Celebrating 'The GOAT' Kelly Slater As He Sets to Retire…
“I’m done for the year, I might be done forever in Portugal." That was what Kelly Slater said on his Instagram story.
He gave a tour of the MEO Rip Curl Pro competitors area and at the end of the video, he made that statement.
And so, like we do every year, we ask ourselves? Is Kelly Slater finally retiring from professional surfing?
After all, Slater is known for two things in surfing, the most titles, and the most retirement announcements.

Kelly deserves to be a guest competitor or wildcard into any and all the events he wants to surf in. An unprecedented number of wins which will probably not be broken in a long time. Aloha ke akua!

I am a year younger than Slater and I find it amazing how he has been able to stay at the top throughout his career, undoubtedly a gifted athlete. Yet he remains a great inspiration, for those of my generation as well as for young people just starting out.

There are ex pros his age who cant even stand up anymore on a surfboard.. a great athlete all down through the years. He didnt make the mistake of relying solely on surfing to get fit. He remained in peak condition through a variety of activities and watching what he put in his mouth.

if the tour was still held in good waves, he would be still higher than 16th.... but there are a few others I would say the same about, at some point it becomes about motivation, if you lose the motivation, doesnt really how good you are...
