Celebrity Chef Martin Yan, from Yan Can Cook, celebrates Lunar New Year with Talks at Google by giving us a cooking demo.
Born in Guangzhou, China, Chef Yan always possesses a passion for cooking. While pursuing an MS in Food Science, he taught Chinese cooking for the university extension program. In 1978, he pioneered a Chinese cooking TV show: the now classic “Yan Can Cook.” Infused with his characteristic warmth, humor and vitality, the show quickly won a worldwide following. The format expanded to include distinct styles of Asian cooking, with Chef Yan traveling to culinary hot spots to introduce viewers to local food and customs. A popular guest-instructor, Yan also taught at the California Culinary Academy, Johnson & Wales University, The Chinese Cuisine Institute in Hong Kong, The Culinary Institute of America, the University of San Francisco and chef training programs across North America. In 1985, he founded the Yan Can International Cooking School. His Yan Can and SensAsian Restaurants offer inventive pan-Asian menus and give competitors a run for their woks.
Chef Yan has been nominated for many prestigious awards including the James Beard Award. He has captured the attention, admiration and hearts of millions of cooking fans by spicing his cooking artistry and teaching with a personal ingredient: wit. Via television or in person, a cooking session with Chef Yan proves invigorating as well as educational. He is dedicated to dispelling the mysteries of Asian cooking, and furthering an understanding of the cultures that created these cuisines, with spirited fun and entertainment.

@@sbfk1 Yeah.. this is one reason I quit and left SF. I'm a software engineer and I had a great gig in SF... high paying and easy lifestyle. But I really really really just COULDN'T HANDLE the absolute lack of social skills. I guess engineering school should have clued me in on that. I'm still a software dev, but I moved back to NYC so I can at least hang out with real humans after work.

Love you Martin!!!! You are the Top Male Chef of the world. Just as Julia Child was the Female Top Chef!!! I my eyes. Always watched your tv series'. Your going back to China was very educational for me as I am unable to travel, lacking funds to go to far away. Actually my ADHD nephew saw you first on Yan Can Cook on PBS. He was laughing so hard!! He never missed the show as well as I!!! I wish I could of visited you in Canada. I live on the Ohio-Michigan boarder line. Please make a new series. Bless you for all the years of your skills. Best of health!
