Hey, coming to you from Queensland, Australia 🌏🦘🌏🦘🌏🦘 I grew up watching kelly slater, he was my surf idol , him & Occy and Tom Carrol. This was in 1990, and i was always the only girl surfer usually, lol !! I loved his moves, his raw talent, and obviously his looks, hehehe 😅 , but yeah, he was my absolute favourite surfer. I even made a surfboard just like one of his, it was a 6'3 thruster, with alot of rocker in the nose, and tail, so she flew in the water 🌊💦🌊 , it was a dove tail, if i remember correctly! Wow tho. Those were rhe days. I never lived more than a 5 minute walk from the beach, too. Of course, i have had many skin cancer surgerys, over the years, mostly on my back and face . And my left hip is stuffed. Ive got alot of arthritis setting in aswell. Im nearly 47 lol, but it was worth it !! I was lucky enough to make it to pipeline, and up and down the Australian coast, around Cronulla beach, noosa heads, Bondi, etc, as a teenager and young adult. But surfing does take its toll, as does skateboarding ( i did alot of that too, still do now haha) ive had some spectacular stacks on my deck, and nearly drowned 3 times in the water ( caught in rips, & under the impact zone, eating sand lol😮). But heck, i totally wish you all the best Kelly, may your pain be minimal, and your golf outstanding!!!!! Sending Lotsa love, respect and good vibes from the land of Oz 🎉 🙏❤️🙏

My buddy was filming me at Pipe one day, when I came in all these tourists came up to me trying to get pictures and autographs from me. (I am not a Pro at all/ not known) They all asked what it was like to surf with Kelly Slater, I shrug it off cause I didn't know he was out with me. So all these people have pictures of me and think I am this un known Pro surfer that isn't phased by surfing with the GOAT. hahahah. Still one of my favorite memories.

Nothing quack about it. Upward of 90% of chronic pain problems are psychophysical, routed in our emotional experience. This is widely proven with Neuroscience now. Sarno’s the man. Read his books, you’re entire perspective will be changed. It won’t change the missing cartilage but it will change the pain. Dr. David Hanscom too. Check him out. Kelly Slater was a very talented, driven surfer, groomed to be a champ at a very young age. We came up at the same time. I was from Ocean City, MD so we paid a heavy price for every wave we caught compared to the Florida boys. Though it is VERY sharky down there. I'd travel to Cape Hatteras usually as they had just as good, if not better waves, though you had to wear rubber. Anyway, I remember surfing in some of the same contests as Kelly, but not against him in the same heats. In the 1970-early 1980's you would join both the Eastern Surfing Association & the Christian Surfing Association regardless of religious preference just to get the extra contest experience. I think we were in the same division at the ESA Champs in Hatteras in '83, or '84. Kelly had this whole mob around him, toweling him off, building him up, giving advice, etc. I tried to congratulate him on his win & he kinda just brushed me off with "I know." I'll write it off to youth, and the fact he already had a large group of adult sycophants (That maybe helped him to his world titles.) He's ten times the surfer I ever was, he did it right & had a great career. Got to do a music video with Garbage and had Shirley Manson dry humping him (ya lucky bastard) & was on Babewatch with Pamela Lee Anderson (I heard Pam was causing a problem or 2 on the set of that video.) I kind of doubt he is living with "unbearable pain." With Kelly, it's always been about Kelly first, in my experience anyway. I've had 5 knee surgeries & a wrist reconstruction (from skateboarding.) The scars are clear but I don't whine about it. This was written without hearing the interview. But I did read the comments. It seems many, many others had completely different experiences with the 'champ.' When I met him we looked up to guys like Mark Richards, Occy, Martin Potter for pushing the limit on airs, Gerry Lopez, Ken Bradshaw was the big wave beast, Laird Hamilton was still making a name for himself & living down his role in North Shore & that awful pink ZINKA colored zink oxide. I don't know any surfers that actually used that crap, Tom Carroll (the 1st surfer to be paid $1 million to ride for Quiksilver), and the ever smooth & evasive Tommy Curren who could make waves appear at will. It seems as though he matured a great deal as he grew older. If so, congrats young feller. Bottom Line ----- You had a great career Kelly, We both had our share of hotties (if you count pornstars & Playboy bunnies for me, no giant entertainment stars) BUT ............................................................ I've still got my hair !! HAHAHAHA Cheers to you Kelly, and Steve-O for overcoming your addiction

Back in the mid 80"s a couple buddies and I were in Huntington Beach surfing 2-3 footers. One of my buddies board nose dove into the wave when he was trying to get up. his board shot up at him and the fin nailed him in his forehead, slicing a big gash! a lifeguard patched him up and sent him to the hospital where he received 5 or 6 stiches!
