Hispanic Heritage Month spans from Wednesday, Sept. 15 through Friday, Oct. 15.
For more than 30 years, our nation has set aside a month-long period to honor the impact and contributions made to American society by Hispanic community members.
However, the celebration did not always last 31 days. In fact, it started off as a commemorative week.
According to History.com, the weeklong celebration was first introduced in 1968 by California Congressman George E. Brown, who represented East Los Angeles, an area that consisted of many Hispanic and Latino community members.
The start date of Hispanic Heritage Month is important as it corresponds with Independence Day celebrations in many Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, all of which declared their independence from Spain on Sept. 15, 1821.
Mexico and Chile also declared their independence in mid-September. Hispanic Heritage Month ends on Friday, Oct. 15.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Just a clarification, we are Hispanic derived from the Latin Language, hence Latinos, and because what we have in common from the Latin language. Just like other Romance languages like Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese (Brazil) French, Romanian and other minority languages. The Spanish language stems directly from Latin language, that is why we can also recognize some the words in medicine, as is written in Latin. Latin spread with the increase of Roman political power, first throughout Italy and then throughout most of western and southern Europe and the central and western Mediterranean coastal regions of Africa. The modern Romance languages developed from the spoken Latin of various parts of the Roman Empire. During the Middle Ages and until comparatively recent times, Latin was the language most widely used in the West for scholarly and literary purposes. Until the latter part of the 20th century its use was required in the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. And since the Catholic Church was introduce to the Americas by the Spaniards and Latin was the primary Liturgical language in the Catholic Church, then Mexico, South and Central America are not only the first Religion it was Catholic!, hence the name Latinos. In North America The Protestant religion was introduce much later on the East that is why they are not Latinos, but on the North America West side, they were Latinos as the First Catholic Missions came to North America. That is why the true religion is Catholic as is in Spanish (Latin). And the Protestant religion is not, as is German So you need to be informed, before, you passed information to the new generations. Happy Hispanic and Latin month🇲🇽
