I am so honored to have meet my childhood favorite chef once again; from the time I was growing up in Japan, watching him on TV and now making him a couple of dishes live for my channel, something I could never imagine happening. His enthusiasm, knowledge and humbleness is what makes him the Godfather of cooking shows, way before there was the Food Network or Travel Channel.
Visit YanCanCook.com to find out more about Chef Martin Yan and pick up one of his many cookbooks or knives! As Chef Martin says...If Yan Can Cook, So Can You!
Music we use...try it for free: email.getambassador.com/wf/cli...

It surprises me how many people I speak with who don't know who Martin Yan is or ever heard of Yan Can Cook. I used to watch him on public television as a child with my brother. We didn't really care about cooking or anything but his charisma and humor kept us watching.

Two great chefs. My cousins and I were touring Vietnam and was lucky enough to met up with Martin Yan while he was filming his Vietnamese food series. He is a superstar in Vietnam. Marin is good friend to my Wong cousins in Mandeville, Louisiana, whom are legendary chefs in LA. I was fortunate to meet up with Marin Yan again twice when he was doing cooking classes here in San Antonio, TX with our local supermarket chain HEB. You can learn a lot from just watching him. They don't make them like him anymore.

Chef Yan is so humble. He's quick to compliment Chef Hiro's skills and openly asks him for the homemade recipe for teriyaki sauce. I work with a lot of great chefs and the best leaders in a kitchen are very quick to ask what younger chefs are doing. Also, as a chef, it's really hard to talk while cooking! Haha, most of my brain cells are working on what the next 5 steps are. Edit: But I also realize how humble chef Hiro is!

When we approached him after the event to explain that we (my brother and I) were raised watching him on TV. He was so accommodating that I have a photo of my brother and Chef Martin on the stage. He even made suggestions as to lighting for the best shot. He is truly a pro!
