Tip for when the outside of your cake is baked/brown but the inside is still liquid-y: use aluminium foil to cover the top and keep baking it, checking periodically 👍

The thin layer of frosting you put before hand is called a "Crumb Layer" I believe, basicially you put it down so it traps all the crumbs so you dont get any in you final layer of frosting. You usually put on a crumb layer and then chill it then put on your final layer of frosting.
