I can tell you this video is not Propaganda. Certainly, yes we do look for the positives and we are going to focus on that. Admittedly I am an outsider, but I am also one who have profiled other northern cities. Cities like Buffalo, Cleveland, Chicago, who have worse problems than Detroit and do not have the metro area revitalization that Detroit is having. Yes there are still struggles, but that is what makes Detroit so special. When you have had to overcome alot, you become stronger. God Bless the good people of Detroit, and keep up the good fight, believe it or not you are doing better than many other Northern Cities.

I live in Buffalo and like Detroit, it is coming back. We have had millions of dollars of major investment and new development. Old neighborhoods that were once rundown and seedy have been cleaned up and revitalized. Buffalo’s population increased by almost 7% between 2010 and 2020. There are a lot of successful start up technology companies in the city. So it is not all decline and doom anymore. Like Detroit, Buffalo has turned the corner and is coming back.

I have lived in Detroit downtown since 1991. I always enjoyed the city, despite its reputation and dangerous aspects, and I can certify that in the last five years the city downtown and Midtown has absolutely exploded into a wonderful place to live in. Many of the neighborhoods surrounding still need a lot of attention, and frankly, I don’t know if they will ever get it. However, the city core is absolutely fabulous. It’s such a cool city, so much to do, great architecture and people, wonderful restaurants and parks. Canada is five minutes away and a great place to visit during the day, Belle Isle since the state is taking over is absolutely beautiful, it’s the largest island city park in the United States and looks wonderful. Great museums, fabulous sports venues, tons of restaurants, there’s so much to do it’s really a great place to live in. I always find it amusing with the haters on here who absolutely refuse to acknowledge what’s going on, they generally live miles and miles away, or have never returned in recent years, yet continue to to trash it all the time. Live here, like I have for the last 25 years plus and I can certify that this town is turning around beautifully.

Despite its persistent serious problems, Detroit is still one of the best cities in the US. It is a historic architectural treasure chest that contains the world’s third largest collection of historic older skyscrapers built before 1930. It has beautiful radial thoroughfares and a very impressive waterfront. It has a world class art museum and beautiful parks. The people are very friendly and down to earth. It has all the professional sports and it is a major music and entertainment hub. I always wanted to come and visit Detroit and spend some time exploring this interesting historic city. Many of my family, relatives, and friends felt that I needed psychiatric help for listing Detroit as one of my favorite cities however I ignored their negative ignorant opinions since most of them are either scared of Detroit or just hate the city for no apparent reason. Detroit..once the great city, founded in 1701. People came from all over the world to visit it..once called..'The Paris of the U.S.' Since, 1970, Detroit has lost over forty percent of it's population. My Grandparents, owned a grocery store at W. Jefferson and Wanmaker, from the 20's through 69'. They closed it down after the 67' riots when the area became to dangerous. My mother graduated from Cass Tech in 1940. My father was a engineer at Packard back in the late 40's. My parents moved to Bloomfield Hills in 1963..and to be honest haven't looked back. I drove down Woodward, through Highland Park, the other day, and truth be told..I was pretty nervous. And yes, I have lived in Chicago for ten years and lower Manhattan for a couple. I've always knew Detroit would eventually make a comeback! My last visit was around 2005. My first was in 1977 when it was booming. I am certain that it still has a long way to go, especially in the residential areas. There are miles of abandoned and dilapidated communities and structures but thanks to the entrepreneurs and investors, there is hope! Hats off to those who stayed behind and endured through it all.
@stephenbrand56612 жыл бұрын
It was bigger than it is now in 1977 but to call it booming isn't true when it was actually losing people like crazy at the time. I like watching stuff from those Coleman Young years because there was always this hope that the decline had stopped and Detroit was gonna make a come back. By the early 90's the city pulled out all the stops to get a million people counted in the census redo but besides that nobody was kidding themselves anymore about the city coming back.

I was born and raised in Michigan, but just moved to the city about a half year ago. And I have to say...it is really a culture that is heartwarming and wonderful. What's great about the city is that all the assholes stay in the suburbs. There is no reason to fear the city as long as you stay out of the worst parts. But even so...I do not feel unsafe at all in any part of the city. When I drive down West Buchanan street, for instance, I see nothing but potential for growth. I live in West Village and I adore my neighborhood. I love all the little things...going down to the corner market, riding my bike downtown, enjoying the gritty nooks and crannies. If you have no appreciation for beauty or uniqueness, you will hate the city. But if that's the case, PLEASE stay in the suburbs so that Detroit city continues to have a nice culture full of wonderful people of all backgrounds.

Yea, it is interesting comparing those 2 cities SF & Detroit. While many would rate SF above Detroit, and might be now, but they are moving in opposite directions. SF seems to be doing down, and Detroit seems to be on their way back up.

It looks nice from downtown being redeveloped, but that's just an area of roughly 7 square miles in a city of over 140 square miles. There are still plenty of inner city residential neighborhoods that are in rough shape and won't be revitalized for decades.

OMG I was born in Detroit Michigan, eastside back in the day, I remember as a kid Mr. Softy ice cream, Mr. Pamoti corner store, Hudsons, omg. The popcorn and peanut man who sold food in front of Hudson. Then My mom got the California fever and I grew up in Los Angeles California. Leaving Detroit, once a year my mom would visit with me. I remember people there was soooo nice to me. My heart is Detroit, but I always fall into a category from my family in Detroit as a CALI-GIRL LOL . much love to Detroit and my snowy blizzard days I remember. Now its all palm trees. Thank you so much for showing some of the nicer areas of Detroit. All these videos, all they want to show, is the desolate, burned-out, screwed up parts. But Detroit is just like any other big city. It's got bad parts, and it's got beautiful parts. And it seems that all anyone ever wants to focus on is the bad parts. For once we have a video that shows the nice side of Detroit. Detroit is a beautiful city. You just need to know where to look. And this video shows a few of those more attractive parts. I mean, you have no idea. If all you look at are those nasty videos that show all those desolate scenes with burned-out houses... Try and Google "Indian village"... look at the video on Indian village and tell me about Detroit? Look at Palmer Park or Sherwood Forest. There is a lot of beauty to be found in Detroit. The images in this video... The Renaissance Center have you ever visited there? Try it and then see its image of wealth and Perfection. It is spotless! Yes it's a confusing maze, it's a city unto itself, it has its own ZIP code like they said, but it is amazing! Don't kill Detroit until you've seen what it really has to offer. This is a world-class City with every Museum, Hotel, Zoo, every attraction that any large city would have... we've got it, and then we've got some extra shit too! We have got it all here! Fast fact... Belle Isle, the largest island park in the nation... Yeah .... bigger than Central Park in New York people... let's hear it, bigger than Central Park! And it is beautiful. It is beautiful too. It is one Island out in the middle of the water that is just completely gorgeous. And there's everything.... Forest and streams, and it's really something to see and all we have to do is drive over a bridge to get to it. It is otherwise completely available to us as Detroiters! So, yes, there are neighborhoods that are burned-out, screwed up ... but if you can't see past that, if you can't see the city for what it really has to offer... everything that is.... we are on those lighted neighborhoods then you're just ....being blind, because there is a gorgeous shining City beyond that which is on the surface. There is a really pretty, beautiful, workable, livable city, beyond those stupid nasty videos that they show you. We live here, and we love it, and it is amazing, and there's so much more Than what those bad videos show you. There's so much more... the only way you could know would be to come here and see for yourself.

I love when people talk about a city and all they have to say is ugly and if its getting better they call it gentrification! Do something to be part of the change... Educate yourself and be an entrepreneur or get a career in whatever is thriving in the area! Bitching doesn’t fix anything actions do!
@michaelclayton31145 жыл бұрын
People need to be careful in saying what people caused this and that to go bad . And because of them - the city failed . I will tell anyone , it is a strange world and blessings in disguise . I am no angel . I was born and raised there . I used to sit in the middle of the most damaged vacant homes you could think imaginable . I used to go in them and read my comic books .Some of them looked so bad - I had to go in , in the daytime , so I would know where to run at night .I used them to separate my self from the larger bully kids . If they ever followed me in there - I was going to make sure They were not coming out . I had my pre - selections - from bowling allies to residential houses . I felt safe in them - spent a lot of time in them .From the vacant yards , broken glass with protruding nails and splinters and busted parts - never got so much as a scratch . Never owned boots. Only sneakers . I'm definitely no angel .Spent a lot of time laying on the concrete bleeding . I know what the real Detroit is . I have tasted it , felt it , breathed the very fibers . From the sharp edges of the burnt wood , to the beautiful women I was there with .The city made me .It made me a tough person .I have retired from two different govt jobs with over 20 years in each .One of those was the Marine Corps . I retired from them in 96 .Retired from Arizona position in 2017 . Detroit will do things . It will make person tough or they will go down in flames .I don't believe in going down in flames .I have never burned one of my vacant houses with flames - the only flames I ever knew was on the logo of the Detroit Red Wings . Out in Arizona , the back bone of there economy is real estate . Someone falls behind on payments out here and banks ready to throw e'm in the streets . Over- inflated housing costs will be the death of things out here . Already people can't afford housing in California , Arizona and other big areas . It will only get worse . Detroit will be least of concerns . Others will be moving in that direction , they just don't know it yet .

I knew the gentrification was coming when I saw Starbucks on the corner of Mack and Woodward. I told my kids friends to get ready for it by getting all the training and education they could because soon they wouldn't be able to to buy a damn thing down town. And it's sloooowly creeping into the neighborhoods. They can have it. I'm retiring and moving to Nevada. I can't take the cold anymore.
