A P but the millennials don’t care anything about saving money, it takes too long and they want that instant gratification! We’ve got several nieces/nephews that fall into that category and it just blows my mind. They don’t think they need to save cause Obama trained them that if they run out then there will be someone there to give them a bail out

Ceiling fans cost approximately 1 cent per hour in electricity to operate. They can allow you to shorten the total run time of your central air as well as make your central air more effective while running, since they circulate the air much faster. I had no idea people hated them so much. Kind of a no brainer to install them.

We got our first ceiling fan in the late '80s, and pretty much every room now has one. We had to replace the first ceiling fan because it bounced around on the ceiling. Word of advice: don't get a cheap ceiling fan! If you want something that will last, won't squeak, and is quiet, you're going to need to put a tad more money into it. Hunter is a really good ceiling fan, but it will cost more.

Ceiling fans are great for larger rooms to help circulate the air. I despise them in smaller rooms, especially if they're hulking masses of brown and black that take up half the ceiling space and protrude more than a foot and a half downward. The one you removed from the room was a prime example of a hulking mass of nast. I would've been happy to see it go myself haha

This is why ceiling fans come in different sizes. Traditionally, the 3 main standards are 52", 42" and 36", though 32" is not uncommon. These days, however, there are many new types of ceiling fans, some of which do not even look like ceiling fans, but serve the same purpose. I, personally LOVE ceiling fans...particularly the classics of the 80s, 70s and earlier, but everyone has different preferences.

Handymen normally hate ceiling fans because now-a-days they come in a box in a million pieces, or pre-assembled and then you first have to dis-assemble them first. I have the process down to 45 minutes. The normal homeowner takes 3 hours. I've never had any one in Texas turn down, or not want a nice ceiling fan. Only in cheap rentals do I replace a fan with a light fixture. The secret is to stick with one brand. I like Harbor Breeze, and you soon learn all the ends and outs of that brand's install.

I'm in the middle. They have their place and can be useful in some places. I've repaired a lot of them and replaced a lot of them. The newer bladeless designs are nice. I'm torn as they helped on heating cost by pushing warm air trapped at the ceiling down to the rest of the actual living space. They can also help pull cool air up from floor level when the AC is running. With newer HVAC systems, ceiling fans probably don't help with energy costs.

I'm currently installing ceiling fans in all 3 of my upstairs bedrooms. Even with central AC, depending on the age of the house and the layout of the duct work, air doesn't always circulate properly. The type of fan I'm installing has a feature that allows me to switch the fans from updraft in summer (pulling cool air upward to displace rising hot air) to downdraft in winter (circulating warm air back down toward the floor). I think the modern fan designs look pretty classy and the model I'm installing also has an LED light fixture so I get the best of both worlds. *shrug* But everyone's tastes are different I suppose.

I think ceiling fans are great. I have Central air and never had ceiling fans prior to installing them in my home and I would never want to go back. It greatly improves the HVAC systems performance as well as the performance of gas logs I installed. As long as they aren’t that old style with the bell type lights and have a basic design, I think they actually improve the look of a room. In many cases that is.

Kinda funny. I just removed all of my ceiling fans and replaced them with similar led lights. I was unaware of the trend, just something I thought of doing myself. But I don't think ceiling fans are trashy, I just think they collect a lot of dust and I never really use them.

Here in Northern California I have a large 56" or so fan in every medium large size room. They are a godsend in summer where setting the AC on 76 degrees and having the ceiling fans set at 75% speed still boosts my electricity bill to $200 a month. The circulating air from the fans makes life bearable when its 45 celcius 113f outside.

I tend to only use AC when it’s too hot/humid. I like open widows and a breeze. Ceiling fans help, especially in a bedroom. Aesthetically, I like modern designs. I’ve installed many, but in recent years my optical prescription has changed and I can’t see well enough above my head, as I’m looking through the distance part of my lenses. I wonder if I can get glasses made upside down for ceiling work? Or maybe just reading glasses will do?

For a tall room, vaulted ceiling or whatever, ceiling fans are a must, especially if it tends to get warm there in the summer, and/or you want to circulate heat in the winter. But in a small room with a low ceiling, they can be annoying, I'd have a box fan or desk fan or window fan in or near the window for small rooms. Exception is in a humid environment, tropics, Carribean etc. Then any air movement is good.

30-something recent first time home buyer here: I've put ceiling fans in the two bedrooms that didn't have them, and will be replacing the older "nasty" fan in my master bedroom at some point (with a new/more modern one). Sometimes you're just so damn hot that not even an air conditioned house is quick enough relief. 3000K LEDs are ideal @ home - every room in my house except my office (4000K) and shop (5000K) uses them. They're more neutral than old incandescents without being "bluish" like 5000K & higher.

Hahaha~ I got here by simply wanting a tutorial on how to remove an EXTREMELY ugly ceiling fan in my Dad's home. I'm not entirely sure, but think he "customized" the fan blades with floor varnish instead of buying new ones. Of course, he likes shiny things ALSO, so the shiny old school brass is glowing from the ceiling...looks ghetto and the ENTIRE fan/light fixture is sickening filthy! I JUST want to know the simplest way to remove the ENTIRE ugly contraption while he isn't looking...lol.

As a handyman, I will change our fans for light fixtures without complaint. I especially like the kind you installed-little or no assembly required. And they are big enough to cover the circle where the fan was. On the other hand, installing a fan in place of a light requires assembly. Most of the fans customers buy today have nearly the same assembly steps as the fans I installed in 1990. A few are a little better, but they all take time. I can charge more for a fan install, but light installs are more profitable.

They hate ceiling fans because they don't understand how central cooling works. Overworked motors will always burn out quicker than one that is not. Ceiling fans help keep air moving and keep the room cooler, which, in turn, allows the AC to not come on as much.

I like a ceiling fan, most Southern people do. I think they need to limit the light to a single bulb. If you have 8 of these throughout your house with 4 bulbs each, that's a terrible waste of money. Make sure you get one with metal blades for outdoors, the wood will droop from humidity.

The RIGHT ceiling fan works especially when it comes to efficiency. Keeps the ac/heat from kicking on every 1 minute eating up electric cost. a good update of a ceiling fan where it's needed the most is an awesome idea. I don't have a preference for them as well but I'm surely going to install one if a client says so lol. That's an easy $85.00

We have a very modern 72' fan in our bedroom, its DC so its completely silent. Love it! I find its nicer to turn the A/C down slightly and use the fan circulating cool air, VS freezing cold A/C and no fan. I also prefer 4K led lights colour in our new home, I found 5K was too white and 3K was too yellow.
