Kenan Thompson was hired on season 29 (and probably was hired because Tracy Morgan left. In fact, Morgan leaving and Dean Edwards quitting was what led SNL to hire Kenan Thompson and Finesse Mitchell [the latter of whom only lasted until season 31 and, no, isn't related to Kel Mitchell, who got passed up for SNL in favor of Kenan Thompson]).

Yes! I think I just figured out why Chloe’s impressions are the best: she starts with really compelling and quirky subjects, and just takes that weirdness to new levels of funny. The new guy James Austin Johnson is starting to tap into this with his Adam Driver. If you start with a subject that is not all that interesting and you just copy what they usually say really well, it’s just a feat that I can be impressed with; like ventriloquism. But not so funny.

I’m no actor by any means but I’ve always felt like if they’re only gonna have two black actors they should at least have someone that can hang with Kenan. I love everything about this: the incredibly accurate impressions (especially given the unique celebrity choices that you don't often see impressions of), Kenan's mirth infused frustration with the celebrities, the obvious fun they're having with their performances, the generous and lively repartee, the fact that they each have a moment to shine in a sketch with that many performers and without upstaging one another... Just an absolute rollicking delight. Maybe it's just me, but the premise actually seems like it could be a really fun gameshow.
