think they need to limit the light to a single bulb. If you have 8 of these throughout your house with 4 bulbs each, that's a terrible waste of money. Make sure you get one with metal blades for outdoors, the wood will droop from humidity.
@REVerbtalk6 жыл бұрын
The RIGHT ceiling fan works especially when it comes to efficiency. Keeps the ac/heat from kicking on every 1 minute eating up electric cost. a good update of a ceiling fan where it's needed the most is an awesome idea. I don't have a preference for them as well but I'm surely going to install one if a client says so lol. That's an easy $85.00

We have a very modern 72' fan in our bedroom, its DC so its completely silent. Love it! I find its nicer to turn the A/C down slightly and use the fan circulating cool air, VS freezing cold A/C and no fan. I also prefer 4K led lights colour in our new home, I found 5K was too white and 3K was too yellow.
