Tipper, my Daddy was a gardener so when he died, I took one of his market baskets to the florist with veggies yhat he always grew and had them arrange them in the basket. I also used one of his red bandanas to tie around the handle. I had the card signed from my 2 sons and my 2 grandsons. I also had an arrangement of roses because Daddy grew them.

Tipper I love the way you set you squash and other vegetables in tray in your kitchen . That’s the way some country folks do. I just can’t get over how long your garden just keeps growing. Reminds me so much of growing up in Tn. I can just see my Mom in the kitchen cutting up turnips for our supper , I haven’t had any for years, and they are so good. I would love to see all that you have canned this year. God bless you all.

I have not had a woodstove in over forty years but I remember using dried potato peelings and also orange peels in the woodstove to help keep down the buildup in the chimney. It might be an old wives' tale but I always did it. You just add it when you are putting in the wood.

Hey Tipper and Matt, Mr. Frost is a coming. I just pulled my few tomato and pepper plants yesterday. I had a handful of baby peppers no bigger than a finger nail, but I'm still going to eat em in some scrambled eggs or something. My nephew got a doe this morning, not real big, but it's still exciting. Continued prayers for everybody, I love you all.

It's sad when the seasons pass by, but I believe it's Gods' way of reminding us everything has its season and has to die. Also a time for us to slow down some and stay cozy indoors with the promise of Spring and rebirth. Hope Matt stayed safe on the roof and that you all enjoyed your first fire of the season. Here in northern NY state, we've had 3 good frosts so far, but the days have been beautiful.

We've had our first frost 4 mornings ago Ms. Tipper. I read the Farmer's Almanac and we're not to have snow again this winter it predicts. It's calling for a lot of rain and much cold is all. I sure hope it's wrong. I'd sure appreciate to see a great snowfall this January or February. It's been good and cold here of the morning lately but the mid afternoon it's been a good bit warmer, low 70's. If I had my druthers it grow cold already and stay throughout the day. I thank you for the prayers for the Augusta area. My daughter says folks been busy clearing and cleaning the city. Just like Asheville which got the worst of the hurricane, it's going to be many years for everything to ever get close to what it once was. It's been a great while that I've prayed so hard for others and in a good way it's helped me move closer to the Lord. Ain't it strange how the Lord uses such calamity to reach people in such a way. I do hope you will fare well and as always God bless you and yours.

I cook the green ones with onions, peppers of all color and add a can of drained beans, some times I use all white beans, not navy beans but any other white or I some time use mixed beans or just pintos…they are so good with fried potatoes, meatloaf and cornbread. We love beets, we add beets sometimes.

My grandmother had a continuous war with Blue Jays primarily because they attacked her cherry trees and pecan trees. As a kid with a BB gun I was given strict instructions not to shoot Bluebirds, Cardinals, or Mockingbirds , all southerners know that's a sin, but there was a cash bounty on Blue Jays. I think my ability to lessen their population impressed my grandmother more than anything else I accomplished Thanks for sharing as always.

Every year, Tipper, I get sad when I have to cut the Geraniums down for the winter. Their blooms were so lovely, and it's sad to know that all their effort to be beautiful still, is wasted. I apologize to them for that and thank them for all their efforts to add beauty to the world. But I bring them into the garage for the winter and the precious things still continue to try to bloom. Spring is hope, Summer is fruition, and Fall is the demise. Winter just beds down. If you have Tommy Toes that are still green, I'd use them in salsa with Matt's favorite hot peppers. Toss in a couple of the spoilt red tomatoes, some onion and garlic, and Matt would have a feast all how own! 😜

I am probably a little strange, but I like to explore old graveyards on vacation. Charleston and Savannah are just fun to walk because of the old houses, headstones and unique gardens. I remember one graveyard had huge lantana plants growing. I didn’t even know they could get that big. If NC weather stayed tropical, we could keep them over winter too. In Puerto Rico they were using plants for hedges that we can only get at the florist. This year I was blessed to get to visit another tropical island. There was a banana tree growing almost at our door with tiny bananas on it. I will be wondering how big they are getting and if they got big enough to eat. My family taught me to love plants and nature. I guess once a gardener always a gardener no matter where you go. Still praying for our fellow North Carolinians. I appreciate all the information you have provided. Have a good week and love to all.

Hey gang, If you needed more food storage space, you have a very good situation for a root cellar, right back K there in the goat bluff. If you started digging straight back into the hillside, by the time you got 8’ in, you’d start a roof. You could easily dig one that would gravity drain, and would only something like 4’ of roof at the front.

You had a nice harvest! I think my plants were so happy to get cooler temperatures and some rain, that they revived. But I wish they had grown like that through the summer! A couple of my friends who live just 3 to 5 miles away were talking about the 2 frosts we've had. But, I'm not seeing signs of it. My enormous nasturtium is still up and beautiful, so I'm a little confused. It is planted up on a hill in the open. I asked my husband, and he said he has not noticed that it has frosted, so 🤷‍♀️

Hello..... blessed Sunday to you! I have seen others take their green tomatoes into the house to ripen? It worked for them? Just wonder if that works for you?
