I don't envy you both putting up the antenna, my hubby has UHF/27megs etc and standing on the end of a 30 foot pole to keep it in place while hubby lifts it up scares the crap of out me. The Aus phone towers app is awesome.

It wasn't fun for sure, and then when there's lightning around that part was pretty concerning 😅

Thanks Michael! We sure hope so. With the lack of info available online It was like an Indiana Jones movie trying to learn the ins and outs of this device haha And there will definitely be a video coming soon about the sequel to the creek mystery 🧐

No worries ✌️ It's a very useful gadget, but a bit of a learning curve to figure out the ins and outs. This info took us months to find lol

Great to see the well presented process of setting up the Repeater. When registering, Is it only registered to 1 particular Tower or is it not tower dependent. For instance if touring Australia with a mobile home, one will be using Towers all over the place with a high gain antenna like yours. You mention a mobile repeater kit. Is this just the external antenna option or a different repeater unit with a different registration process.?

We bought the last repeater from an online store instead of Telstra and that one has the option to switch it from mobile to stationary. We've always used it in mobile mode even with the high gain unidirectional antenna, and haven't tried the stationary mode yet, maybe it's better in some ways. Will have to try it! And you can point to any tower within reach, it's not locked to any particular tower, just whichever gives best signal. Powertec is the online store we got ours from, they would be able to let you know exactly what the difference between the 2 settings is, but it doesn't seem to be a major difference. And you can just search the Cel-Fi go on eBay too, to find the nearest certified seller closest to you.

@@offgridcitycouple5695 Thanks for the reply, what is the full model number to have ability to toggle mobile/stationary. I heard that for stationary mode you have to register it and needs to be done on every move to a different tower. When in Mobile mode I am not sure if you need to register it initially (did you?) but do know as you say it don't care passing all the towers.

Nice thanks for the video, looking at one of these units. Any idea if they can be powered by a DC battery? Also can the transmitting antenna be any outdoor antenna as well?
@offgridcitycouple5695
@offgridcitycouple5695 Жыл бұрын
12V DC is good, because the mobile version of the repeater comes with the cigarette lighter adapter. Which is handy because u can convert 240/120V back to DC with a $20 adapter from Amazon 👌 All antennas will need to be specific to the device as they're all designed to be used at different frequencies. So basically a TV antenna won't be compatible with it.

(or if u mean transmitting as in the one from repeater to your phone, the little magnetic one we use is outdoor friendly already and comes with it)

does this device work with other network providers?
@offgridcitycouple5695
@offgridcitycouple5695 5 ай бұрын
It works with Optus too, you'd just need to check out if there's an option for your network 👍 (but Telstra does generally have a bit more coverage)

flip the Yagi on its side you'll need to be far less accurate with your direction and it will make a difference to your signal as well

Very interesting, do you know why that's the case? 🤔
@nathanmaker7824
@nathanmaker7824 7 ай бұрын
@@offgridcitycouple5695 its to do with how the antenna resonates. when its upright its a thin little beam. on its side its a wide flat beam. wide and flat means you need to be less accurate for the same or better speeds

For a fast and reliable internet connection Starlink is unbeatable. We've used it for a year now and there's less outages than with any other type of internet provider we've ever had, and it's way faster.
