They could go many places with this, you are 100% correct, but they never seem to touch on some of the obvious democrat insanity. As a registered independent, I completely get when they make fun of the wacked out right...but there is just as much insanity to pick on from the wacked out left, as well, if we are being totally honest here. The one thing I strongly disagree with, is how SNL tries to label every republican or right leaner as some hillbilly idiot. That's not even close to true. I have many friends from both sides of the spectrum, with differing political views, that are completely normal. It would be different if they just made fun of republican leaders...but they always go after regular people on the right, labeling them as if every republican celebrates Jan 6th. That's not even close to being true. The sane people on both sides, share a lot of the same core values and are more than willing to get along. And they do get along.

I think it shows in certain cases that the intention can be the same on both sides, which I think is oftentimes to fight tyranny, but both sides have vastly different views on what's tyranny, I'd point to the cop and Bible examples, in particular. Republicans think that certifying the election is tyrannical, the LEFT, thinks police are tyrannical. In the end it's the state that's tyrannical but the majority of the people don't see why and don't know how to constructively change anything. While on the Bible point, that person believes in seperatation of church and state entirely, and the other person who wants to pull a textbook for whatever reason, most likely due to the mention of something not Christian, might say they believe they're doing it in the name of church and state, even if they are off base, clearly. Same intention, but significantly different conclusions.

@@Bob-fj7lr What? When has any parent (Christian or not) disputed a text book in the name of separating“church and state?” It’s not about that, it’s about what is moral and appropriate to be teaching children and teens when their still learning about the world and figuring themselves out. If a school library has a book about hating and killing lgbt people, there would an uproar by lgbtq activists. Why? Because it’s morally wrong. It sends a bad message. It’s also bad to have books with graphic sex, it has no place in a public school library. Most (decent) parents would agree with this position.

@@Merlincat007 That’s the point tho. It should be non-partisan. Bob thinks that not wanting to teach your child the Bible is the separation of church and state, but a Christian not wanting their children to be taught pornography or sexual ideologies in a text book/library book is “off- base?” Both are influencing and imposing different ideas and behaviors. @@Souledex Critical Race Theory: an Introduction, Third Edition is what I consider to be the CRT textbook (though I may have actually read second edition). Any quotas hurt the poor more than the rich, because the system was already biased towards the rich. Meaningful reform focused on addressing poverty (which helps poor white and Black people) is what I want, but most laws that overtly address race do disadvantage poor white people because they are not designed to control for class as well as race. I am hopeful that this is a growing pain. The “age of information” has given more people a voice than ever before in history; it was inevitable that there would be some conflict at first. If we can get past the initial vitriol, we will genuinely be in position to make positive change that previously would have been impossible (and yes, education is a key part of that, but it needs to be focused on understanding people, including/especially those who are wrong, as much as facts).

I written the skit. It's political... but I am not republican or democrat. I just think it was really ridiculous to see both parties go after each other when trump was president. It was like watching immature kids argue. democrat's would say it's easy to spot a republican because they don't believe in science and the vaccine... I made it a game show and made 2 people guess republican or not and it's because it's not easy to the point where even a person that was part of the republican's party is no longer part of it. It's my jab at just how ridiculous the politics have been getting and how unprofessional and immature it has gotten. I am like Keenan sitting back watching a show take place and laughing at both parties. At the end when it said you still don't get it. It just means you cannot exactly tell what political party they're part of. Yet, the public in this heat of politics are trying to make guesses and get on the defense or attack on someone for being either republican or democrat. Plus since trump been in office the republicans have been the most confused. They don't know if they stand with trump or not and are known to be flip floppers. The skit is just fun an games poking fun but sending a message to relax and don't jump to conclusions and start fights online or in person based on assumptions.

Really clever skit! On the surface, I think it's about not jumping to conclusions about a few narrowly framed "facts" about someone. Because the "why" is actually more important. But on a deeper level, I think it also illustrates how narrow framing of issues actually promotes bad faith "both sides" arguments which are destroying our ability to see objective truth.
@Souledex2 жыл бұрын
Because their why is extremely stupid and dangerous? Because they stand for nothing and have done nothing but attack the literal concept of objective truth for 20 years?

THANK YOU. I was scrolling through the comments looking for any indication that someone understood that what makes the sketch funny is how fucking insane republicans are, not how ‘cute’ or ‘trivial’ our ‘differences’ are. There’s a completely different (and deeply stunted) moral calculus on the right; like you said they will abolish truth to make the world seem the way they want it to be.
@MHouston6022 жыл бұрын
@@Souledex Yes - that’s why I said understanding the why is more important.
@MHouston6022 жыл бұрын
@@jameseglavin4 Yep - this is also why “both sides” and the media’s efforts to present “two sides” is so dangerous. It’s like if one side is anti-lead in pipes for communities the other side is pro-lead. It’s insane. Sometimes there aren’t two equivalent sides. Sometimes there is simply right or wrong and presenting the “other side” is stacking the deck unfairly for what is inherently wrong. Ugh. I’m depressed now - the media keeps doing this.

Thank god somebody actually understood the sketch. It's blowing my mind how people in the comments think this sketch is making fun of non-Republicans literally at all.
