I recognize I'm biased for this, but I did play Metroid Prime 2 first as a teenager and it's still my favorite of the three. And while the first Metroid Prime is awesome and deserves all the praise for doing the impossible and successfully translating Metroid into a first person experience, I think the sequel was when they could really flex their creative muscles and MP2 is just oozing with creativity and style, introducing amazing environments and some the coolest suits and abilities that Samus has used. So, in my opinion, it is the better game but is standing on the shoulders of MP and all the other games that came before it.

Metroid Prime 2 to MP1 is like Majoras mask to Ocarina of Time. People felt under pressure from losing energy in the dark world (similar to the time pressure in majoras mask). I think it’s class, and after using the multi missile lock on I missed it when going back to prime 1. Really hoping to play a HD remaster of 2 and 3 before playing 4

After recently re-playing through all three, prime 2 is definitely my favorite. People like to crap on the ammo system, but nobody who complains about that ever talks about how the beams also feel like the strongest in the series. The dark beam screws light world creatures into submission, and the light beam is indispensable for dark world bosses. Not to mention how the annihilator makes the Ing commit seppuku. The beams are the most balanced and individually useful in the series by a long shot. Congrats to the devs on the 20-year anniversary for this game, its my favorite.

Metroid Prime 2 is my favorite Metroid game. I played it originally on my GameCube which is the version I have the most experience with, despite playing through the trilogy on my WiiU a few times in the last 10 years. I think the difficulty was what kept me coming back. I remember starting it over twice that first 6 months after getting it for Xmas in 2004. Because of how slowly I went through it, I constantly forgot what I had done and what I still had to do. I didn’t sit down to beat it until that following Summer, but it instantly became one of my favorite games of all time and still holds a spot on my top 10.

This is probably my favorite Metroid game. The ammo system, the world-changing, the survival mechanics, the music...everything just clicks for me! And the increased challenge makes it very satisfying to complete!

When I was a kid I had a GC with Prime. I had the release of MP with the Echos demo for most of my life I had no idea the full version of Echos was real let alone MP3

Prime 2 took me 8 years to beat. I couldn't figure out how to do the Screw Attack. I kept pushing the stick forward to go forward while spinning, but the game doesn't say to do so. So I got stuck on that part in 2004, and didn't beat it until 2012 while drunk off my ass, trying to screw attack with the controller in one hand, and a beer in the other. When i got the Screw Attack to work, I literally paused the game in shock and was like "OMG IM SO STUPID". Went to fight Quadraxis and then Emperor Ing, and Dark Samus right after that and beat them with no problem. Prime 2 was amazing, but I didn't like the ammo thing. I liked the weapons in it very much, especially the Annihilator Beam, but the ammo thing made me use the normal Power Beam most of the time. I really hope this game gets the Remaster treatment that Prime 1 got. I know it's doubtful, but I'd love to play it again! Happy 20th birthday Metroid Prime 2!

Metroid Prime 2 favorite Metroid Game and Favorite Game of all time! I loved the increased difficulty, harder puzzles, and more mature gameplay. Game Cube version was quite a bit more difficult. Not only was was the wii version easier but playing it on the GameCube there was no Spring Ball. That added a whole other level of difficulty especially on that boss where you get the spider ball powerup. Great memories. I cant wait for Prime 4!!!!!

recently finished metroid prime 2 echoes not long ago and 100% it in the gc version was rly fun especially since it was a bit harder in its difficulty compared to the metroid prime trilogy wii version the boost guardian sure was a real though boss challange to beat

Underrated. More (not most, more) Nintendo games should have a better sense of pressure and difficulty throughout the experience, and it's the primary reason why I really enjoy Metroid Prime 2. Nintendo very rarely throws the hardcore audience a bone when it comes to that type of deliberate game design and it's probably one of my least favorite things about Nintendo games in general. Hope we get a solid re-release in the near future.

I received Metroid Prime 2 as birthday gift when it first came out on GameCube. Up until that point, I really had no interest in the Metroid series. I played it off and on for a while until I eventually beat it and fell in love with it. Now because of Echoes, Metroid has become my absolute favorite video game series. It holds a special place in my heart.

Prime 2 has definitely had some Renaissance the past decade and many consider it to be "Secretly the best one". I am a Prime 1 Stan since launch, but people liking Prime 2 more makes perfect sense to me. There is so much about it that I love and so many ways it improves on the first I will say that I find the difficulty conversation interesting cause I think it just comes down to familiarity. I have beaten this game on GC (never touched the Trilogy version) dozens of times and the Boost Guardian has long since lost his luster (and i find the Spider Guardian really fun in a tricky way), whereas with Dread I STILL have trouble with Kraid, Experiment Z-57, and Raven Beak every time and I've also put hundreds of hours into that. Excited to see what Prime 4 brings to the table in terms of difficulty for us Giga-brain Metroid Sickos, but I'll be chill with it either way

I’m someone that used to speedrun Prime 2, so when you said Emperor Ing and Dark Samus 3 & 4 were extremely difficult, I had to back out of my headspace of knowing the methods to handle them with minimal effort and agree that they can be tough casually. However when you said Boost and Spider Guardian were notoriously difficult, I was nodding in earnest as these two are beyond ridiculous. But Retro devs have admitted they were told to keep ramping up the difficulty for those bosses. Also you’re correct, Normal Mode in Trilogy is easier while Veteran is akin to the original Normal. Hypermode would then be similar to the original Hard Modes. But even in the Trilogy version of Echoes, Boosr and Spider Guardian were significantly toned down because of their OG difficulty. Lastly, I remember skipping a college exam the day of 11/15/04 to pick up this game. Don’t regret it to this day. 😂😂

I love Prime 2. My love for Metroid started with Super Metroid as my best friend got it for Christmas 1995 with his Snes. So I wa obsessed with Metroid as a literal child (I was 5 years old) and obviously when the n64 came out we assumed there’d be Metroid on there and of course there wasn’t but then Prime came out for GC and again we were obsessed. But Prime 1 never really gave me that fear or unease that Super Metroid did but Prime 2 definitely did and I think that’s why I sometimes put Prime 2 above Primr 1 as it reminds me more of Super Metroid. Love it.

After playing Prime 1 when I was a kid and absolutely falling in love with it, I think its fair to say that there is no other game in my life I have been more hyped for than Prime 2! I ended up loving it for all the things it did different, but as many others I do have some gripes with it, namely the front-loaded lack of visual pop and splendor. Its a dreary and oppressive world, which really works wonders in some ways, even making the really cool parts of the game shine even brighter when you eventually get to those parts, like the Sanctuary Fortress. The downside is that it just feels less interesting to go back to. There is also a distinct impact on the games replayability for that reason, as well as the overall layout and progression in the game that makes it slightly less tempting to revisit. On that note I do have a hard reccomendation for everyone that feels like they have squeezed all the appreciation they can out of this game; try the Prime 2 randomizer! I have done just two randomizer runs of Echoes, but its a transformative experience! The world map and layout has so much interesting potential for different ways of progressing and navigating through the game that just doesn't shine through with the intended way of playing it, whereas in a randomizer you really need to tame and understand the whole map in a whole other way that felt ridiculously rewarding👌

Hey RO2R! Here's my crazy prediction. Metroid Prime 4 seems like a game where time travel and warping to other galaxies could be possible. What if this game takes you through some events of Prime 1-3, possibly stopping Sylux or other enemies from interfering with your missions in those past games? And when you finish Metroid Prime 4, Prime 2 and 3 are unlocked because they are already on the game cart! BOOM!

If you’re referring to difficulty I don’t personally agree. Dread definitely has some challenge to it, but I only really find Raven Beak to like **HARD** hard. For the most part I find it to be a standard and serviceable challenge. MP2 is significantly harder imo. Especially the GameCube version.

For me Metroid Prime 2 is by far my most favorite Prime game to this day. I take it over Prime and Prime 3 any day of the year. I loved 1, as well as 1 remasterd and 3 though, but not nearly as much as Prime 2. The GC version was the greatest, still have both GC games and 3, and also Trilogy. *Prays the rumor is true* that Prime 2 will be announced at GA, insta buy, and perhaps new trailer for 4...

At first, I couldn’t stand having to make my way to light domes to avoid constant damage. However, the more I played, the better I became and later in the game, that restriction became a nonissue. Metroid Prime 2 became one of my favorite games and still is.

As someone who recently became a metroid fan when i beat dread and prime 1 remastered i went and played and beat metroid prime 2 and 3 and (and lets played my adventures) let me tell you i beat prime 2 on gamecube (had alil help from a guide when i got stuck and used one also) and my GUYY U ARE NOT LYING the difficulty of prime 2 on gc is crazy but when i beat the game i was like i never wanna play the gc version again 😂😂 the boost guardian the blarrg fish boss spider guardian quadraxis and the first boss battle of the final boss MAN lol felt like sometimes i was fighting the camera at some points also but im glad i beat all the prime games to ready myself for prime 4 beyond

God this being two decades alongside Halo 2 gives me cardiac arrest. Anyway the peak Metroid game right here. I have no idea how this is the black sheep of the Prine games. To me without question the worst one was Corruption. The motion controls were fantastic but the problem was how boxed in and linear it is and the worst sin the game never shuts up! Prime 2 is a better Prime 1 with a higher difficulty level.

The only review I had seen on this game before trying it was from Somecallmejohnny and he surprisingly viewed it as pretty mediocre, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn this game didn't only live up to the predecessor but actually surpassed it. It's not as repayable as the first one, but the first time experience was better in my opinion.

I just got turned off by the ammo system. I get the reasoning as to why that decision was made (based on interviews on individuals that worked on it) but it just wasn't it for me. Though, I would appreciate a remake just to finish the game.
